Mexican food in Chatanooga has broken away from the Americanized chains to authentic Mexican. Toco Roc is another welcome addition in this trend. They serve authentic Mexican comfort food. Well prepared. You can look at a menu or order off the pictures that are behind the counter. I saw the special tacos and ordered them (bacon added). There were many other options that I can have on another day. The horchata was not overly strong in the cinnamon flavor and good. With a salsa bar in the main part of the restaurant you can customize your meal to your tastes. Watch the pico de gallo, one has pepper added and one doesn't. There aren't any labels or scoville heat indications.

Great authentic Mexican food! We got the taco platter as well as the tamale platter. The tamales were amazing with the right amount of spice and the tacos were delicious as well!

    Main dining area. Very simple!!!

This place is Authentic Mexican which is a bit of a surprise in Chattanooga. (Although it is a College town..) The decor is very simple. Wooden tables: either booths or 2,4,6, 8 tops with pleather steel chairs. And it's Counter Service although they will deliver to your table. The chips are made with flour tortillas & are hot & lightly salted. They provide a small carafe of regular salsa with the chips which is okay but go to the salsa bar & try the others. They are much better IMHO. The Guacamole is off the charts fabulous! Creamy & chunky with a slight kick. They have an AWESOME salsa & condiment bar with 6 different fresh salsas: 3 Spicy & 3 Mild. They offer pico de gallo, fresh chopped white onion, & chopped parsley as well as pickled & grilled jalapeños! I ordered the Barbacoa pulled spiced beef & the Carnitas pulled pork soft corn tacos. Both were DELISH! They offer bottled beers as well as as Micheladas. Fountain Soft drinks, sweet & unsweetened tea & bottled soft drinks. All the staff were nice, friendly, polite, courteous & efficient. The dining area & bathrooms are clean. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Bean tacos with simple toppings - in this picture I've only added pico- so far!

Most authentic Mexican food in Chattanooga that I've had. They have more variety than most Mexican restaurants. Delicious homemade tortillas and chips! Make sure you load up at the salsa bar - there are so many different kinds to try! I got 3 bean tacos, they were yummy and so filling I could only eat 2 of them. I'll be back!

Great local Tex-Mex for in or take-out. Willing to modify items to my Vegetarian tastes as well. Our favorite place for burritos.

Authentic Mexican tacos. Don't expect the americanized cheese and iceburg lettuce here. Salsa bar. Good prices. LOVE it.

Easily the best authentic Mexican in Chattanooga. Not incredibly clean, but what hole in the wall restaurant ever is?

Tonight I ordered a dish that was unacceptable in that when I cut into my shrimp, chimichanga, water poured out or something similar to the consistency. It was disgusting, so I sent it back. The manager explained that this was better or oil. Lol. I cook with both of the above very often. It was not. I think that it was frozen shrimp inside the tortilla. My dish was steaming, and was very hot when it was served, which lend me to believe that it was in the microwave. My next order was the fajitas. I ordered shrimp, chicken and steak. Not one time did my waiter replace my chips, nor act as though I was an important guest. It was one of the worst experiences that I have had in some time. My bill was exorbitant because I ordered margaritas along with my food. I will never be back. I ordered margaritas, because I chose to drink instead of eat since the food was so bad. This place is one step above Taco Bell in my opinion. In addition, I left a very nice cash tip. This was not due to the fact that the service was great, it was because I felt guilty for sending back my first order.

We had our two young girls and they were very understanding and accommodating (high chair and coloring sheets). The menu is interesting but to be honest, we enjoyed almost none of our items. The cocktails were very meh. Not awful but not great. The food is really where this place lacks in my opinion. No one was a fan of almost any dish we got. The puffy tacos with redfish were likely the worst. Under seasoned and close to being gross. The catfish dish was so so. The fish itself was good but the grits were hard and the green tomatoes were so sour that they overpowered everything else. The ribs tried but I'd suggest going to a legit BBQ joint for real meats like this. The potatoes were greasy and mostly bland. I'd rank this our least favorite meal in the city. Interestingly enough. We were just at a Michelin star restaurant less than a week before and had the complete opposite experience.

Upon arrival, a friendly host found us comfortable booth seating behind the bar. The waitress not only answered our food allergy related questions pertaining to certain dish prep but the manager came over to our table to assure us that she would be double checking our order to make sure there was no allergen cross contamination. Such a kind, thoughtful gesture! Mom and I ordered the sampler to split - a huge tray filed with delish gluten free chips, a delish bowl salsa verde, a delish bowl of homemade guacamole, and a delish bowl of homemade cheese sauce. For my lunch, I got two of my favorite tacos on their menu still, the California Club ones, large tacos filled with roasted chicken, a tasty like crema, and avocado. Not as hungry as I, Mom got an Oy Vey Taco, another longstanding goodie, a brisket based taco, which she enjoyed. Our later than planned Wednesday lunch was perfect.

It took a while for a server to see us, but then it was fast to get our drinks as well as food once orders were placed. Tacos were alright, Cali club was messy & drippy. Homeboy was good but I don't think I'd get the spicy version again - not overly spice just overly sauced. The appetizer trio was good, but seemed expensive at $14. Overall the place is nice, but a little expensive for tacos.
