We were heading to the 4th of July celebration in Oak Creek and took the opportunity to give Azteca a try. Let me start off by saying, we were not disappointed. They have indoor and outdoor dining spaces available. Outdoor is on the sidewalk but still looks enjoyable. As you can tell we opted for inside. The restaurant was lively. Slightly difficult to hold a conversation unless you're with a bunch of loud talkers. Our server was attentive and gave us time to look over the menu, even on a busy Friday night. We shared the guac appetizer. Good for the 3 of us, but order another if you have more people. Otherwise, we had a mix of tacos and fajitas. Azteca in South Milwaukee is now open for lunch. Last week we finally got the time to go there for lunch. The hubs had Enchilada Suizas and I had the steak torta. Both were fantastic. The food is always fantastic when we go there. The owners Carlos and Rossi are great people. Everyone there is friendly and helpful. A couple of tidbits about Azteca Restaurant MKE, they started in a gas station years ago. They moved to the location that they are in now and never looked back. Azteca comes highly recommended but is on the other side of town for us so took us years to finally try it out. It did not disappoint! Start to finish it was a wonderful experience, and of course the food is the star of the show. Service was very attentive and friendly but not overbearing. The seating inside is very spacious and comfortable and there are several tables outside on their sidewalk patio in nice weather (umbrellas included for shade!). You can tell they put thought into every little detail, and that makes a difference. The presentation of the food is as beautiful as the food was delicious. And the decor of this restaurant, inside and out, is stunning. We had the enmoladas (basically the lunch special of the mole enchiladas that are on the regular menu), and the quesabirria, which we especially enjoyed because it wasn't overly heavy and greasy like a lot of quesabirrias, but still very flavorful. The food was delicious but when they first brought out the plates one was dirty so lost points there. Yet they made up for it with the service and amazing food. I like how attentive my server was plus the overall vibe of the restaurant! Everyone from the host to the servers etc kept a smile on their face and just seemed really happy we were there. This is a don't judge a book by a cover restaurant. The steak tacos were delicious with lots of flavor but what makes this place really stand out are their cocktails. The waitress swore by their mojitos and she was not wrong. This place makes a phenomenal mojito. But my girlfriend got the pina colada and made me try it. We both agreed this was the best pina colada we ever tried. We cannot stress enough those drinks. Give this place a try! read more

The reviews are right! This place earns its high rating. A cute and moderately sized dining room in an old building amidst a charming area of south milwaukee awaits you when you visit Azteca. On our first visit, the Saturday evening crowd was vibrating and the live music was lively. We were seated immediately for our reservation. The menu is pretty extensive and in line with most other authentic Mexican restaurants. The three different salsas were good. We sampled the house margaritas and they were solid. The stars of the show were the food and the staff. The food was prepared exactly to requested variations. The steak enchilada with added fresh jalepenos with verde sauce on top was excellent, as was the chili rellenos with chorizo. Our friends got the suiza enchilada and they looked yummy. So nice to have a margarita with fresh ingredients and good tequila instead of the syrup mix at most places. The tacos were amazing. The Cochinita pibil taco was the best I have had in my 64 years traveling all over Mexico. The Asada taco was great too. The salsa is great. Amazing service. Enjoyed a very nice meal as Azteca in South Milwaukee. 3 of us ate dinner. Service was very wonderful and everyone including the young man who seated us , checked in if everything was going all right with the food and if we needed anything-- napkins or water etc. --very kind. The food was good. Prices are average for the dinners. Pretty much typical to what you find at other restaurants price wise. The one thing that threw me off was that they wedge their doors open. Both doors-- so the outside is open to the inside. The weather was somewhat muggy and cool as it was mildly rainy and a bit windy-- and also any bugs/flys can fly in. I know some enjoy eating outside, and then these things are expected. But, when eating inside- I didn't enjoy the open doors. Overall-- it was a very good experience and so we have a 4 star review. You'd enjoy the food here. Everything we had had a lot of good flavor. Give them a try- it's a cute place with workers that smile and care. read more

Azteca is well known for their lunch buffet but as a vegetarian I haven't tried it. Their menu is pretty comparable to other Mexican restaurants but I must say their beans and rice are pretty decent. First time there I went the a la carte route and had a "custom" bean and cheese chimichanga. Pretty good. They also offer complimentary chips and salsa which seems like it should be a no brainer, but I've been to other places that charge for it. The next several times there I've always had the enchiladas suiza with cheese inside instead of meat. Again, very good. The green sauce is the best part. The house margarita is strong enough and tasty too. The staff is fairly nice, they also have coupons for bogo and percentages off if you go on their website. As a bonus, they tend to cater to the lunch crowd that needs to get back to work within an hour and they seem to do a good job of serving quickly. Nothing too fancy here, but if you want some yummy Mexican fare with a cozy environment it's a good place to try. read more

We ate at Azteca for the first time last night and the food was outstanding! Truly authentic Mexican with wonderful service and great margaritas. One of the highlights was the Cochinita pibil. Delicious stewed pork with a sweet and spicy flavor. We loved the variety of salsas that allowed you to top your chips or tacos with the heat level you desired. Everything was fresh and flavorful! The steak and lengua tacos were delicious as was the chile rellenos. We also had one of the best margaritas ever! Sadly did not take any pictures but would highly recommend Azteca! My family loves the variety of tacos available--my personal favorite being the traditional steak on flour tortilla adorned with cilantro and onion. My husband often gets the sizzling fajita platter, and we always start off with their delicious freshly made dipping chips with guacamole--fantastico! I also really love their shrimp ceviche. The taco truck sits right down the road from me but my dad and I were doing laundry out late Azteca was open till 9 which was awesome... the only thing is is I had chimi's my dad enchiladas. Stopped in for lunch around 2 PM on a Tuesday and was greeted and seated quickly by a very nice lady. Parking on the street was easy and free for 2 hours. The place is clean and orderly with attentive staff and it smells good inside. Chips and salsa appeared quickly as did the beer and ice tea I ordered. The menu looked great and I was craving a tamale and tacos. After hearing they make their own tamales that's what I ordered. 1 pork tamale, 1 chorizo taco, 1 pibil taco, rice and beans on the side. Food arrived 15 minutes later which told me they didn't have it sitting around but made it to order instead (always a good sign). The tacos were both excellent with strong traditional flavors and beautiful fresh tortillas. The masa in the tamale was flavored well with chicken stock I think. The pork inside the tamale was milder than I like but still very tender and good. I just prefer a little more heat or citrus or vinegar. All in all a solid trio and a lot of food. The rice and beans were pretty average - not bad - better than a lot of places but not amazing and that's fine with me. Overall I give it 5 stars for an authentic and pleasant Mexican meal in Milwaukee. I will come here again. read more

Was craving some Mexican and decided to stop by this place to try for the first time. Seen that it had some good reviews. Well, my kids and I absolutely loved it! The food was very authentic, tasty, and filling. Delicious is the word that comes to mind. The plates we ordered and tried - Enchiladas Suizas - a must! This plate was amazing Chille relleno and tamales- again delicious, soft melted queso cheese with authentic chili peppers. Rice and beans were fresh with so much flavor Shrimp with rice and bell peppers- grilled wonderfully They have a spicy lime sauce with the chips, definitely ask for it.
