I want to start with an apology to Taco Via. The last time that I dined at one of your fine establishments was at the Metro North location around 1980 and at that time a close female friend worked there. I might have been given some significant discounts on food during her employment if you know what I mean?! Since the statute of limitations has expired and said female now lives in Florida, I think it's time to come clean some 45 years later, and yes we are still friends. In fact she was the first person that I sent photos of my weekend meal. I was actually surprised to see that Taco Via still existed and made a dash out to Overland Park on a soggy Sunday to see if the food lived up to what my memories hold. I ordered a Nacho w/ jalapeños, a Sancho, and "The Thing". The Nacho is one of the metro's simple pleasures - a corn tortilla covered in melted cheese with a spiral design of the best taco sauce in America and a splattering of diced jalapeños. Simple and simply irresistible. The Sancho is a messy beast with it's soft flour tortilla packed to the brim with everything that you would find in a burrito - taco meat, lettuce, cheese, tomato, and sauce. "The Thing" is a beautiful thing! It is basically a tostado topped with ground beef, onion sauce and a mountain of melty cheese. All three of these menu items would be 5 stars even if you were forced to eat them with Taco Bell sauce, but Taco Via has their own sauce that you can dispense from a pump at the drink station. I found myself sipping the sauce between bites and realized then that I must buy a container to take home with me. I plan on using liberal amounts of it on a taco salad at home tomorrow evening. I hope you forgive me and especially my female friend that forced those "discounted" tacos and sodas upon me Two Score and Five Years ago. With to-go sauce, meal, tax and tip, I spent $25+, I'm giving a well deserved 5 star review and I promise to come back and spend even more money... I hope this starts the reconciliation process, and the forgiveness of juvenile misdemeanors. read more

My boyfriend persuaded me to try Taco Villa, a local favorite. I chose the Mexican pizza. It had a big portion of beef between the tortillas, the tortillas were crispy as expected. I added some salsa to the beef which helped the blandness of the meat. Next time I will request it to be topped with jalapeños. This place is a good option for fast food Mexican food, prices are decent. Just need to make sure to add salsa or jalapeños the entrées. read more

This is the Taco Via you expect. I love their sauce. If you enjoy smooth sauce, you'll like it. If you are wanting something like a picante, this is not that. I love the nacho (tostada, sauce, cheddar cheese, with or without jalapeños), but I do wish the jalapeños were whole. These are chopped. Can't help it, I like what I like. I love the enchiladas. I get one beef, one cheese, and eat a little bite of both at the same time. They seem very understaffed, like most restaurants these days. I stood at the counter as I saw my food ready (it took awhile because they were very busy). I was very, very tempted to take 4 steps and grab it from the back counter so that I could eat it while it was hot. But I didn't because they are doing the best that they can. You will feel like you're back in the 80''s bc maybe you are! Taco Via is a Time Machine back to somewhat American style Mexican food. Lines can be long sometimes. Service is not always super upbeat but certainly nice enough. The food is great if you know what to order and expect what you see on the mostly visual menu. Shouldn't be nearly as much surprise as I see in other comments. If you have an open mind and can utilize a picture menu give it a shot. If you're one to pick apart every fee on your receipt while you wait for your number to be called... bring that paper! read more

I've always snubbed my nose at Taco Via but this weekend I attended a birthday party that had rented out their food truck. So I gave it a whirl. It was good. Nothing fancy. Like an upscale Taco Bell. The tacos were good. Just meat, cheese, lettuce, and some taco sauce. They were good sized. I also got a sancho which was basically a soft shell taco. I had one bite of it at the party but then saved it for later when I'd get hungry again. I ate the remainder when I was too drunk to really give a review but at the time it was We also got chips and cheese and that's exactly what it was. In all, I will no longer snub my nose at Taco Via. I've seen people talk about this place a lot lately and decided to try it out. Based on thr menu and pictures, I knew it wouldn't be the traditional Mexican restaurant experience nor would it be authentic Mexican...but I still wanted to give it a try. I decided to go with the cheese enchiladas and the popular nacho. The nacho is basically a tostada w/ cheese, taco sauce and peppers and that's exactly what it tasted like. Nothing special about the shell, cheese or peppers and the taco sauce was a miss for me. I saw somewhere that the taco sauce was award-winning, but it wasn't very good to me. I even got a cup to try it on its on and didn't care much for it. The cheese enchiladas actually weren't bad. The order came with 2 enchiladas and was around $5. The sauce that came with them was okay but nothing to write home about. I was on my way out the door when I decided to turn around and try the nacho cheese. I ordered the cheese and chips to-go, which also came with a cup of taco sauce. I'm used to chips coming in a paper bag, but these came in a small styrofoam bowl covered with plastic wrap. The cheese was a dark orange color rather than the bright yellow color I was expecting. I'm not sure what all was mixed in with the cheese, but it wasn't very good. It reminded me of a vegan cheese dip that I tried once. I think this is one of those places that people love because of the nostalgia more than the food. I ordered the combo platter. My "side salad" was literally just shredded lettuce. No, I'm not using "literally" for emphasis. I'm using it because that's what it was. Shredded iceberg lettuce with nothing. I can see from pictures here that other people get at least cheese and half a slice of tomato. Okay. Still pretty lame. The ground beef in the burrito and taco was dry and bland. The cheese topping the burrito and adhering to the paper plate was melted in a way that I have to assume it was microwaved. Holding up the taco was an upside down sauce cup crumpled to serve as a kickstand. Innovative I guess but I thought someone had put trash on my plate at first glance. Mexican. Think Taco John's, Taco Bell Mexican. The clientele are a huge demographic--from young kids to the elderly, so the appeal is broad. The Sancho is good, basically a soft taco rolled up. The Taco Burger is awesome--if you remember the Taco Bell Bell Burger, it's like that only bigger with a better bun. Tostada is also great; pretty sure you'll be happy with everything on the menu. And if you're lucky, you just might see Jason Sudeikis--this is a favorite spot when he's in town. read more

