    Shrimp Tacos

We have enjoyed both dine-in and take away at Taco Mexicali. Their food is very good. Our favorite is the Texas Burrito, which contains steak, shrimp, chicken, and rice. It comes with a salad of lettuce, tomato, sour cream, and guacamole. Yummy!! We've also had tacos, including the chicken taco and the shrimp tacos. Very good too. Our guest really liked the steak taco salad she got at lunch. It was brimming with tender cuts of steak--so much so she had to take some home. Each table also receives chips and salsa while reviewing the menu. The dining room is both relaxed and festive. They have a bar area if you want to see a TV. Prices are fair, and the staff is friendly. Taco Mexicali is located in a shopping strip near Lightfoot that has free parking. They can get very busy in the evening, so bring your patience or order take away.

Don't sleep on the salsa , It's good!

Really good place for tacos and Texmex. Recently moved here from Texas, I needed some good Texmex food. This hit the spot. Good tacos, burritos and service. Don't sleep on the salsa, it's that good!

While visiting Williamsburg, I didn't think I would find any Mexican food worth a darn. I was quite wrong, this place is pretty darn good. It doesn't quite have the spice that we have in California but it's pretty dang tasty. I'm sure they have to tone it back a little for the locals. All and all I would definitely come back. You should try it too!

Y'all this is our now favorite Mexican restaurant in Williamsburg! Williamsburg has a plethora of Mexican restaurants and since moving here we have tried at least 7 and this one is our favorite! Arriving at prime time on a Saturday night we had to wait about 15 minutes for a table but seeing the place full sent us a good sign that this was a popular spot and we could see lots of delicious food coming from the kitchen. Once seated our waiter was great and got us drink and yummy chips and salads and the famous white sauce. Their chips were yummy and some of the best white sauce I have had. Our food was quick to come from the kitchen and it was all delicious. My husband had a burrito and it was huge and filled to capacity. My chimichanga was nicely prepared and tasted good. My husband also got a Bahama mama and it was nice and strong. Can't wait to go back for another delicious Mexican meal!

7/12/21: As always, greeted quickly and warmly by the staff. I am not certain, but I think this may be an all male staff... kitchen included! Chips and salsa were being scooped as we walked Into the dining room and delivered properly to our table just as we sat down. I don't know why I even bothered looking at the menu, because I ordered the same thing I had just four days ago: The Carnitas! My husband opted for a combo of two enchiladas one beef; one cheese) with rice (no beans). My carnitas was the dinner portion this time (it was about 4:30). We don't normally eat dinner this early but we skipped lunch and were starving! These Carnitas are not only my favorite thing at Taco Mexicali, but among the stop five best things I've EVER EATEN. EVER. The staff seems happy to be at work and are very friendly with the patrons. It seemed like several tables were occupied by regulars, always a good sign! The chef could be heard singing while he cooked (and we were not in the tables close to the kitchen)... we LOVE hearing a happy kitchen! The wait staff, our server in particular, was kind enough to let me try my broken Spanish while ordering and asking for drink refills. ¡Muchos gracias... las comidas estuvo fantastico!! ¡Te veo pronto!

Pretty solid food. Nothing was "knock your socks off"- great, but nothing was bad, either. My San Jose burrito was a little on the dry side, but I dumped some of their salsa on it and it was pretty decent. My wife's burrito was likewise pretty good, but it wasn't quite as described in the menu. The margaritas were actually very tasty, and probably the best thing we had. Everyone was very friendly and pleasant. In the end, it's the type of place where I wouldn't object to returning, but I also wouldn't set out to visit on purpose again.

I'm visiting my grandma in Williamsburg, and she wanted to go out for lunch. This is her favorite restaurant. I totally understand why after today. The staff knew her when we came in and let us sit right near the front door so it was easy for us to get in-and-out. They knew her order so when she didn't remember what it was they were able to help us. She had these delicious chili rellanos. I ordered the tierra y mar dish which was absolutely fantastic! It was shrimp and scallops with a ton of different vegetables over rice with cheese sauce. The service was phenomenal. The staff checked on us multiple times, made sure our beverages were full the entire time, and were available for anything we needed. I'm super impressed and so glad I was able to try this place today!

A giant jalapeño margarita with fresh fruit garnish! Ty

So, let's find out how the visit went. There weren't a lot of people inside and there was only one waitress attending to tables. They have a bar area, tables and booths. We decided to eat near the entrance to their supermarket. It took a while for us to roam through the menu, but decided on what we wanted a few minutes after getting seates. I chose a 1/2 chicken with two sides (fried yucca and french fries). The Peruvian chicken was pretty good and flavorful. Both the fried yucca and fries could've been seasoned more, but were plentiful. I actually saved half of my meal for takeout and tasted well for dinner. Unfortunately, the bad part of our visit was the decor. The restaurant is located in a strip mall which has seen better days. Seats at the booth are torn up.....literally. The tables are outdated. The floor is in pretty bad shape, especially near the bar area. And in the bathroom, the paper towel dispenser was not connected to the wall and instead, laying on the floor. It's not comfortable washing your hands and then turning it sideways where you can get paper. I really don't mean to sound mean,, but the decor alone would turn folks away. It needs a big renovation all around. Hopefully, down the road, they can upgrade or they may become a thing of the past :(

The one standout was their take on a Crunchwrap supreme (their take from Taco Bell and it was good! The chalupas were burnt and hardly had any meat in both of them The chicken was good but when I mentioned that it was overly fried the man behind the counter did not care at all and just looked at me. I just ate the little bit of meat out of it, couldn't even eat the shell! Not worth $8 for one! The other taco was a chicken mole and it wasn't bad but for most street tacos they give you two tortillas to hold it all together. Only one and it all fell apart. Will not be returning!

We were visiting from DC, which is objectively a more expensive area, and yet the price per taco was higher than individual tacos at our favorite taco chain in DC, especially for the shrimp and, especially curiously, the cauliflower. And then the portions of shrimp and cauliflower in those tacos was pretty disappointing. Also, very fried. Nachos and quesadillas seemed like a better value than tacos so, while my husband got the aforementioned tacos, I got the nachos without any added protein. Much better value - huge portion at a small price. Some odd choices though. There was an appropriate amount of cheese (beer cheese, which seemed appropriate given its location inside a beer hall) but a really small amount of other toppings (beans, corn, pico I think?) relative to the huge amount of raw jalapeño slices. The dish relies really heavily on jalapeño for flavor and freshness, and I like jalapeño, but these woud be more appropriately described as "jalapeño and cheese on chips" than nachos, IMO. If you love raw jalapeño you'll be in heaven but for those who are accustomed to jalapeños being an accent, this is A LOT. It was like the primary ingredient after chips, even above cheese. All in all, it's fine if you're in the area and want tacos or need food with your beer but is it somewhere I would go out of my way to visit? Probably not.
