I've got to say I was super pleased with the vegetarian options available. I was expecting to come in and get a few bean tacos like normal, but saw they had a veggie option available for their tacos and burritos. The veggie mix was corn, poblano, and spinach. I decided to get the veggie burrito! The base was Spanish rice and black beans (yum), and then they asked what toppings I'd like to add. I was even more surprised that there was a ton of options. Lettuce, pickled cabbage, pico, guac, and a few more I didn't even recognize haha. Don't get me wrong, I love bean tacos, but I was happy to see more options available! It was super tasty and everything was super fresh! Small thing to pick on: When they cooked the veggies on the grill, they scraped the grill top of any meat, however it looked like they used the same utensil to stir the vegetables. I wish they had a section of the grill used only for veggies, and a utensil just for veggie to avoid some meat contamination. I may be a little more picky than other vegetarians. We enjoyed their meals several times and really like what we got but then our orders seemed to become inconsistent. The tacos weren't built with even portions and then this happened when I bit into a taco. It looks like it could be the tip of a plastic knife. Sent an email to them with the picture. Visiting from Detroit, I was thrilled to find this deserving 5-star Mexican joint on Yelp, 2 miles from my hotel in Downer's Grove. I ordered two things: A carnitas burrito and a Mexican Coca-Cola. The burrito had the crispy, greasy Carnitas that I remember from my favorite San Diego Mexican taqueria on the edge of Tijuana. Their salsas were vast and delicious. I settled on the orange-colored Medium salsa with a dash of the Verde (mild). I also added the house guacamole, house PICKLED ONIONS, black beans, rice, and a corn relish. Did I mention this burrito of homemade Mexican love is ONLY $5 after 5PM?! (Guac was extra) You haven't had real carnitas unless the grease is dripping down your fingers and it's got that salty, crispy crust on every piece! The ladies (mother and Daughter, maybe?!) were extremely nice and welcoming, I will definitely be back whenever I am in the area at my work HQ. If you're in the area, this place is worth the drive. By the way, the real deal Mexican Coca Cola was worth the 39g of added sugar to my diet. read more

Mid-afternoon, almost no one around, I was really hungry and wondered if the food would taste like it had been sitting around. How wrong I was!!! I ordered a chicken tingo burrito. Best darn burrito I've had in years. Everything was delicious. Loved the Horchata too. I actually waited a day to write this review because I was so hungry when I got the food I was worried just thought it was really good because I was starved. Four things: 1) I walked in to see the El Valiente loteria card by the bathroom 2) a brightly lit mural with a sugar skull 3) "You had me at Tacos" next to it and 4) Speedy Gonzales is in the mural saying "I love tacos" Sold. All signs pointed to yes here. I really like this place. Its bright, colorful, the food is delicious, and the staff is friendly. I ordered three tacos (Asada, Shrimp, and Veggie which is mushrooms, zucchini and onions) and my Mexican coke for $10. That's pretty decent! Then they tempt you with the Mexican candy by the register. (How dare you stock Duvalín.....if i start seeing Marzapanes its all over. Those two candies are my weakness!! Lol!) Zabiha-halal eater here! Chicken & lamb are the only zabiha-halal items on the menu, and from what I remember, the only two ways to get chicken are either grilled or chinga. When I went, there was only one person starting the orders and a second person adding the toppings/doing the cashier duties. This made the line move extremely slow. We waited almost 25 minutes in line before our orders were taken. I ordered three quesatacos (tortillas filled with cheese like a quesadilla that act as a base for the taco) in 3 different versions: chinga, battered fish, and grilled shrimp. Once the meat is added, you move onto the topping section like Chipotle where you choose your toppings. The topping selection was HUGE. Lots of salsas, sauces, pickled options, and other toppings. Overall, my favorite taco was the battered fish. SO SO SO good. I added chopped pineapple and chipotle mayo among other toppings. I'm a huge fish taco fan, so definitely getting that again. Chinga was okay. The taco became a bit soggy and the toppings were overflowing, even though I didn't add a lot. Shrimp was also good/flavorful, but not as good as the fried fish in my opinion. We also ordered a side of seasoned fries (huge!! - could definitely split between four people) and horchata (SOOO GOOD!!!). Overall, I was satisfied with part of my order, but I wish management would hire more people to speed up the process. If you go, get the fish and horchata! Thank me later. :) read more

