Wow totally unimpressed with this place. Came after a soccer game with the whole team. The beef was like MUSH no flavor and tasted like absolute shit. The "grilled chicken" tacos were NOT good they too were mush and not grilled. Come on guys don't cut corners. My Indian next door neighbor could make better Mexican food. While wine tasting in Buellton we needed a place to refuel halfway through the day. Just coming from Sanford and Alma Rosa, we remembered seeing a taco stand down the road. We stopped in at Taco Roco and the fish taco sounded good. A grilled mahi mahi taco, served with cabbage, tartar sauce, and a great pico de gallo with a little mango in it. It was delicious! (see pics) The hard shell tacos were good too, but needed some of their delicious hot sauce to add that extra kick. This is now a must stop while on the Buellton wine tour. read more

In the mood for good Mexican food we stopped at Taco Roco in Buellton on Saturday evening. My husband and I frequent a restaurant in Lompoc and the food is always good and consistent. Same owners? The name is similar but that is where the similarity ends. We both got what we usually do. At literally the same moment we looked at each other and said "this is NOT the same". While my husband's tacos were edible, my taco salad was not. Pieces of the grilled chicken had that getting old taste to them, the beans were dried out and the guacamole was brown. Nice traditional adobe place, with Mexican tile and music on the stereo. Clean facilities and all that jazz. $2.50 Burrito Monday ended up selling me. Pastor Burrito and a Horchata under $5. Fast service and Out the door. I don't know if they ran out of burrito coverin's or their recipe for a burrito is a huge soft taco but that's what I got. most traditional Mexican spots are personal recipes and every one does it different and that's the best part. Stopped here for an early dinner as it's right off the 101 at ave of the flags exit. Parking was easy and we ordered at the register-hubby got his taco roco burrito and I got a healthy veggie burrito, with red sauce on top( wet). They have indoor dining with limited tables and a nice outside patio, backyard area with tables, chairs and umbrellas. We opted to eat in the outdoor patio area. I found the indoor dining to be very dark, old and dank. They brought hubby's burrito out first and mine followed about 10-15 minutes later. I didn't get why-both we're served on a plate and mine had chips on the side. Hubby's had guacamole and chopped tomatoes with a mound of sour cream. The red sauce was very bland, so I got some salsa from their salsa bar. Also bland and a bit sweet. My burrito had black beans, rice, carrots, onions, zucchini inside. It was very bland-no cheese in or out! Hubby's was full of spicy meat, rice and beans and he enjoyed his. Mine was okay-overall very bland. I like their other locations better because the food is more flavorful. Overall location needs a good freshening up-handwritten signs and a very worn look about it wasnt real inviting. I have been a full life resident of the SYV and have seen the slow decline of this restaurant over the past few years. The food that used to be fresh and enjoyable is now dull and greasy and the once attentive and pro-customer staff is now lazy and bitter. There is a large problem with the language barrier since most of the staff is mainly Spanish speaking which makes sense in a Mexican restaurant but the main cashier can't even give a total, she just points at the receipt. One night we attempted to phone in an order but couldn't place it because the person taking our order couldn't understand me well enough to run my credit card. This used to be one of my favorite places to grab a quick bite but unfortunately I probably won't be going back anytime soon. read more

It is a pretty small place, so don't expect to have a place to sit if you go with a bunch of friends. Well, my wife and I came back after our first visit last fall. Again, we were in our RV at Flying Flags Resort. Stopped in on Saturday for some tacos at lunchtime. These are really wonderful. simple tacos with all of the fixins right on the counter to load up for yourself. When we departed on Monday I went over and got a coupe of to-go orders. I usually try to stop by here for taco Tuesdays - .99c each! That's a deal hard to beat, and on Wednesday they have a cheap burrito deal. Their food is pretty great - traditional taqueria. When I miss great Mexican street vendor tacos I can come here and come close to recapturing the flavor. I will be back to this place again and again and always look forward to their tacos de lengua and tacos de pastor. The menu is very diverse and will always give you something good to choose from. The husband and I stopped at Taco Roco on the way to work for a breakfast burrito. We werent in a hurry, thank goodness. It took 15-20 minutes for us to get one burrito. Once on the road we opened up the burrito which contained solid egg and a tiny bit of bacon. It was just ok. Unfortunately, the burrito was so boiling lava hot that we couldn't even eat it for another 10 minutes. They had to have put it in the microwave forever.
