This place is da bomb. We got catering from them before - breakfast tacos - and they were delicious. When we visit to get their tacos and the kids get the quesadillas, it's always delicious and fresh and the place is always clean. Okay so oddly enough, this was my second time here on a whim in a city I don't live anywhere near. Last summer, we visited Dallas on family vacay and navigated to First Watch (our go to breakfast spot). When we pulled up and I realized there was a Mexican restaurant in the same parking lot where I could get a breakfast I would prefer, I made a bee line to Taco Ocho and told my family to eat whatever they wanted! Today, me and hubby are back in town on a quick trip to celebrate a friend who lives locally. Per the usual, we set the GPS to the nearest First Watch in route to the airport. When we pulled in and I saw Taco Ocho, I told him "look! We're back at the same one. Never mind our first plan, let's eat tacos!!" As with our first experience, we were greeted warmly and able to have our choice of seats. The food came fast and fresh. The service was mostly attentive. So here's what we had: Hubby ate two brisket tacos on a two taco breakfast plate (making it a plate adds the rice and beans). He was careful to order it with no cheese or sour cream. Our server repeated that back to him as "no dairy, got it!" ...then his plate came with cheese on the tacos and the beans. Since he's not allergic, he decided not to send it back. He is, however allergic to avocado and didn't notice it came on top of the brisket tacos. Since they were sizeable slices, he picked them off (placing them on my plate because I love avocado) and scraped off any little bits left behind. He then announced to me "I guess we're about to see how allergic I really am!" before biting in. [Spoiler alert: he had no reaction ] He said the brisket was tender but needed more seasoning; the rice was flavorful but maybe too salty; and the beans were good (what little he ate, eating around the cheese). I had a Matador (Brisket Breakfast Taco), a Polanco (breakfast taco), and a tostado. Tacos were both good but needed salt, so I added some of hubby's rice and that dressed them right up! I ended up not eating my tostado, realizing after biting in that the flavors were ones I didn't want at breakfast. The chips and salsa were perfect! Chips was well salted, which I like. I was stumbling for something healthy, affordable, gluten free, and light. I discovered Taco Ocho and I'm so glad I did! I ordered through Uber eats and my order came out great. I ordered vegan tacos and was blown away! I had the Ocho Maya ($4.99) & the Madre Tierra ($4.99). They both were great but my favorite was the Madre Tierra. The Ocho Maya was good too but it was a bit too spicy for me. However, the veggies in both of them had that crunch and wasn't overly done. The ingredients were fresh and everything came out hot! My order arrived still hot which was impressive. Salsa that came along with it was on mild side but tasted fresh! I do see myself getting the Madre Tierra again as the flavors complimented so well with each other! I love how the potato in that taco made it shine! Both of the tacos were on a gluten free flour tortilla and didn't taste grainy whatsoever when I had it. The vegan tacos were not dry and the ingredients exceeded my expectations. Also why is nobody talking about the photos that they provide on their online menu? I love places that do that!! Overall, it was a great experience and I will be back to explore more options!! I was traveling for work and stopped here because it was close to my hotel and I ordered to go. I went in without any expectations. The menu has a lot of offerings and I ended up going with the Cubana Torta. It was delicious and a good size. The meats had good flavor and had the perfect amount of spice for me. The bread was soft and the meat to bun ratio was spot on. I chose the fries as my side and they were basically steak fries(ish), or pretty average. There isn't much ambience to the site and the staff was cordial but not super friendly or inviting. I believe this place qualifies as fast casual meaning the food is better than fast food, as is the service, but the price is higher too. $15 for the torta seemed a little high for what it was. Overall a decent experience and I believe you could find something that would bring you back so it might be something you should consider if you're near one. read more

