I hate that I'm writing this review on 5 de Mayo of all days. I'd give the food here a 4, but customer service is below 0. Today was the last day I (and my entire office) eat from here. My office placed an order online for pickup today. I ordered tacos with NO CILANTRO, meaning no pico or guac. In the past, they have always substituted guacamole for a slice of avocado on top. I ordered it that way this time too. Of course the order was wrong, so I had to go back in person to get it fixed. The person I spoke to has no customer service skills. He said they didn't do it because they don't have avocado as a topping. I explained to him, they've always accommodated me in the past, and again he repeated the same thing. I told him, regardless of what your new policy is, I ordered it without cilantro and you put guac with cilantro on this. After they gave me the corrected food, he tells me "going forward, we will not do this for you again." WHAT?!?! I told him that I'm not asking for free food. I will be more than happy to pay for avocado as a topping if that's their new policy, and again I told them they have always been nice and accommodated me in the past. Then he said the price of avocados are too high so they will not be able to do that in the future. Then, he proceeds to ask me if it's an allergy. I told him no, but I dislike the taste and ordered my food today without it, regardless. I told them they should make it an option to add as a topping or make the guac without the cilantro for the people that dislike it, and he completely blew me off. Whatever, dude...don't be in the customer service business if you don't know how to talk to people. I just can't believe that one slice of avocado just lost the business of my entire team. These people are cheap asses! Avoid this place if you can. read more

The tacos were good and the shrimp quesadilla was great. I wanted a Chimichanga and do not like onions. I asked for it without but he said they are pre-made so I scratched that and went with 3 tacos - Barbacoa (excellent), chicken (not bad), and fish (excellent). I asked for no onions and no pico. While the guy was taking my order, he kept looking at his apple watch/texting and as you probably can guess - failed to enter: no onions, no pico. I drove home 15 minutes away to only realize this once I sat down to eat. After picking through and removing everything except the protein, I was able to enjoy the tacos which weren't bad. Side note: I was 1 of 3 customers in which two were waiting for their food so they weren't busy. Just wish I could have enjoyed my food without the taste of onions. I keep missing to try their Birria tacos... only served on tuesdays (why?). A competitor Tacos & Tequila just opened nearby and serve Birria everyday. There are a ton of "fast casual" options in Ashburn, but this one is a cut above the rest. The menu is uncomplicated but should have enough variety to accommodate most diet/allergy preferences if needed. Our food was ready fast, the staff was super friendly, and the indoor and outdoor seating was well-spaced. The guacamole is so flavorful, and don't skip the churros!! OMG! Such freshness in these tacos. Highly recommend the shrimp taco since they were sized enough to be chewed and didn't get muddled in with all the ingredients. Hand sanitizer is on every table inside but not outside, for good reason since I imagine it would grow legs. I just carried out a hand sanitizer though no problem and put back on an inside table when done. The elotes (corn) was TO DIE FOR I had no idea I would have enjoyed it as much as I did. The ladies next to us watched us eat it and asked us about it, we raved to them and they both got one, they ended up having the same amazed reaction we did. All fresh ingredients that truly felt fresh and didn't sit heavy in your stomach, unless you over eat, very easily to do since it's so good. For $3.00, the queso was a large portion but not that many chips, but with so much other food we didn't need more chips. I will return for sure. First visit - I tried 3 of the tacos (grilled chicken, fish and BBQ brisket). All were tasty but I really liked the BBQ. Also great was the elote (corn) - I had never had it before and it was terrific, as were the refried beans. More than enough for take home leftovers. Even better than the food was the service - the guys behind the counter were exceptionally helpful, even opening the door for me when I came in. My only minor complaint (and I'm basing my rating on the food and service only) was the woman's restroom - it needed a freshening and some deep cleaning. read more

