Their advertised prices are about 25% cheaper until you get into the store to buy it and find out that they have a different price at the restaurant and they won't honor what they have on their website. This place has great Mexican food. Tacos. Burritos. Tortas. Menudo. Etc. The tacos I've got here have always been delicious. The interior is nicely equipped with a good amount of tables and chairs. However the past couple times I've been in have always been busy so the dining area can get busy. One neat thing - there's a heavenly wall mural depicting two Lucador figters in the style of Micheangelo's The Creation of Adam. The churros at the Costco food court has got NOTHING on this place. Holy mother, these guys know what they are doing. Super hip place in not so hip locations (need to pop one up around Minneapolis) with FANTASTIC Mexican food. The machete.... wow. THE MACHETE TACO OMG!!! I love food that is larger than my face and this is no exception. I would recommend getting the machete taco half and half so you can try two types of meats. Make sure to also go to the salsa bar and get some of the green sauce for sure. It has onion and peppers in it which make it delicious! Our school holiday parties always included tamales, and it kills me to now live in the land of the bland food. But Taco Libre being 5 miles from our apartment has been the BEST find in our quest to find new places to eat. I've ordered the bowl with a different meat every time we've gone and have never been disappointed. Bf has always ordered the machete, again, always with a new combo of meat to try. Tamales are good. The guac is chunky and fresh. Bf is always ready to steal the entire jug of the mango salsa in the salsa bar. YASSSS!! This is the place for a cheap eat. The cashier was super helpful in letting us know what they specialize in. We ended up getting the machete - enough for two people! Make sure to get the pork if you can eat pork. We also opted in on some tacos like we originally planned. The meats for the machete was so good alone but I love flavor and spice so the best part was the free salsa bar. I think we tried all of them and it really does add to the food. I recently moved to the area and started eating here. Incredible. Since i am quarantined at home and eating out a lot i have been here almost every day. I get a half chicken half steak burrito bowl with extra tortillas to wrap my own mini burritos. The meat is delicious, the serving is plenty and for 8.99 for basically two meals you cant go wrong. I have also tried most of the various tacos and they are all delicious. The girls working there never get my order wrong and are always super sweet! A friend recommended this place and now I'm here for the second day in a row. I tried the pozole and it was very good! Great home made taste for sure, and they make it fresh everyday. They offered me a free refill on my agua fresca ( which is usually unheard of in any Mexican restaurant) because they thought they were taking too long in getting my order ready. Staff is very friendly and attentive. Everything is fresh and delicious. The only downside is that it can get pricey really quickly if you want to try a few different things. I still can't bring myself to justify buying the street tacos which cost $2.75 a piece and come in a 6" tortilla. You can get a lot more food for your back making a different selection. read more

I've been recommending this place to a lot of my friends and family. It's probably of my favorite taco joints in the Twin Cities. They're well known for the Machete, a huge taco/open face burrito that is enough to feed two people. They also have a good list of delicious meats to choose from. The Al pastor, Crispy Tripe, and Beef Rose Meat are probably my top choices. It can be quite a wait when it's busy but it's totally worth it. I also like how it's open until midnight too. read more

THIS time, we got Machete to split (AMAZING, and I don't even like hard corn shell tacos usually), an ear of Mexican Street Corn (surprisingly good for this time of year), and a tamale (a bit on the average side, but my husband liked it and I hate tamales in general). This place is a disappointment. Even due to COVID-19 the lady at the register didn't even want to give me and my friends salsa. We ordered $60 worth of tacos and the salsa wasn't even given. I went to the car put the food down expecting the salsa in the bags and turns out they did not. I walked back in asked for salsa and the lady was hesitate to give me any. She goes to the back and grabs me small containers of salsa. In my head I was thinking 4 small containers of salsa for 20 tacos? I asked for more and she was hesitating to give me more. Stopped in for the first time. Delicious tacos. Fun environment, good music, soccer on the TV. Very light, clean, and open. But those tacos are terrific. I had the tripe and the pastor. I used the smoky red sauce on the tripa. Terrific complex sauce, great enhancer of the fried tripe. The pastor could have stand alone with no sauce but I added the salsa verde. I could just have used a spoon on either salsa are very good. The pastor was everything it should be: thin sliced, bright red, a little charred in places. The addition of the pineapple sealed the deal. The tortillas are also spot on and sprinkled with just enough onion and cilantro. 3 napkin lunch. Despite the food being of higher quality, this is one of the poorest organized restaurants I have set foot it, not even exaggerating (probably being nice here). First, there are too few tables, which should be obvious to the owners, and the line is always a mess. Secondly, each time I've been in here, a table is consumed by people eating Subway - they need to regulate that, as it's annoying customers. The tables and floors are soiled into oblivion, never cleaned and I've had to sit in salsa. Only once have I seen a person cleaning tables, and ironically if you're sitting at a dirty table, they AVOID coming over to clean it, which is sadly hilarious.
