I love Tacoma Boys and I especially love the locations in Tacoma and Lakewood. The same great quality in groceries is present here as well, no doubt about it. Out of all fairness not being familiar with the store to find items really wouldn't be fair to deduct stars on. I was in here maybe once or twice and as to be expected in an unfamiliar store you can't find the product you enjoy right away but on the flip side when the arrangement of the store is different you also find things you didn't previously see from your favorite locations. And in the case of Tacoma Boys that really isn't an exception. But however I didn't like the arrangement in a different regard as it seemed like there were a lot of blind corners with the aisles here making possible collisions with other customers a greater likelihood and I am not convinced many people can control their shopping carts any better than controlling their cars. Which brings up the factor of congestion which is noticeably increased due to the mall and various other shops and business around here increasing the traffic volume and congestion a great deal. The Tacoma and Lakewood locations don't have this trouble nearly as much. The two factors mentioned above is what contributes to my star deduction. But still if you are close to this location and you are willing to put up with the volume of traffic then this is still a good grocery store to go to. Best grocery market in Puyallup. Great selection of cheeses. The only place to get snake river waygu meats close by and cheap too for how good it is. Wonderful high quality produce. Seasonal veggies including chanterelle mushrooms in season. Unique selections of everything. I always wanted to drop by because I thought it was a farmers market like shop wthan emphasis on fresh fruit, and yes they are that. But they are also a foodie type place with jars of salsas, spreads, and the type of foods that would make for a nice picnic on the go. You should definitely stop by and get a nice weird bottle of wine to go with your cheese and a baguette, along with some tortilla chips, salsa, and a preserve for when your friends drop by and you don't want to cook, but you're certainly fine with cutting to make a decadent snack. The fruits we checked out, were alright. Many of the apples were starting to get soft spots and were dented. The prices for some of the veggies inside the store were also not so great with greens that looked wilted, and a bit pricey for the so-so quality. They had a small potato selection, and they were meh enough I passed on them. The store does have a lot of other sundries like wine, spices, difference sauces and seasonings though. I would double check the quality of the fruits and veggies before purchasing, but maybe we came on a day before fresh produce was supposed to be delivered. read more

Generally speaking, I have loved my interactions with employees. Today, that was not the case with Billie (sp?). I spent $66 on two bouquets of flowers. They were wrapped in cheap plastic and couldn't be presented this way to anyone. When I asked a question A's I was trying to trouble shoot regarding f the butcher might have some paper, she was not helpful at all and said we don't do flower wrapping here. Very disappointed in the level of service provided. As a higher end grocery market I would expect strong customer service. On last visit we interacted with four associates. None could be bothered to help us. We made a special trip to purchase fresh local strawberries. They did not have them. The stock they did have was dried and about to turn. When sharing this information the cashier said she could do nothing and the product guy ignored the conversation. Their website is still reflecting the same local strawberries from a farm they apparently don't even carry. When messaging the company they failed to validate our concern. They took no ownership of the poor customer service and made it clear that it was our error not theirs regarding the misinformation on their website. I absolutely love both Tacoma Boys locations. They have an amazing array of flowers and outdoor plants when you 1st walk up they were beautifully arranged to walk around and check everything out. I came here to pick up a couple of very specific ingredients for a salsat I was making and walked away with much more than I had anticipated however I didn't mind. I regret not stopping here the 100 times I've passed it before. It's amazing the selection they have for such a small store. The customer service was excellent. The meat, kobe sirloin steaks and roast were phenomenal. There is bison and venison in the freezer. I bought jams, peach syrup, a roasted red pepper dressing, gluten free crackers and keto chocolate/banana cereal. Loved them all! Fantastic selection of wines as well. Their beer selection is quite large and there are so many delicious treats hidden through out the store that I never stick to the list - I have to do lots of impulse buying. Sometimes they're not the best price wise so it's good to keep an eye on things and be prepared to stop by at another store. The fresh fruit and vegetables that sit outside the market looks amazing. It sorta like going to a Traders Joes but so much better. They have a great seafood and meat section. Selling food that has a sell by date of October of 2012 in January of 2019 is such bull. I went to buy artesanal foods for a charcuterie night at a friends house and I should have checked the dates on everything I bought because almost 30 dollars of products I purchased were past the sell by/best by/use by date by more than three months to almost 7 years. I get that some items like salt generally doesn't expire but flavored salt does have a sell by date for a reason. The anti-caking agents and the natural flavors it is infused with do have a spoilage date, even if salt generally does not. Selling chocolates and high end condiments that are past date seems to be the norm here as well, because when I went back to try to find replacements, literally every item they had from the brands I chose were WAY PAST their expiration/sell by date. It seems like they are trying to scam the customers to avoid waste by means of spoilage. If it was just for me, I might have risked it, if they products weren't so expensive, but you can't charge someone the full price of almost 15 dollars for finishing salt that expired 7 years ago. I get that it is hard to manage a specially grocery with so many products, but regular grocers have way more products and they have systems in place to prevent the frustration I am feeling right now. Tacoma Boys in South Hill are either really poor at inventory management or they are trying to scam their customers into buying expired products. Either way this poor business practice should stop. The reason I am writing this however, is that after calling several times