There are a number of 24 hour Cali-Mexican restaurants around the Denver area, but Taco Star is my favorite. From their carne asada fries, to the giant burrito, to their rolled tacos, all the staples in my post 2am food cravings are met here and more. It's pretty clean inside, and maybe I'm a minority but I eat here for dinner sometimes when I'm craving carne asada fries. There is a legit salsa cart with 4 types of salsa and other toppings like cilantro and limes. One of the red salsas is spicy, so taste before you dump a whole spoon on your food like I did! Closest thing I've been able to find to a California Burrito like the ones you get in San Diego . They call it a Colorado burrito but it's the same . Very large , very good. Sauce is nice too . The food is good here. I love the Colorado burrito. I just don't like the fact that there is some inconsistency with what you may get in the burrito. One time it had guac and the next it didn't. One time it had Pico in half of the burrito and the next time there was none. I'm not sure what that is about. I also have yet to deal with a pleasant employee. We stopped by for breakfast burrito and found out they had huevos rancheros. Now this is a California Style Mexican food, so no green chili. That being said the flavor was great! Not spicy at all but very good. The beans and rice that came with the huevos were just like I like them and the eggs were cooked perfectly. Not bad for a drive thru. We also had a bacon, egg, and cheese breakfast burrito. WOW was it loaded wit crips delicious salty bacon, hash browned potatoes, egg, and cheese. Again no green chili inside, but it was like an awesome bacon sandwich wrapped in a tortilla. I want another one now just as I'm writing this. My first time at Taco Star was a lot like throwing a dart down Havana St. and hitting a bullseye. I love trying new spots, but usually am skeptical about new Mexican restaurants-- mostly because I have my go-tos already. This unassuming drive-through won me over with the first bite, and after four visits and as many breakfast burritos, It's at the top of my breakfast list. French fries in my burrito? Yes please. Wait at least 10 minutes in the window for my order when it finally arrives I hustle out because the queue is long. I get home and guess what? I order a chicken taco that comes in a hard shell through the drive thru. When I got home, I opened the paper wrapper and discovered congealed chicken, lettuce, and cheese mess in HALF taco shell. Not like the shell disintegrated. No. The shell was broken, and the broken half fell away somewhere in the restaurant, and no one even so much as attempted to make a new taco or place the congealed mess in a new taco shell. I would have rather spent the money at Taco Bell or Del Taco. I've learned my lesson. read more

I gave 2 stars, because when I walk-in, I get good service and tasty shredded beef tacos. But, NEVER, NEVER, NEVER do the drive-through at night. The 30 something man at the drive through charged me $31.97 on my credit card for 4 tacos on Taco Tuesday (that should have been 8 dollars). He only spoke Spanish to us, but I understood him and told my husband that he is going to charge us $31.97 and to go home and check the charges on the card. Sure enough, the douche-bag did charge us the $31.97. We called them right away, and they were not concerned in the least. Until we used the word "fraud," he was argumentative and unresponsive. He told us to drive all the way back and he would credit the card. Well, it was late so we had to do it the next day. We drove all the way there and the daytime manager wasn't surprised at all. He wasn't apologetic. He tried to blame it on "the young guy" that works at night. Nope, it was the 30-something manager, and he knew exactly what he was doing. He made us pull up the charge on our phone so he could see it, and then slowly and reluctantly did the charge-back. This seems to be a regular occurrence at Taco Star. They should be turned into the Attorney General and the BBB. If management doesn't care about customers getting ripped-off, then I am NEVER eating there again. A stupid rip-off costs them a loyal customer. I love Tacos Rapidos the most. I never have trouble there. One day, I hope they open in Aurora, and blow Taco Star out of the water. My husband and I have eaten here twice and have not been disappointed by the food. The tacos were tasty as were the tostadas. I also had two enchiladas that were delicious. There are sauces that come with the order that allow you to spice it up because the food is pretty mild. The price is very reasonable as well. Both times, our order has been close but not perfect. One thing wrong each time although I ordered everything without tomatoes and this part was perfect. The thing that will stop me from eating here is the use of Styrofoam containers. I can't in good conscious eat at a place that uses so much styrofoam that is not recyclable. Especially with everyone doing take out because of Covid, it is unfortunate that they are not at all environmentally friendly. Let me know when you start using different containers! read more

We love this place for breakfast burritos served all hours. The customer service is always wonderful-just the nicest people working the window every time. We live nearby and frequently pick up food. Everyone who we've ever brought breakfast burritos from here has enjoyed them. I appreciate how they'll customize ingredients when needed. Taco Star on Peoria St. 11-09-18 I thought, why not? At $9.50 for a beef burrito and one taco, I shoulda run. I went to the drive thru, and pulled up in the parking lot to eat. BTW, no receipt offered. The taco was mostly lettuce, not much taste otherwise. Then on to the huge beef burrito. The only taste in it was the red and green sauce I added. Then there was the huge chunk of red pepper...not bad, but 1/5 of the burrito! The taco was somewhere around $2.50; right beside a Del Taco that had ads for 49 cent tacos... Found Taco Star when I was looking for some late night eats after a concert. At first it was they are open and serve Tacos..... But after seeing the menu I was really excited. The menu is similar to Alberto's in Southern California (one of my happy places) and the food was similar as well. Carna Asada burrito, Taquitos and Guac, Carne Asada tacos and Carne Asada fries... All good options. They have chicken, carnitas and other fine meat options as well. Hope you enjoy. read more

The food is pretty decent, but the staff who works there is fucking terrible. Definitely not people that should be working in customer service. They treat you like your inconveniencing them by even coming to the restaurant, definitely not friendly, don't smile and have an attitude when they fuck up your order (which happens more often then not) they all definitely need to be fired. Maybe not hire family and friends which I have to assume they are. Only family and friends can treat people the way they do and expect to still have a job.