Thanks Taco Bell back in the 1980s! The ingredients include real fresh meat and plenty of cheese. I've been coming here for many years, and the food is always delicious. I recommend the tacos, and the Sancho's are very good. The staff is the same staff that's been at this location for the past four years. The restaurant is very clean, especially the restrooms. This is a hard one to review... When I eat here it is for nostalgic purposes... what the 70's American thought that Mexican was... or at least that is my interpretation! The menu has changed very little over the years and I suppose that is a good thing. I can still get the one thing here that I really enjoy and get pretty much every time I attend. The ever popular and never really heard of Taco Dog! Yes folks that is right... you can get a plum "I am sure not all beef" hot dog covered in the Taco Via taco meat! I used to think Taco Via was so good! I went there, ordered 2 nachos with chopped jalapeños on the side, and 2 tacos with a side of sour creme. The black gentleman taking mynorder was really nice! When my number was called. The gentleman said "Enjoy", that should've been a warning! My nacho was burnt, and the meat didn't taste fresh on the tacos. This was the worst experience at Taco Via!! I'm kind of blown away. I have always loved coming to Taco Via since I was a kid and there was one in Indian Springs mall. But after looking at my receipt and seeing a charge that said non cash charge of 3%. What blows me away is that the food is already way over priced for tacos but what a way to say thank you to a customer. And I get it it's only 3% but come on. Long time customer that's tired of dealing with apathetic/poorly informed/trained employees at this restaurant, as well as new policies of tip clamoring and a credit card surcharge. For several months I've been getting the special. The first time I ordered it they rang me up as a Senior (I'm 61) and have been ever since. Hey I'll take 10% off, which enables me to (better) tip the employees. Today when I reminded the lady that I am a senior she said that the discount is not available on the special and remarked "that's why they call it a special". So I walked out, went across the street to Fuzzy's (first time) and had a much better meal WITHOUT the tip and credit card surcharge, as well as the crummy attitude toward customers. read more

Floors could use a sweep at times. This Taco Via has onion sauce. It's an old school Taco via thing. So yummy on the combo burrito or the thing. Yes, they have a menu item called "the thing". I really wanted to love this Taco Via because it would be nice to have another option to Taco Bell. However, there were positives and negatives to the experience. The positives: quiet, clean and attractive dining area, pleasant staff and my taco burger. The taco burger was a good sized sandwich and tasty. The chips were a thicker kind of chip and okay. I liked the taco sauce okay too. My son also liked his burrito and said he'd do it again. The biggest negative (and to me it is a big one)...the cheese sauce! It tastes like low quality queso from a can mixed with tomato soup. The other negative was the wrapping skills of the burrito maker..it sort of fell apart because it was loosely wrapped. I think I will go back and try some other items but for now if I want fast food Mexican, I think I will keep running to the border! read more

But if you grew up within walking or biking distance of a Taco Via in the 70's like I did (Santa Fe in Olathe), it is in a class by itself for little more than nostalgia. The flavors haven't changed in almost 50 years and it will set you back about double what you'd pay Taco Bell. But you can only get a Sancho at Taco Via. When looking for a Mexican restaurant to go with a co-worker, we decided on Taco Via. I hadn't been in years so thought, why not? I remembered that I had a few friends who families LOVE this place, claim it is the absolute best Mexican food they have had. I have to be honest I have never understood their love for this place. I'll start by saying the food is pretty cheap and is overall fine. It tastes like the tacos I make at home, with your basic ingredients. The taco sauce is pretty good and definitely adds a needed kick to the food. There is no outdoor seating but I did notice that each time someone got up from a table there was someone cleaning and sanitizing it before another group could sit down. This place clearly has a following because it was busy when I was there during lunch time. When I crave Mexican food I want authentic flavorful food that I wouldn't make at home. This felt like I overpaid for the same taco ingredients when I do taco night at my house. I am not sure I would go back because I just think there are better places than here. read more