Tried this place for first and last time. The cleanliness is very bad the glass they served water in had some yellow/ greenish stuff stuck on it. They food was tasteless the server forgot our drinks order and if you called him to you he would just wave back at you. I ordered the spinach and black bean quesadillas which were really tasteless as well as the queso blanco I ordered which was watery. My wife ordered a veggie taco and a potato, egg and cheese taco platter in which the potato egg and cheese taco came with bacon which we can not eat upon asking the server what this is she said "I don't know". The $9.99 price a bit steep, but there was enough food to feed 1.5 of us: a large helping of tortilla strips scrambled with eggs, chorizo, pico de gallo, Oaxaca cheese, cilantro, cotija cheese and served with black beans, Yucatan potatoes, two flour tortillas plus two kinds of salsas. My dish arrived on the lukewarm side unfortunately. Everything was tasty enough, but I prefer hot food to be served hot. This place was really clean, and the staff seemed friendly. Taco's were GREAT! But bring your own napkins and silver ware. I got the $12 Margarita and it might have had 1.5 shots of liquid in it, not tequila, liquid, never seen a marg so small. Never got checked on, never got a refill, water, or asked for anything else to drink even considering my marg was empty and pushed to the edge of the bar. Before I could ask for a drink waitress was gone. If they would have been busy I would have got it. But at 2:45 in the afternoon I was the only customer. ZERO reason not to have at least some service. I was excited to try to this place! However, it wasn't as how I expected it to be. When I first walked in, the atmosphere and the appearance of the place was cute, clean, and decorative. I ordered the two taco plate with the chicken and beef fajita. It came along with cilantro lime rice and chips and salsa. It was a good portion for $10. However, the tacos were lacking of flavor. It was a big taco filled with lots of meat but were bland. The rice was also very dry and the chips were stale. So we were on our way to have brunch at Cafe Brazil. When we got there the line was out the door. I looked in the restaurant there were lots of empty tables so that made me think they were short handed. Then I looked to Yelp for another breakfast option close to 75. Trusty Yelp lead me to Taco Ocho! As I walked in I really didn't know what to expect. It was extremely clean and a friendly woman was standing behind the counter. I looked at the picture on the menu. It's the one with a sunny side up egg in the middle. I asked her what that was and she said it was an Ocho stack. I didn't even ask what was on it, I just ordered it. I didn't know how big it was so I ordered a bacon egg and cheese breakfast taco as well. Now, that I received the order I can tell you what is in it. It had three crispy corn tortillas stuffed with black beans, asadero cheese, carnitas and topped with an egg, avocado crema and served with Yucatan potatoes. It was heaven! I could eat it every day! Speaking of eating it everyday, could you please open one in Mckinney! The breakfast taco was much larger than most taco eateries! They did not skimp on the fillings. I left stuffed! We went here for a late lunch as a group of 4. They have a variety of options for vegans and meat-eaters. In addition to vegan tacos, salad, nachos and tortas, they have a variety of drink options including alcoholic drinks, agua frescas, horchata, and flavored teas and soda. They have rootbeer, pineapple creme soda, and several other novel flavors. The service was prompt, restaurant was clean, and they were friendly. We ordered: 3 taco plates (2 were vegan), brisket nachos, and guacamole. They guacamole was chunky and fresh. Their salsa was smoky yet not overwhelming. The price was a bit higher than what I'm used to but you get a lot of food for your money- the tacos were overflowing! Contrary to other Yelpers, the beans ARE vegan as indicated by the restaurant (see attached). Overall, everything was flavorful, filling, clean, and friendly. We've been coming to Taco Ocho for years. Overall, the food is very good, but I must say I've found the two tacos I really like and tend to stick to those. Latin Love taco is tender beef with a sweet plantain, and I like the chicken elote taco. Both are big and stuffed with meat. I'm not a giant fan of the white rice and black refried beans side, but none the less they are good and I scarf them down. The salsa is very good but they serve it out in little portions so you just have to keep asking for more. Prices are not cheap ($15 for the two taco plate with rice and beans) but the quantity and quality of the food is very good so overall the value for money is there. If you are in the mood for something a little different than typical "Tex Mex", try this place out. read more