My wife and I stopped in to give them a try and we're glad we did. The tacos are very good, especially for the NoVA 'burbs which suffer from a lack of good tacos. Also worth noting that the staff was very friendly and helpful. We both had the BBQ brisket and the steak tacos and I had a shrimp taco; all of them were really tasty. Taco Zocalo makes my mouth happy! It's impossible to have left overs because I can't stop eating. The food has always been flavorful without being too salty. My family grabs food there once or twice a month. I love all the burrito bowls and the guacamole is just right. Eat the churros first!! Really, you can't go wrong with whatever order. You will want to eat this delicious food. We only get the tacos, so I can't say much for the other menu items. It's always delivered hot and fresh. Now, they have a to-go dish that keeps the tacos separate and upright. What?! The veggie tacos are well thought through and include delicious cooked veggies. Most places plan veggie items as an after thought and sometimes just remove the meat (cough, bandit tacos). Not this place! For my plant-based friends get it without cheese and cream sauce and it will still be juicy enough. My husband gets three different types of meat and has tried each one by now. He loves all of them and keeps rotating. Which brings me back to the ever so delightful churros. This was our first time ordering them. Arrived warm! Crispy and sweet on the outside, soft and creamy on the inside with the right amount of Bavarian cream. We had family over at our house recently and contacted Taco Zocalo for catering services since we have visited this restaurant several times and have enjoyed their food. We chose to order tacos, chips, guacamole, salsa, rice, and beans after talking to the manager about the possible options. He was very friendly, responsive, and patient during the ordering process. The restaurant was also able to accommodate us on a busy day for them and deliver the food on time. Everything was absolutely delicious-we had lots of positive feedback from our family! Tried after hearsay reviews from friends and neighbors. Tried shrimp, chicken, steak and pork tacos. Like the fresh ingredients that they use as toppings very refreshing. After I insisted that I am not coming inside she walked the 6 feet to my car with my food. Spent close to $20 and she wouldn't give me more than 1 hot sauce unless I paid more. I read the poor service by Jon M. and I support his assertion that he and his guest were mistreated. I can only surmise the staff wanted to go home to their families given that it was a Sunday and two customers considered themselves privileged to hold them up from closing. As for the errors in the order, I have only visited 3 times and on 2 instances there were errors in our order, but nothing earth shattering. Sometimes, I just lower my expectations. The tacos are good, but I know I can cook it better. However, it's fine for me and my family and the cost is fair. This restaurant is just a step better than Taco Bell. The best taco comes from a food truck located in Manassas and frankly the best taco I ever had was in Cozumel, Mexico. This old lady back in 1988 had a taco stand by the beach, when Conzumel was still raw and not touristy. Maybe it was the beach, the time, the lady that made it a great taco. Food is great! I love the fish tacos, and the bowls are good to. Salsa is yummy and just the right amount of kick to it. The other week I ordered on Uber Eats and got fish tacos. For some reason Uber Eats requires you to pick a different meat for each taco. I'm a pescatarian, so I want three fish tacos. But I get ordered before and just wrote that I wanted fish tacos only in the notes. I also called and spoke to someone about it. Well, I got my food and I got two chicken tacos. Apparently when they print the order out it doesn't print any notes, and the person that prepares my order didn't get the message. I called the restaurant to let them know that I got the wrong order and I curing eat my food because I don't eat chicken. They were apologetic, but that doesn't really fix anything. However, a few minutes later they called me back. The manager or owner felt so bad, he had someone bring me my fish tacos. Yesterday's meal was a disaster! I arrived there in the late afternoon and at first was the only customer. A young woman was at the desk. I explained that I wanted the Birria. I told her I wanted 3 tacos with beef. She rings up the order and asks for $20. I question the cost and she tells me that I ordered 3 meals. I said, no and repeated the order. She argues with me for 5 minutes. I explain that I wanted 1 meal consisting of 3 tacos and that on a previous visit I was asked about the type of meat I wanted. She continues to argue and gets arrogant about it. Meanwhile the shop is filling up with people. When the meals start coming out of the kitchen (which is full of people) she places them on the table and there is no mention of what is in the order, or the order number or even what the item is. people begin to just walk up and take the meals and go. No one checks a thing. Then a man comes from the outside and starts complaining. she points to a package and he takes it to the outdoor seating area. Five minutes later he brings it back and starts complaining again. she then points at me and that same bag with the order and tells me it is my order. I refuse it and say no, that man had it and I don't know if he ate from it. She argues with me and tries to get me to take it. I say I want a new one. Not that one. She finally takes it into the kitchen then 3 mins later brings it back out and gives it to me. I ask for the manager and I'm told there is no manager on site. Worst experience ever. Other times I have been there there is knowledgable staff who run the operation efficiently and who treat the customers well.
