ATTIRE Totally casual, so I would normally be in a t-shirt, boardshorts, and flip-flops. OVERALL The "Taco Stand" at the corner of Santa Monica Blvd. and Madison Ave. was da bomb and there was no denying that! The prices were cheap, service was excellent, food was amazing, selection off the hook (they had all the meats but wished they had some fish on that hook, though!), seemingly there every night, and best of all it was walking distance from my crib! Although they also sold burritos ($5.00), mulitas ($2.50), and quesadillas ($5.00), I've only indulged in their tacos...which needed to be rectified. I found very good value based on the prices, service, and experience noted above (MY TOTAL paid experience was around $10.00 BEFORE any discounts and/or tip). Once your order is ready, your order will be called where the people are making the tacos. Their pastor is simply amazing! You've got good tacos and fantastic salsas in particular here at the unnamed taco stand in East Hollywood on Madison and Santa Monica. Star 1: How were the service and atmosphere? Don't know any Spanish? Well brush up buttercup, because the friendly folks at Taco Stand don't care and are going to speak it to you anyway. It's charming in a way, and while my Spanish is absolutely elementary at best, I found myself joking around with them by the end of the night. The tacos take a bit of time depending on the line, but I had my three in maybe ten minutes. Star. Star 2: How were the portions relative to the cost? $1.25 each is a great price point for what were in this case standard sized street tacos. Star. Stars 3 and 4: How was the food? I opted for a combination of pastor, carne asada, and chorizo, and all three were excellent with the chorizo being the highlight. While I did wish that there had been a proper pastor spit, the meats were very good and were made all the better with a great array of peripherals and fantastic salsas (with the red being the highlight). Was visiting LA and helped a taco stand with 5 stars .... came across this Stand. A friendly lady greeted us and quickly took our order. We ordered so many tacos I lost count. We tried al pastor, carne Assad, Bunche, and also a steak quesadilla. To drink we got their delicious aguas frecas de Limon and naranja. Awesome little taco stand. We were starving and this made for a nice meal after a long day at Universal Studios. The tacos here are great. Wife and I shared 6 tacos (2 each of the asada, al pastor, and pollo) and a carnitas quesadilla to bring back to the hotel...when we were done, we wish we had gotten 2 more tacos of any kind. The asada, carnitas, and al pastor we're all tied for our favorites, with the pollo a close second...that we're all great! Tacos were $1.25 each and the Quesadilla was $5...and well worth it. A couple of notes: -the taco stand is clean; -not the most well lit of areas; -parking can be difficult; -open until midnight; it's cash only; -the guys cooking are super friendly, ask them anything; -if you take the food to go, don't forget to get some limes, hot sauce, cilantro, onions, jalapeños, and the spicy cucumbers (never saw cucumbers at my local taqueria); -the red hot sauce and the spiced cucumbers add a nice little kick to the tacos. This place deserves a perfect score. All their food is on point. I love the Mulitas and tacos. I have had Asada, al pastor, chorizo and chicken. My least favorite was the chicken and my favorite was the Asada . The reason why the chicken is my least favorite is bc the chicken isn't crispy or chard that just how I prefer it but it still very tasty. My husband and I stayed at the Hollywood Hotel and on our first night, we wanted something quick and nearby. A quick google search of Mexican food brought us here and it was truly a blessing! BIBLIOTACO! I call this place Bibliotaco because it's right across the street from the Cahuenga Library (la biblioteca). It's located on the corner of Santa Monica Blvd and Madison Ave in East Hollywood. I RAVE ABOUT THIS PLACE TO ALL OF MY FRIENDS! And they refer to this corner taco stand as Bibliotaco too now lol! These tacos are seriously the BOMB! The way they make their meat is so good. I love their carne asada tacos. They have many meat options like al pastor, pollo, buche, lengua etc. their salsa bar is AWESOME. I'm addicted to the green sauce. The red sauce is nice and spicy. They also have plenty of limes, onions, cilantro, cucumber etc. They also offer some good orange Agua Fresca! This place is my go to for authentic LA street tacos! It gets super busy at night. This is my new favorite taco spot. They have all the essentials - carne asada, lengua, cabeza, chorizo, al pastor with the delicious caramelized pineapple chunks mixed in (carved directly from the spit on weekends). The salsa bar is fairly extensive and includes not only a variety of medium to very spicy salsas but cucumbers marinated in aguachile and onions lightly pickled with habanero. Plus the price cannot be beat - $1 tacos and $5 burritos. Don't miss the only beverage available, the agua fresca made with fresh oranges which tastes like Mexican Tang and is the perfect foil to the chile heat. This spot is the best!! And I'm not just saying it because they're local but because they are! They do them like you want and don't take longer than 5 to 10 minutes to get you out of there. We are traveling with picky eaters (2 teens and a preteen) and they all loved it. My husband fell in love with their torta de asada.