My favorite restaurant in the entire city of Richardson, hands down. I've been coming to Ocho for a few years now, but during the pandemic it became something of a comfort food constant for me. There's a lot of Tex-Mex in Texas of course, but Taco Ocho is a true Mexican restaurant. Their menu gets deep into their Mexican roots, with cuisine that reflects specific regional favorites of Mexico, as well as pan-Latin offerings inspired by Puerto Rico and the Caribbean. Rest assured though, the menu is very accessible even if--especially if--all you know of Mexican food is "tacos". Their slow cooked chicken, beef, and pork all burst with flavor without giving you soggy, fall-apart taco disasters. Their tortas taste as good as any I've had in Texas without greasy feeling some places can leave you with. And their tostadas are the stuff your stomach dreams of: light but deeply fulfilling offerings that curate those regional flavors like nothing else on the menu. The smoked chicken elote tacos are fantastic, but the tinga tostada gives it room to breathe with the added depth of their refried black bean spread beneath it. Where Taco Ocho really shines is in the impressive creativity on display in their brunch menu. A lot of kitchens would be happy to offer you chilaquiles on the weekend and call it quits--and Taco Ocho does have an excellent plate of chilaquiles on offer. But the options spread out confidently from there: the Buenos Dias knows brunch is often the breakfast of the unfortunate souls with hangovers, and brings a combination of a fried egg atop breakfast potatoes pulling double duty soaking up the delicious Argentinian sauce from the ample amounts of slow cooked brisket underneath it all. The Vegan Dream is a killer chickpea scramble, vibrant and surprisingly spicy, packed with bright vegetables and accompanied by the crowd favorite black frijoles and breakfast potatoes. But my all time favorite dish at Taco Ocho is one they're proud to give their name to: the Ocho Stack. The name might conjure images of an eight-layer monstrosity daring those who claim to have bottomless stomachs to pick up the gauntlet, but that couldn't be further from the truth. The Ocho Stack is only three crispy fried tortillas tall. the bottom and middle layers are filled with just the right amount of carnitas on top of perfectly spread layers of, you guessed it, black frijoles, and topped with a fried egg, drizzled with a bright avocado crema, finished off with a finely diced pico de gallo. It is very nearly enough by itself, and for most people it will be, but for those (like myself) who love a good side, the stack comes with their Yucatán potatoes (potatoes and red onions in a creamy, spicy Yucatán sauce) and plantains given their own drizzle of sour cream and a sprinkle of crumbly cotija cheese. All in all, it covers almost the entire spectrum of flavors all on one plate, and is well worth a try no matter how wild your Friday night beforehand was. Whatever you choose, you literally can't go wrong at Taco Ocho! P.S. - Their black sweet tea is literally award winning and should not be slept on! Recently found this place which has a vegan menu. Tried the rio ocho taco and the Caribbean tostado, both have the crispy plantain. I like the use of plantain in the tacos. The vegan options are good and different but I found the taste to be a bit bland. I'd really love it if the tacos had spicier sauces. Also for meat eaters, my friend who tried the coconut-connection taco which is chicken loved it and was raving about it. I would go back to try other options that have to offer. Came back with a group of friends for dinner and got the two taco plate again, and this time I got the beer-battered cod taco and the garlic shrimp taco! Had to add a star this time because the guy who took my order was very gracious about my "no cilantro" request; even the rice that came out had no cilantro in it, and the amount of cilantro in the pico was negligible. They were even nice enough to put the plantain salsa in a side cup so that I could pick around the cilantro and put what I wanted onto the shrimp taco, which was also really delicious and filling. Beer-battered cod taco was as amazing and flavorful as last time. Still wasn't able to finish my rice and beans because there was so much of it on my plate, but they were really good! Definitely enjoyed my second experience at Taco Ocho and will be coming back again the next time I feel a craving for tacos! read more