This review is for the catering, previous review was for dining in. We had Tacochela cater my daughter's graduation party. People loved it and went up to our taco bar for second and third servings! It was so easy. We had an open house over the span of 5 hours so I popped the meats into crock pots and kept them on the low setting. I didn't have to do anything after we set it up. There was enough food for leftovers for a couple days after. It was packed well and Mallory was really wonderful to work with. My heart leapt to see lamb barbacoa, and toppings like nopales and pickled cabbage..... real deal Mexican flavors. If you are looking for the best tacos you've ever had in the yuppie west suburbs of Chicago, Tacochela stands alone. I've tried too many places out here, and while there is one I like prior to trying Tacochela, I don't think I will ever go back there now that I know I can get a barbacoa burrito con nopales y guacamole. I would really like this place more if the tortillas were heated before serving instead of pulled cold. My tacos were all cold! The meat and salsa has good flavor but something is wrong with using warming trays and the meat is cold! One time I got the carnitas right after they made them and they were great and hot but the two times after that I was not as lucky. My other major problem is they barely put any meat in the tacos and they charge $3... That's not cool. I'm going back to el burrito Mexicano. They may have a less impressive name than Tacochela but they know how to put a taco together. I think this place appeals to the suburban crowd who aren't familiar with Mexican food and think it's fun to eat what they dub authentic. Taquerias don't use warming trays or give chipotle style toppings. shame because they have so much potential. I ordered from here for the first time on DoorDash and confused is a place to start. I ordered the Queso and chips and on DD it stated a small order was 7.99. That seemed a little bit high, but not outrageous so I went for it. You guys, the container was so small I laughed out loud when I opened the bag. I will obviously include pics, but for 7.99 it was just a shock to see a side order dressing container. Yes, the chips are included in the total $7.99 price point- however, $5.99 for that size is also kind of bananas to me. There were plenty of notes on DD stating that "prices are cheaper on our site", which is also puzzling. I guess I don't understand the logic as DoorDash is also delivering your website orders (clearly stated as well on their site). And it was one of the oddest queso's I've ever tried (sour?) but not inedible. I mean I paid $8 for it, I wasn't not going to eat it. I've lived in DT Chicago for 15 years and have tried almost every kind of taco joint. Those past 15 years were spent looking for this place! The tacos are fresh, clean and amazingly flavorful. The only downside is that they're a bit small. Im not a big guy but I ordered 3 and left hungry. Realistically I think you need 5-6 tacos to get full and that'll run you around $25 which is pretty pricy to get full on tacos. So come here for some tasty bites of delicious flavors but don't come here hungry. read more

Hi everyone! For those of you who enjoy a good taco (or 7), I would highly recommend trying out Tacochela! It's a new restaurant that opened up on Ogden Ave, just West of Belmont. They have handmade tortillas and many options to choose from with regards to toppings and main filling (meat, veggies, shrimp, etc). The food is made GM right in front of you ( similar to the subway/ chipotle assembly line) so there's minimal wait for your food (which is great if you salivate at the sight of delicious eats). Overall-- Great food, great service! I truly hope this place stays at it has easily become one of the best spots locally and through the Chicagoland area for tacos! Ay Dios mío what a cool place! Everything is very colorful, beginning with the food. Excellent authentic salsas that as they said, all are made fresh. You can tell. Tacos were made in front of me. I got taste-deported back to MEXICO once I took a bite, just like I wanted!!!! Try the cinnamon infused Horchata with just the right amount of ICE. I can almost guarantee you will visit its sweet flavor prison again and again. You won't want to escape it. And lastly, talk about a Wall?? Check them all out. They are big, tall, and beautiful. I ordered the Horchata and it was not good at all. The texture was very thick, much like oatmeal; which isn't bad in itself. But there was no taste or flavor at all. I don't necessarily expect it to be loaded with sugar, but it tasted like I was drinking liquefied cardboard. The rice and beans smelled like they were burnt as well, and I couldn't finish them. I haven't yet ordered any of the entrees, but I am very likely not going to after this experience. read more
