I have driven past this place countless times and never once stopped by. I really thought "you can't judge a book by its cover" but still never tried it out. I kept reading through reviews and finally gave it a go. Why on earth have I never been??? I think it's so unique that this place has been here since the 80s, giving it that dated look. It's a mom and pop shop owned by a very awesome family. We had the pleasure of seeing three generations on this visit: la abuela, the daughter and her kids. I thought that was so sweet!! You can tell they all very much care about their customers and their food. We had the best service. We got a tostada with pork, beef hard shell tacos, rice and beans, the Cuban sandwich and a piece of fried steak with salad, plantains and rice and beans. I can't emphasize enough that everything was 10/10. The steak did take longer than everything else to come out but it was well worth it. I went back for two more hard shell tacos and the owner couldn't believe it. They were so good!!! And their sauce? Just try it. FIRE!! I'm breastfeeding okay!!!? Lol the Cuban sandwich was the best I've ever had. Melt in your mouth and seasoned so well. This will be our go to spot for take out when headed to the beach for sunset. Stopped here at the last minute for lunch. It's an order at the counter and have a seat type of place. Then they bring your order out to you. Lots of specials. Serving size is on the large side. Food is very tasty. It's not a fancy place. Food comes out in styrofoam containers. Food is good. Service is fast. It seems like they do a good lunch business so seating is limited. This was my first time at Taco Mix so I tried a few things on the menu. I ordered a couple of chicken tacos, pork tamales and a small cup of chili. The chicken was a little dry but still good, the chili was tasty. I like beans in my chili and there were none in theirs. Some places just don't put beans in -- and that's ok. I think my favorite was the pork tamales. There are two per order and it comes with a little salad, pico de gallo, Spanish rice and refried beans with melted cheese on top. They offered homemade hot sauce which was tasty on the tamales and tacos too. I didn't finish everything since it was actually a lot of food for lunch, but it was nice to try a few items on their menu. I'm local here and Taco Mix is literally 5 minutes away, so I'm sure I'll give them another try in the future. read more

Meh. Nothing spectacular. Not really authentic in any way unless you're looking for tex-mex. The al pastor was burned. The sope was okay but had very little meat. Bathroom was disgusting. A little expensive for what you get. And the chips with the chips and salsa were almost all broken. Here's a pic. Salsa was nice and fresh but could have had more whole chips for dipping. I'm always hesitant to drop a 20% gratuity for counter service and all they do is bring your food out on a tray. I would not return to this place when in the area again. read more

Wow!!!!! I can honestly say this was the best Mexican take out food I have ever had in my life. I had the chicken salad & they loaded on the chicken which was amazing. The chicken itself was so moist, tender and flavorful. It tasted like it had some lime juice mixed with it- AMAZING. We also got the small order of guacamole and chips- they give you soooo much guacamole for the price! Really good. We also got 3 beef text mex style hard shell tacos and a beef burrito. They were super good too. *** The thing that made it even better? the mild salsa we got on the side (wish we got the hot too). It wasn't spicy at all but had great flavor- maybe tomatoes in it too? either way we loved it. we ordered ahead and picked it up in the drive through window especially because the coronavirus! Delicious Mexican/Cuban food! The owner and her son do a wonderful job and are some of the hardest working people I know. You get A LOT of food for the price. They make their own hot sauces, hot and mild. I mix them together because the hot is VERY hot. When I get a burrito there, it's literally lunch and dinner for me because of the size. They have a cute convenient store with cigars , beer, wine and few small grocery items. They also have a drive through! So don't be afraid during covid, you can still enjoy these great place and safely! Can't say enough about this food and the people that own it! If I could give 10 stars I would!!!!!!!! read more

I wanted to love this place so much. It's just down the street from our condo. We ordered the guac & chips, 3 street style tacos: Al Pastor, carnitas, and chicken. Don't bother with chicken (I should have known that.... Mexican tacos are best made with pork or steak). The Al Pastor were good, not excellent. The carnitas tasted weird. But not traumatizing. Most of the chips were crunchy.... some stale ones worked themselves into the batch..... is the guac freshly made? Mmmhhhh.... I am not sure. We LOVE Taco Mix!!! We have come down from Minnesota for 19 years and just started stopping here 3 years ago! Why, you ask? Well it was either closed when driving by OR the appearance didn't catch our eye! But... after reading yelp reviews we stopped! I have big eaters in my family and boy did they eat! We usually take it to go and eat by our resort pool. I Love breakfast burritos and they serve them all day! Great quality food, big portions, awesome and sweet workers and reasonable!! As good as it gets for me when it comes to real tacos! I have never eaten anything besides the tacos and cheese dip because it is so good I can't fathom the thought of skipping the tacos if I go here. The location is obscure if you are just driving by. Definitely not a place that catches your eye and makes you say "wow that place looks like one I want to try." But if you decide to give it a chance I think you will be happy with the decision. I work less than 5 minutes away, so once I discovered this gem I can't stop recommending it when I hear someone say that they are in the mood for Mexican food. For Bonita Beach visitors it is very convenient- I think probably a mile away from the beach. The tacos are super cheap, soft drinks are a bit pricey- but I am usually getting it to go so I skip the drink anyways. The soft tacos are my favorite. I always get two beef, one chicken. Tip- if you want the want cheese dip then you will be disappointed. It is a cheesey rotel style cheese dip. Simple menu, small restaurant but delicious fresh food! read more

At first she gave us excellent service describing what the plate was gonna look like. I got the chicken taquitos that comes with the salad on top and guacamole and a little bit of sour cream and pico Gallo. I tried enjoying the first taquito with the sides but there was some weird taste on the chicken. My bf got the steakchimichanga, which was really good and he tried my chicken taquito and he had to even spit it out. There was some weird smell on the chicken and the taste was just so dry and horrible. It's almost like they use old oil to fry the taquitos. And I told the lady about it and she said "oh that's just the taste of the tacos and that's why there is other restaurants". We ended up throwing the food away at least we only lost about $35 dollars. Definitely not coming back read more

I was overcharged. When I tried to get an explanation on the price the woman at the drive thru was pretty rude. in the end it was $20 for a chimichanga and a cuban sandwich. The Chimichanga had a delicious doughnut-like shell, but the filling was 80% rice. The Cuban was pretty good but didn't have a lot of meat. read more
