This is a review for takeout only! I got the Al pastor burrito and it was absolutely delicious. It was really big and stuffed to the brim. The meat was tender and well marinated. It was also nice and warm so the cheese is well melted. The guac was a big serving and perfectly seasoned! The chips tasted like they were freshly fried. A little bit pricey but good quality tacos. The Al Pastor pork was a bit tougher than I'd like, but the pineapple and pork flavors melded together nicely inside their fresh tortilla. The shrimp taco almost tasted like shrimp salad with it's mayo style dressing. The shrimp was well executed and the overall combination of flavors was good. Came in today hoping I could buy a breakfast burrito but they don't serve them during weekdays. So I decided to buy a regular carnitas burrito. I grew up in Mexican household so my expectations are high. This was not a good burrito. First, I found a hair in it. So gross. Second, the carnitas was not even crispy. It was soggy and full of fat which I dislike! Ugh Third, when I called and told them I found a hair, no apology nothing. Just "ok I'll tell manager". I wish I could get my money back. I came in around 12 PM on a Saturday and they only had the breakfast menu available but honestly I wasn't mad at it. I tried the breakfast burrito and it was huge! It was filled with cheese, potatoes, eggs, and beans and once I put the hot sauce on top let me tell you... that did it for me! I'm hoping to try their carne asada or Al pastor tacos next weekend time I come but it will have to be after their breakfast. It seemed to end pretty late (~2 pm). My friends got the carne asada breakfast burrito and the bacon breakfast burrito and we're both impressed. All in all this is very good Mexican food with a super causal vibe. read more

The food here is excellent! It used to be Honest Toms then was bought by the chef. Limited seating is available since the pandemic. The food is made right in front. The pork carnitas were delicious. Some of the best ever! The pork is tender and flavorful with little pieces of pineapple. My husband loves the chicken burrito. It's stuffed with chicken, rice and beans. Finally, a good Mexican place in Philly! Coming from San Diego, I've been trying to find any Mexican food that was decent, let alone good, and have come up unsuccessful until I tried Tacotacomexican! This is my second visit and I was pleasantly surprised compared to the first. I got the Al Pastor Burrito and it was pretty good! The meat had lots of flavor and the pineapple brought a little sweet and tart. I thought the burrito was very compact which I thought was funny, but the serving size for the price is decent. Definitely was filling! Although I don't adore the addition of beans and rice (traditionally, it's just the meat w/ maybe pico, guac, salsa, etc.), I'll let it slide this time. I called in to order and walked in about 20 minutes later with it ready. I only wish the service was a bit more polite over the phone and in-person as well as them possibly providing a wait time. read more

The surroundings are no frills, there are a few tables if you wanted to dine in, but I'm ok with that because their burritos are exactly what I need. They're a good size/filling but not overstuffed and messy, lots of flavor, decently priced and the menu has a lot of variety (although I do find myself gravitating towards the same few options and my husband loves the al pastor). If I absolutely have to find a criticism (and I'm really racking my brain for something) I'd say their guacamole is just ok...not the greatest I've ever had...but not something for me to take off a star for. Service is quick and friendly, I love that I can run in and out...this is my go to burrito spot. read more

tl;dr this West Philly taqueria remains just as solid and reliable as ever I've been frequenting TacoTaco for upward of 7 years, way back to my freshman year of undergrad. The spot-formerly-known-as-Honest Tom's has changed its name, but not its tried-and-true method. You can't miss the funky rowhome with stacked stone and bright orange accents. Inside, the bright yellow walls and twinkle lights sharply contrast the dilapidated tile floor. The straightforward menu is chalked onto a wall, and it's as simple as selecting your preferred protein (with vegetarian and vegan options also available). Peer past the checkout counter in the back to see the busy kitchen in action. There is minimal indoor seating (on account of COVID), but there is a quaint outdoor area shared with adjacent businesses. Order in advance, and you can expect your food to be ready promptly. For takeout orders, make sure to ask specifically for the must-have sauces. Burritos are my go-to order, and my favorite protein is the well-marinated, pineapple-y Al Pastor. The burritos themselves are short, stout, and surprisingly dense: mine weighed in at well over a pound. The ingredients are mixed before packing them into the tortilla, so each bite hosts a relatively consistent ratio of components. The ingredients taste fresh and high-quality, but the overall flavor errs on the bland side without any add-ons (e.g., salsa, guac, sauces). The chips combos (with either guacamole or pico de gallo) are pricey, but the sizeable bag of sturdy chips and the large container of flavorful dip would alone make a hearty meal. TacoTaco is not the best nor the cheapest burrito option, even when limited to West Philly. However, the eats are remarkably consistent and never disappoint. I know the name says "taco," but for me the burritos are where it's at at TacoTacoMexican. The veggie burrito is probably my single favorite in all of Philadelphia (and I've been trying burritos all over the city since moving here 3 years ago). In addition to getting everything right on the perfect ratio of rice to beans to vegetables and spice, but the secret ingredient that makes this particular burrito sure to knock the socks off vegetarians and non-vegetarians alike is roasted brussel sprouts. Why doesn't every veggie burrito come filled with these delicious things, the way they're served here? Ok, maybe because this particular vegetable isn't particularly traditional for Mexican cuisine (at least in the context of burritos. And I will admit that if you're looking for traditional Mexican cooking, this probably isn't your place. But if you're looking for ridiculously delicious vegetarian burritos (my partner is partial to the walnut biff) look no further. From the looks of other reviews here, their meat options and tacos are pretty fantastic too. And for the price, the burritos are huge. This is a great little hole in the wall in west philly. I think I have been in this restaurant once before but under a difference name. We came here as a vegetarian and a vegan and there were plenty of options and it is so cheap. Two tacos for $7! I ordered the veggie tacos and still felt hungry so I split an order of the walnut (fake beef) tacos with a friend. If I came back, I would definitely just get the walnut tacos as they felt more filling. My friend also got the sweet potato tacos that also sounded good. The veggie tacos were fine but they had chickpeas in them which I found to be a little weird for a taco place. I assumed they would be like fajita veggies but it was not like that. If you don't eat meat definitely get the walnut and sweet potato tacos. They had free water and took my credit card. Can't wait to come back! read more

