Taco Ocho is a great option in the Canyon Creek area if you want to escape the Corona bomb atmosphere of Fuzzy's but don't feel like driving to a Torchy's. The food is great and there's a lot of variety so you can mix and match. I got a Pick two plate and my husband got a 2 taco plate and we both left stuffed. All the tostadas are vegetarian and gluten-free, and the re-fried beans are vegetarian black bean which is my favorite. Service was also very good. I had seen Taco Ocho many times and never stopped by. I work 5 minutes away with many other eateries around. I visited Yelp first and decided to give it a go. Very clean and cozy spot, no complaints there. I visited the website and made what I believed would be my choices: Smoked Chicken Elote and Latin Love tacos and an Azteca tostada. Although I did not see a la carte for the tostadas, I assumed I could get one. Just happens I was wrong. The young lady that took my order informed me there was no way to get one tostada, and didn't seem too familiar with the menu as she asked me three times which tacos I wanted as she glanced up at the menu herself to place the order. I will give her the benefit of the doubt, assuming she is a new employee. I opted for the 2 Taco Plate since I couldn't get a Tostada a la carte. Tacos were very good and seasoned nicely, however the refried black beans and rice were very bland and unimpressive. Also unimpressive were the two mini corn chips that were stuck in the beans. I believe I will stick with a la carte in the future and save my $.95. I have to give a 3 star rating due to no a la carte offering for tostadas and the uninspired beans and rice. Hopefully the owner(s) will read this review and consider offering tostadas a la carte in the near future as there is no comments or contact section on their webpage. Maybe $2.50 each? read more

Lots of meat in the tacos, however they seem to be a little bland. They say you dont need sauce cause they are all seasoned, but they need something. Portions are good. Just something missing to the food. Torchys and Rusty Taco are similar in set up, but deliver in taste. Ocho, not so much. read more

I don't get it. Everything was bland. The tiny litte cup of sauce (think maybe 2 tbsp)and a handful of chips counted as chips and salsa? You have to know to ask for the green sauce. My friend's tostada had COLD grilled yellow squash (was supposed to be zucchini) - as tho it came from the refridgerator cold. My tostada was missing the pico de gallo and any sense of flavor. The fish taco was nice with the jicama slaw. One out of four things we tried is not very good odds. Someone mentioned portions - uhmmm the tostada is about 3 inches across - not what I would call generous. Won't be going back. read more

Got the steak tacos with rice and beans. Food was ok. Ingredients were fresh and presented nicely, but nothing to write home about. I would probably only go back to get their chips and queso. The food wasn't exceptional but it was quite good. The taco--IMHO, the litmus test for all Mexican eateries--was fine. Tried the pulled pork taco. The beef torta was the one that was somewhat disappointing; certainly no comparison to places like Frontera by Bayless ... but that may not be the right comparison and I also think my expectations were high after seeing other Yelpers' reviews. My boo and I were hungry Friday night and couldn't decide where to get take out from. We were both in the mood for mexican and we wanted take out as time was of the essence. Yelp to the rescue. This place was 5 minutes away and let me tell you the food was awesome. We ended up getting the fish and chicken tacos off of the recommendation of another yelp review as well as the ground beef with the two sides. I devoured the chicken taco which was supposed to be touted as spicy hot but it could use some more heat. The fish taco was oh so good. My girl and I both enjoyed our dinners and for the time it took to get there and back and enjoy dinner, priceless. Wet will definitely go back. read more

Taco ocho is pretty good. Get the tortas, the tacos are a bit dry. They have pretty good salads, and the flautas are surprisingly good.

This is my favorite place to eat lunch! I have been eating here since they opened and always crave their Tostada Plate and the Queso & Chips! The dining area is clean and attractive and the menu offers a variety of unique Mexican inspired combinations that are always made with fresh ingredients. They have recently added Stubborn Soda products made with pure cane sugar & natural flavors like lemon berry and vanilla cream. The new sodas complement the food very well! I had their cuban sandwich- it tasted great, but nothing like an actual cuban sandwich. Their yucca chips served with it were a great side. The second time, I was highly disappointment that they no longer offered yucca or plantain chips but beans or regular tortilla chips instead. read more

WOW, we went today and had the new meatless monday dishes. They were wonderful. The rice,corn,cilantro mixture is the best I've had. The 2 veggie tacos were full of a variety of textures and sweet and savory flavors. And, the 3 tostadas I chose were the caribbean. Soooo yummy with plaintain melting inside. With both meals we got a good helping of beans and refreshing rice. It was a cold damp day outside and we returned to it very satisfied. read more