and receiving no answer (even though I knew there was someone there) when I tried to return the products (the same day less than an hour later), the only person in the store at 6:30 am didn't know how to process a return?? Seriously, you can't just do math and give me back my 30 dollars since you can't replace the products I bought? I was so flabbergasted that I had driven back to the store (after noticing one expired item and then checking and finding 4 more) and was told I had to come back later for a simple cash return. The lack of professionalism and know-how was so jarring and frustrating that I am unsure if I will ever shop here again. I should have just driven the extra few miles and gone to a better managed and equally overpriced specialty grocery in Tacoma. These guys have their cool thing going, and I hate to confess it, but it took me years to figure it out. Before I was old enough to drive, I went back and forth path the 6th Ave location countless times, and had the vague idea that they were good for Christmas trees. For years I made no effort to learn anything else, but now I love pretty much all their locations. We can talk about South Hill traffic for a second: it sucks. Try not to come here during prime time. Even if TB isn't busy, the roads are. Worth it, though, if you must (and have patience). Once you're here, well, in wintertime, they ARE good for Christmas trees. I didn't look at prices but the selection looked really nice. They have cut flowers. Fresh produce. Millions of interesting specialty items--that's where they shine; pastas, sauces, interesting ingredients and spreads and stuff. All kinds of stuff most supermarkets don't have, prices are okay-ish for cool stuff but not really steals. Lots of good beer and wine. I don't believe they stock much fresh meat, but pretty much everything else you need from a cool, adventurous grocer is here. I always raid their beer shelves, and find cool stuff--if you really know what you're looking at, some of the stuff is exceptional. Great candy selection, too. The layout is super tight. You often have to back up to let people through an aisle, because there's barely room for one. But for the right shopping list, this place is really tough to beat. read more

I love. . . The grocery where you go to get all the fun stuff. Late last night visited to stock our hotel room with snacks. Front and center upon entry was the fruit tent. Awesome! We grabbed delicious Rainier cherries (what else when in NW Wash?), juicy strawberries, peaches and apples for the room. And then . . . We found the beer selection. Particularly their large bottle selection was sublime. Grabbed a gourmet chocolate bar (admired the local ice cream at the front--we will return!), and were on our way. We were ably assisted by young, light-haired, bearded fellow--he walked us to a couple items. Good service. Be aware they don't have all the supermarket staples: I.e., no diapers for the kiddo. I always love supporting local business, especially when I'm allowed to bring my furry 4-legged child with me. The produce here is always fresh, and very seasonal. The prices are very reasonable, and the selection is never lacking. They have a great meat department, and the butchers are super friendly. I highly recommend their double hickory smoked bacon, as well as the Kobe meats. There's also seafood, ground meats, marinated and seasoned meats as well as sausages to name a FEW of the items they have in here. Oh, they also carry Bavarian meats jerky and landjager, which I also recommend. They have a vast array of wines and beers, as well as carrying fresh and delicious salsas and hummus. They always have a tub of chips for sampling, which you'll find right behind you if you're standing there staring at the dips. Tacoma Boys is always our first choice for steaks and meats, the quality is leaps and bounds greater than anything you'll find at the supermarket and for the same price or cheaper at Tacoma Boys. While some items are higher priced, it is a specialty shop (open 24hrs!) keep in mind their main staple is the "farmers market" items. Don't forget that they also have their own in-house fudge concoctions by the front registers, local olive oils for sale as well as flax chips and churro nuggets. Mmmm churro nuggets. We bought our flocked Christmas tree here this year and went inside to look around and I was shocked by all of the unique food variety's in the store. This time was my first grocery shopping experience at Tacoma Boys. Funny thing is, I have known about this Tacoma Boys location for as long as I lived in Puyallup which is roughly 10 years. That's isn't the funny part yet. Today, I went to church and my friend decided to ask me about my experience at Tacoma Boys... he thought it was a burger joint! Before he told me that, here I was, talking about my experience which went a little like this: "The place is really cool! There are so many fresh fruits and vegetables, many many many different types of wines [I don't even know which one to choose], and different oils and jams and just TONS of edibles". I felt like it was nowhere close to Walmart where you just go in without a grocery shopping list and start browsing and putting things in your cart that you feel like eating. But here at Tacoma Boys, I think next time, I need to bring a list of ingredients. Usually, when I go grocery shopping, I used to buy lots of processed junk... not anymore (: I tend to look for fruits to munch on and vegetables to snack on. Aside from snacking, I obviously need ingredients for making meals. Uh yea, I had no intentions of what I am going to make for that morning, afternoon, or night. So I left with a pack of blueberries, orange marmalade jam [tastes strongly like alcohol] and a couple broccoli heads. I do have to give a minus for the blueberries. Here's a story though: I found the SAME brand blueberries at Walmart and who would have ever thought... the ones at Tacoma Boys would be so big and plump?! What. I was mind-blown. I did not think there could be two different sizes in the SAME brand... for the SAME price... Anyways, that is a pro to the Tacoma Boys but the con part was how many... were molding inside the one packet I bought. I made sure to look thoroughly too! We moved here about two years ago and wondered in on a whim. Let me tell you the best place in town for people who enjoy cooking! I'm not the most knowledgeable person when it comes to meat and what's the best cut. Where my knowledge ends, that is where Tacoma Boys steps in! My husband loves meat, and fish so we have started to only get our meat from here. It's always great quality and they'll even provide cooking instructions if you need them to! I have never had a bad experience here and will going back in today to grab some odds and ends. Thank you for the high quality product and excellent staff as well.
