Definitely a hole in the wall so I was hopeful of getting some authentic style tacos. Not the cleanest and most organized place, because it looked partially rented or renovating so I wasn't sure. It was interesting to find the bathroom and once I did there was a pungent cigarette smell that threw me off. Service was quick, we got the 5 taco combo which priced at ($2.50) and taco, or else if you ordered them a La carte they were $5.50?? Not sure why but that's why we got the combo bc it made more sense. We got 4 mini size tacos with corn tortilla, and the 5th one came in a large size flour tortilla which was confusing. Flavor was good but needed more seasoning on the meat. But they had a nice salsa bar which is always a plus. We may come back and try something else.

We have passed this little gem so many times and have said "we need to try Taco Kitchen"! Well today was the day and we were not disappointed! This is authentic Mexican food! I had the jumbo burrito and it was jumbo. Filled with delicious steak...not like the strips of steak like most Mexican restaurants use but big slices of tender steak, peppers & onions (that weren't cooked to death, but still had some crunch), pico, refried beans, lettuce and sour cream. It was served with the BEST charro beans I have ever eaten and rice. All of this for only $11.50 and I could not eat it all! My husband ordered the Mexican-Sampler which included 1 beef enchilada, 1 crunchy taco, 2 flautas, 1 soft taco (which was huge), refried beans, rice, guacamole lettuce and sour cream. Tons of food.... He could not finish all of his either. Don't be fooled by the lack of cars our front, customers were coming and going the entire time we were eating lunch. If you haven't tried this place, you are missing out!

The best part of the tacos was the authentic corn tortillas which had a nice nutty, sweet corn flavor. The wife and I each ordered 2 tacos, one grilled and one fried. The fried taco was very large and the better of the two. The plate came with a side of flavored red rice with cheese on top which we both enjoyed. There was a salsa sauce bar with a nice variety of options. Everything was good, not nothing stood out as amazing.

I originally planned to eat lunch tacos here but when I saw they had breakfast burritos, I had to try them. I went with the potatoes ala mex. They reminded me of the meximelts Taco Bell used to sell years ago but with potatoes. Sooooo good. I ate two and they were pretty big- very full and almost couldn't finish last few bites- but I powered through. The tortillas the tacos were made with were amazing too I would eat them solo with some honey. We also go the cheese sauce for my youngest. I loved the sauce itself but my only gripe would be about the chips. They were thicker than I prefer my chips and were bordering on stale. The inside isn't anything fancy. It reminded me of some taquerias I used to go to on Fort Worth's North Side, which made me very nostalgic. The employee I gave my order to was very nice and the wait was fine for a small establishment. Will definitely be back to try lunch tacos.

My husband, 3 Year old and I stopped in yesterday between lunch and dinner. There were a couple tables taken and they seemed to be busy hopefully with takeout. When you walk in you order at a counter, pay and then they go back and cook it and bring it out. Everything is in take out containers and let's talk about the salsa bar! Yummmmm! I love when places do this! We ended up ordering chips (not included) and rice for our son. And my husband got the Acapulco Burrito: worlds famous rice, beans, lettuce, guacamole, sour cream, shrimp, chicken and steak fajita, topped with a green sauce and usually white cheese sauce but it wasn't ready. And I for once wanted a little bit of the norm and ordered their classic burrito with ground beef, refried beans, rice, lettuce, pico, sour cream, and cheese inside served with chips. I ordered mine no sour cream but added guacamole. And we grabbed a ton of salsas, pickled jalapeños, and omg their mango pico was insane! So fresh and my son also ate a ton! I love supporting local and it doesn't get better than this! They make their own tortillas, salsas, etc. I really look forward to trying their breakfast. Go support!

You order at the counter then pick up in the dining area. There are plexiglass barriers.

While we have our share of Mexican restaurants, Taco Kitchen brings street tacos, burritos and fajitas to West Ashley. My husband and I tried it after in-person absentee voting at Seacoast Church recently. Tacos are my go-to at Mexican restaurants, and these fish tacos didn't disappoint. The fish tacos are $4 each and the size of a small burrito. The tortillas are homemade, hot, and delicious, and the fish is seasoned well. My husband had the carne asada plate, which he said was tender. He tried the steak street tacos on another occasion and says this is his favorite spot for authentic Mexican. Our bill was under $30, and you get a lot for your money. I returned a few weeks later to try the jumbo burrito with shrimp, which lived up to its "jumbo" name, especially for the low price of $10.50. The salsa bar has about ten different kinds of salsa ranging from mild to very spicy. I appreciated the disposable gloves at the salsa bar, as well as the hand sanitizer and plexiglass coverings while we deal with COVID. Taco Kitchen is more of a takeout spot and doesn't have a bar- and we're fine with that since we're not eating inside restaurants right now anyway. The Savannah Hwy. location is very convenient to 526 with a red light to help you turn left leaving the parking lot.