I've visited Taco Ocho once or twice a week for lunch the past 4 months and have never been disappointed. The beef Colorado tacos with jimca slaw are amazing as are the smoked chicken elote tacos and Latin love. It can be kinda busy around 12 so I wait until 1 for the crowd to die down. If you work or live in the area it is much better than the plentiful chain fast food places in the area. Buy local and buy real food. read more

Must Love Taco Ocho! The Beef Colorado and Ancho Garlic Shrimp are my favorite! The beef is tender and juicy and full of flavor. The Ancho Garlic Shrimp is out of this world. It will rock your palate! The taco has 4 shrimps and packed with various spices. The rice is delicious, and it does not leave an after taste. The black bean sauce is very flavorful. I think I could order a bowl of it alongside the tortilla chips. I must not forget the corn tortillas. They have a nice mild flavor that allows you to taste what's inside the taco. The restaurant is super clean, and I love the fountain drink area. I only get one refill, but I like the freedom to fill my own drink with my preferred amount of ice. It was tasty as were the sides that came with the taco plate but I found the beans a bit runny, but I'm from the East coast so maybe that's how they're supposed to be. Just don't forget your paying for the super rad surroundings. If you find your still hungry after admiring the neat-o cookie tray with honkified version of a tostada and taco, with a meager side offering of rice and tasteless beans, go get you some real down on the rancho tacos at "Tacos y Mas" on Plano RD and Collins. Today was my first time to eat there and I didn't know what to expect, even though the online menu is very description. I ordered the Tostada Sampler with the Azeteca, Caribbean and Sonoran. When I picked up the tray, I thought they were pretty small - but we are just used to seeing huge plates of food that we really don't need. The 4 stars is for the serving size. The food was excellent! The tostadas were fresh and very crispy. A fork is needed because they break apart so easily. The taste combinations were SPOT-ON perfect and I didn't mind the fact that they were meatless. I hope they can make the Tostadas a la carte like the Tacos, because it would be nice to have different combinations. A friend ordered 2 soft tacos, which came with a generous helping of meat, which he also enjoyed very much. read more

I wanted to love it but just luke-warm liked it. I ordered through a food delivery company at my work (from the Flower Mound location) and got the Ensalada Ocho and a side of black beans. Everything was fresh, as advertised with the exception of the corn on the salad. I feel if you are going to boast about all the fresh and natural ingredients then you shouldn't be using frozen corn on a very fresh entrée: i.e.: a salad. The salad was also, most disappointingly, way too much lettuce and very skimpy on the toppings, in addition to there being no cheese at all. The chipotle ranch dressing was amazing, however. But, for the overall price I don't feel like I got my moneys worth. Especially not with the very small 4oz container that was only maybe 2 1/2oz full of black beans. Very, very good black bean puree but not even close to being the extra $1.50 worth (quantity wise). Overall, too expensive for what you get. read more

I am pretty excited about the wave of taco joints springing up around the city, and have found several that I love. I tried this one today, and was impressed by the decor, pretty cool industrial kind of look. I ordered a beef and a chicken fajita taco, and chips and salsa. I was a little surprised when they handed me one of those buzzing/blinking paging devices, seemed a little overkill since there were only 2 other parties in the place-but I guess they're prepared for a rush. Anyway, here's the deal: at $3.50 a taco, they have priced themselves securely in the "gourmet taco" catagory. If their price point was where it SHOULD BE, around $2.00, I would rate them more highly. The tacos were decent, as were the chips and salsa. But, at this price point, they have priced themselves to compete with places like Torchy's Tacos and Good 2 Go tacos. Trust me, there is no comparison, sorry! I can't justify spending this much for a "decent" taco, it better be great, like the 2 places previously mentioned. They should be priced more in the Fuzzy's range (which I also like), then I would rate them higher. read more

I really like this place a lot. They don't have a huge menu, but what they have is very solid (at least the several different things I've tried). I am quite fond of their Latina, it's very flavorful and it's vegetarian, which I really like having as an option, and this place has several vegan and vegetarian options. The owner is really nice, too. It seems that Taco Ocho is his passion and he takes pride in it. Apparently he quit his corporate job and spent two years, much to his wife's dislike, he said, in his kitchen cooking, and perfecting his food. I think that's quite admirable. There are some strange things on the menu, to me at least, like plantains in meat dishes, but my husband had something with them in it and they tasted nothing like I had thought they would. As a whole, Taco Ocho doesn't taste like the traditional Texas Mexican food (or Mexican food I've had anywhere else, for that matter), but in the best of ways; it's refreshing. I recommend this place, but not during the lunch hour as they are crazy. read more