I loved Honest Tom's and now I'm a fan of Tacotacomexican! I believe the restaurant is now run by former employees from Honest Tom's. Their currently offering pickup and delivery. Their service is extremely fast too. I called ahead of time and they told me my order would be ready in 10 minutes. Note that on Saturdays and Sundays, they only serve their breakfast burritos and tacos until 2pm. I got the Al Pastor Burrito ($10) and it was unbelievably filling. Their items are on the pricier side, but the burrito was so packed I think it weighed a few pounds. Plus it had so many fresh ingredients and tasted delicious! Tacotaco is amazing. I'm not sure what to say. I ordered 20 tacos, which were ready in 10 minutes. This is the perfect place to grab food for your picnic in Clark Park. Their tacos come in 2s at a very reasonable price. The tacos are loaded with meat and even have guacamole. Of my picnic group, fish tacos were voted the best, and while I agree the fish ones are awesome, the chicken tacos are my personal favorite. As for quantity, most people will be very satisfied with 2 tacos of any kind. A super hungry individual may be able to eat 4, but it would be quite a feat. I recommend for two hungry people, get a double of whatever your favorite is and split an order of your second favorite or a try a new one. Tacotaco apparently has breakfast burritos at 10 am on weekends and I'm fairly certain I'll be back tomorrow at 10 am. read more

I loved Honest Tom's. I loved the food and all that Tom stood for. I also appreciate that the folks who own this restaurant now, which is Tacotacomexican are the people who worked with Tom, putting out all of that delicious food. We had a very long day yesterday in which details are unimportant. However, the details that ARE important is that it's good to end long days (or most days) with a delicious burrito. That's where Tacotacomexican comes in. My kid had the steak burrito...big chunks of very well seasoned meat all encased in rice and beans and pico and cheese... so good. I had the al pastor which was delicious. The pop of sweet with deliciously seasoned pork was all I wanted. My kid has already decided what she is going to order the next time (which will be very soon). The staff was very kind, and very masked up and the food was prepared quickly. Today I enjoyed the Breakfast with Chorizo Sausage it was loaded with crumbled meat, egg, cubed potatoes, and the pineapple salsa (I'm addicted to that it's so good). Again service with a smile I'm guessing, under the mask. A kind gesture and wink by the cute guy at the counter, he's so pleasant. All the ingredients were fresh; the chorizo was excellent, spicy, and tender. This was a two-handed meal and enough to feed easily two hungry people.the service was fast. Bottom Line, Up Front: Amazing Mexican restaurant housed in a tiny little shop in West Philly. Huge portions & friendly staff. Best thing on their menu are their breakfast burritos. Almost every weekend I look forward to getting their breakfast burrito. I usually get bacon with all the toppings which include potatoes, egg, salsa, queso, beans, etc. It is SO DELICIOUS and probably the best breakfast burrito I have ever had. Every time I have guests visit me, I take take them here to get a breakfast burrito and every single person says the same thing: best one they have ever had. The only 2 negatives are 1. Sometimes the bacon one can get a little too salty. (But I've only noticed that once or twice), and 2. They only serve these on weekends until 1 or 2pm. The portion is very generous and I am usually very full after one burrito. Their nachos are also delicious. Again the portion is huge, but considering the price, I think the amount is reflected in what you pay. I get the chicken nachos as a full meal, and I ask for the queso on the side so the nachos don't get soggy as I take my time to eat it. The staff there are so friendly and accommodating.