Delicious, authentic, adorable, casual Mexican. Everything homemade, including salsa from salsa bar. Had breakfast burritos and can't wait to come back for lunch or dinner to try additional menu items. Friendly, fast service!

I was in the area and wanted to grab something quick to eat. Found this spot on Yelp and saw that it was well reviewed. I swung by and ordered the street tacos, 2 steak and 2 fish tacos to go. It didn't take long for my order to come out and I was surprised to see it came with a small side of pinto beans. The food was delicious. I will be stopping by here again the next time I'm in town and I will eat in and try some more items from the menu. Highly recommend!

    Assorted yummy looking sauces.

This is a hidden gem, located just before the on-ramp for the 526 on 17/Savannah Highway heading towards Charleston. There's a tiny dining space and I imagine much of the business is take out. The food is fresh, fast, and utterly delicious. There's an array of sauces (I tried them all!) to add to your dish; such lovely flavors. If you enjoy authentic food, make a point to visit Taco Kitchen.

Delicious food! So glad to finally be able to try this spot out. I ordered the lunch special and it was a fajita bowl, tortillas, and a drink. Seasoning was great and I was very pleased with the meal. It's easy to miss the location, and it is on the right if you're on 17 heading towards downtown right before 526. A great local business with delicious food!

Both made our day! I will say: Duncan makes the best Berry Coladas!! That drink is SO GOOD! it tastes like a coconut berry smoothie (we got the alcoholic version with rum, but there's a nonalcoholic version as well). Once our table was ready, we were moved to a booth. The overall decor is coastal and cute, with basket-lighting, wooden booths, and multiple ways to order! You can order via your server, QR code, or a paper ballot. We started off with the large sized chips & guac. I was skeptical at first because the guacamole doesn't have tomato, but it was VERY good! We devoured it! For tacos: we got: The baja fish taco: one of my favorites--the fish is perfectly crispy The crispy duck taco: good! Not super crispy, but definitely tasty The cauliflower taco: a surprise hit! I found the flavors very refreshing and well seasoned! The tuna taco on a bed of lettuce: this one can get messy. I ordered with my stomach instead of reading the fine print that it doesn't come in a traditional taco tortilla. The overall taco is good and the tuna has excellent flavor. The taco does come loaded with a sauce that tends to spill--so eat over the tray! My sister got the carne asada taco, and she felt that it could have been better. She felt the carne asada itself was bland and relied on the sauce for flavor. Because this is a chain, I will continue you to go to them because their food is reliably good. However, on busy days, expect a 30 minute+ wait to be seated here. The guacamole, the drinks, and the tacos are overall very good! I found that ordering 5 tacos was more than enough to fill me. My sister and I split our bill of berry coladas, large chips & guac, and tacos (5 per person) came out to $33.53 per person (with tax and tip).

We went back for our missing tacos, and they gave us an extra along with some chips for free. Overall, the food 10/10, but unfortunately the service could not live up to the same standard.

Last night I placed a large order: burrito de birria, two tamales, pozole, large bag of chips , guacamole, drinks . After driving 30 minutes back to my hotel, I opened the bag to find the tamales were completely missing. Then I tried the pozole, and it was so salty it was absolutely inedible. On top of that, they didn't include a single condiment--just a bland, overly salty soup. I tried calling for 30 minutes straight--no answer. Left a voicemail--no call back. Not that night, not the next morning. Completely ignored. The next day, I went in person to give them a chance to make it right. I had my order number and explained everything clearly. Instead of even attempting to help, they refused to do anything without a physical receipt. No effort to look up the order, no accountability, no customer care. Just excuses. Expecting someone to drive 30 minutes back with uneaten food just to prove a mistake is ridiculous. I ended up having to go to Wendy's just to eat dinner after spending money here--that alone says everything. Mistakes happen, but the way a business handles them is what matters. This place clearly doesn't care once they have your money. This wasn't my first issue here, but it will definitely be my last.

It's not my favorite type of Mexican restaurant, as it's a little more upscale than I *personally* prefer, but if upscale Mexican is your vibe, then this'll be the perfect restaurant for you! They had an alright selection of beers, to include a couple of IPAs, but my friends and I didn't really enjoy their cocktails. They were expensive, but lacking in much flavor or zest. Besides looking cool, the taste didn't really match the aesthetic. Furthermore, the food was solid, but not that much better than your basic Mexican restaurant. As for the service, our waiter was nice enough, but he always seemed to be in a hurry, and was walking away while we were still trying to give our order. All-in-all, I'm probably making Matador sound worse than it was, but it was merely a slightly above-average Mexican experience, not a transcendental dining experience that I'll never forget. I'll give it 3/5 stars, and would recommend it based on your personal preference.
