Came here for happy hour on Thursday (it was my first time and I've been wanting to try). I wasn't sure how it worked- the employees at the pick up line saw me but didn't acknowledge- so I went to them and asked where I can set for happy hour. The employee said he didn't know they had a happy hour but then said if they do have one that I probably have to sit at the bar. This is a new spot and it was a very pleasant surprise. I tried 5 different tacos Rockfish - was my favorite, fish was well seasoned and slaw and sauce was delicious. We jammin jerk chicken was also really good this has the most flavor, the chicken, sauce and mango salsa was awesome. Shrimp was good, nice slaw but it's only one shrimp. The salmon taco was good not great but tasty. Grouper taco was solid choice, but if I gotta get a fish definitely go for the Rockfish. I've been on a quest to find good Mexican food in the DMV since I moved here. Being from California, it's my favorite cuisine and it has been a constant hunt. Taco Rock is good but doesn't hit the spot for what I really crave often. All the tacos were missing something to me seasoning wise, except the fish taco. I have a feeling all the exotic tacos are the best ones, so I'll definitely be back to try those soon and some margaritas. The service is good and everyone is nice that I came in contact with, despite placing my order online. TERRIFIC TACOS and NO COMPARISON NACHOS is what stood out here. The decor was very fun (rock and roll theme) and the salsa/sauces were extremely fresh and delicious. My husband and I had a wonderful meal here (he had a burrito and I had the taco salad with chicken and the one and only PUFF blue corn nachos with queso). HANDS DOWN the best "fast" Tex Mex I have ever had. They also host a lot of events (comedy nights etc) that I am definitely wanting to come back for, too. The employees were SO kind. Grand Opening and I'm here for it! So excited to have a new Taco Rock in the neighborhood! The location is perfect with outdoor seating, a bar inside and a row of a few tables in the center. When you first walk in you're greeted with a few kiosks for you to place your order. There are a few pagers right next to them where you assign one to yourself. It's a great idea for those comfortable with computers but I could see this being troublesome for those who don't navigate as well. Once you order your food, you can either sit at a table, casually wait for your to go or chill at the cool bar. There is a salsa bar located to the right of the bar for you to enjoy unlimited sauces. The drink fountains are very cool and a newer style. They only offer Pepsi products though. The food... let's talk about this. There is a HUGE selection for you to choose from and I orders almost every single taco and every single one of them had taste buds jumping for joy! They have nachos, street corn, chips, poppers, dessert, veggie options, chicken, meat, fish, seafood, etc. there's a lot going on with this menu. The only thing I noticed was that they have too many hands in the kitchen. What I mean by that is... they have a lot of help outside of the kitchen running the food and they kept messing up orders. It's new though and I imagine it'll get better over time. My order was to go and they missed my 2 orders of the empanadas. I tried calling but no one answered. ALWAYS down for a good margarita but this place has somehow produced the WORST margaritas I've ever had and I tried 3 different ones. Subjective, I know, but the taste of sweet coconut in the spicy margarita can actually turn the stomach a notch. Even took back to the bar with bartender response of saying he didn't add coconut but could if I wanted. The Lava one, mezcal and Hawaiian black salt, was so salty that one wondered if the drink was poured over the salt instead of on the rim. That particular dislike could be on me but between those 2 I'd choose the salt like one! Sister ordered the coconut one which was okay which is why I was wondering if the bartender errored and put the coconut in the wrong drink. Anyways.... Gross and left 2 full, $14-15 drinks on the table instead of taking the hit and trying to finish them. Food was okay and dare I say... bland. First time coming to this location and what a disappointment. I ordered the birria ramen and it has by far been the worse birria ramen I've ever had. The meat was dry, the noodles tasted weird and the broth lacked flavor. My husband ordered the chicken "torta" it was very small not the size of a torta. Chicken was dry and it lacked flavor. We also ordered the pupusa taco with steak, the stead was very dry, cold and flavorless. My first time here. The kiosk ordering process is pretty user friendly, but can be a bit of an issue when you have kids that want to take things off the menu item (onions, sauces, etc...) which only certain items will allow. The tacos came out pretty quickly and were delicious-some of the best in the area! The chips and salsa and queso however was horrible and not worth the money. You get like 10 chips, a small ramekin size salsa (that doesn't taste good btw) and a bowl of queso in a styrofoam container that is also no bueno. Def recommend skipping that. We ordered margaritas which weren't bad but with all the ice in the glass ended up being like 5 sips. It's a fairly new place so the inside looks very sports bar-ish and gives that kind of vibe. Please be aware of their online ordering system. You may encounter several pending charges without receiving an order. My wife placed an order online, and we received two pending charges. I went to the restaurant and was informed that they recently outsourced their online ordering system and were experiencing difficulties with it. When I spoke to an employee, they contacted a manager via their cell phone. My card was charged with a phantom charge twice! Most likely, the pending charges will fall off, but I could be charged a third time if I wanted to place my order. Now, I have to monitor my account to ensure the phantom charges are removed. They need to implement a more robust online system. As for me, I will no longer order from them because I don't want to deal with phantom charges on my credit card or risk being charged a third time for one food order. When I contacted the store, the manager suggested to bring the fajita back.Why would we waste time to bring the food back. The manager should had suggested a credit or refund on the credit card. If I compare taco rock to chipotle, I would have to say that chipotle is much better and let me mention what's wrong with taco rock in my opinion, comparing it to chipotle. First, when I go to chipotle I can just point it what I want in my taco and it's very easy to make the order and quick. When I do it at taco rock, I have to go on different computer screens and scroll around just to do real simple things like order tacos and say what I want on it and everything else. That would probably be OK, but the actual food wasn't that appetizing. I got a Carne Asada and also chicken taco and also Ramen and and I was very hungry after a long run today.
