Had an amazing time, stumbled upon here after a work event and we were starving. Service was great and we became friends with the team who works here, everyone was truly delightful! We tried all the tacos and got chips/guac and elote. Elote is always my fav and my go to, it was so good. They let us test the margs and they were SO GOOD. If you want to feel like you're on vacation then this is the perfect place for lunch!! The bright colors on the inside and open windows in the front make this the perfect spot on a warm day. I went for lunch on a Saturday and there were plently of tables, so I don't think a reservation is necessary. We were seated right away & our food came out very quick. I got a shrimp, seared fish & black bean and sweet potato taco. Although the tacos were small, 3 of them still filled me up. I liked the shrimp one the best, but they were honestly all food. The tortillas tasted very fresh & homemade. I also got a spicy margarita & loved it !!!!! I heard about this place when they opened up. A chain that originated in Mexico? Count me in. In Mexico, people use "combis" for their public transportation. They don't have no blue or red lines out there. The guys here bought a combi and used it as a taco truck. That's when you get "Tacombi." It's in a great location, and the dining area is very spacious. The service was great. They have plenty of staff to make sure your experience here is great. They have good tasting salsas on the table, pero la salsa no pica. If you want spicy salsas you may have to ask for them on the side. We ended up ordering their Baja Crispy Fish, Al Pastor and Carne Asada tacos. All the tacos tasted great, they were just a bit expensive for the size. Having just visited Baja California earlier in the summer, fish tacos from that region are truly special. So ordering them is a must anytime I see them on a menu. The fish tacos came with a perfectly fried beer battered cod, topped with poblano mayo, pickled cabbage and pico de gallo. The fish tasted fresh and had a very crispy outer and tender inside. Overall a very delicious and satisfying taco. The al pastor came with your traditional pineapple chunks and a very tasty marinade. The al pastor was cooked perfectly and very tender. I had higher hopes for the carne asada. It definitely had potential, especially with the grilled onions, and the chile toreado. It was ok, but maybe some more meat would of made this taco taste a little better Overall I was very satisfied with Tacombi and wouldn't hesitate returning. Only great things to say about this place! From the second we walked through the door the staff were so friendly! The environment here is perfect for a casual lunch or snack. I loved that all the tables had coat racks and hooks for purses and jackets. I ordered a fried fish taco, a shrimp taco, and a hibiscus auga fresca. While we were waiting for our food, they brought us chips and salsa. The chips were warm which was a nice touch. Our tacos came out a couple minutes later and we devoured them. The shrimp taco was flavorful, but the fried fish taco was my highlight. It was so incredibly delicious and the fish practically melted in my mouth. We were waiting outside in November and the host appears in the line with a stack of paper cups and a bottle of mezcal, proceeds to pour it dry. Tacos were delightful. I had a challenge as a keto eater. They don't carry a lettuce base and we were stumped. Solution! Shredded cabbage. The chicken taco was the standout. I rarely get chicken tacos because the chicken often served is dry and flavorless. So I was pleasantly surprised when the chicken was juicy and flavorful. Had a good spice seasoning marinade. Chips and guac were okay, guac tasted like a worse Chipotle quac. Not much flavor at all. Not a fan of the salsas they have. Very oily and not much flavor. Margs were mid, the watermelon one may be good to some folks but I wasn't much of a fan. The original was also okay, I've had better standard margs at my local Mexican spot. The patio seating looked like a vibe, but it was busy so we sat indoors which was just as great of an ambiance! The server was super quick to order our food. I appreciated the tables having the small pieces of paper to write down the quantities of each order and ordered al pastor and carne asada tacos along with rice and beans. Stumbled upon this open concept restaurant while exploring the West Loop. I cannot recommend this place enough. The place is adorable and each table had a small coatrack as it just got chilly in Chicago. The staff are so helpful and so friendly, even giving me a free bag of tortilla chips. The food is absolutely delicious and the tostadas and tortillas are so fresh. As a vegetarian, I got the avocado tostada and the huevos mexicana and it was the perfect meal along with guacamole. Tip: if you're getting a to go order, you order at the counter when you first walk in. If you're dining in, order via QR code at the table. Tasty tacos that hit the spot! Our group of 3 arrived here on a Friday night around 8:15pm. It was definitely full of patrons, but we were able to snag a table. Tables are first come first serve. We ordered via the QR code on the table and liked the fact that we could put in separate orders per person. The only downside to placing orders separately was that one order of food was brought to our table and for some reason we had to pick up the other order at the counter. Other than that the food came out relatively quickly. The food itself was fresh and hot! I ordered the beef bira and it was full of flavor. Others in my group ordered an assortment of tacos, quesadilla, rice & beans, and corn esquites. The sides are surprisingly big and shareable (at least for 3 people)! I visited Tacombi a few weeks ago with my buddy on a Wednesday night around 7pm with no wait. I read on Eater that the El Califa de Leon Michelin star chef visited Tacombi as a popup. Really cool vibes on the inside as it's fresh and colorful; however, the seats were not the comfiest. There is a pen and paper at the tables and you order exactly like an AYCE sushi restaurant. We started off with margaritas, which were solid, and I ordered a chicken quesadilla and Al Pastor, Steak, and Baja Fish tacos. The quesadilla was the best item and the best value as there was plenty of chicken and the portion size was bigger. Definitely a different style quesadilla as they don't fold the tortilla. So I am guessing that is for the gram... The Baja Fish taco was pretty good as it had the most protein, but the Steak and Al Pastor tacos were mid to bad. They did not much flavor as the meat was way overcooked and there was not that much meat. I did think that the tacos were authentic so that is a plus. Tacos were ok, just nothing spectacular. Unfortunately, they were out of the Beef Birria tacos, which probably would have been their best option. Salsas were solid and not overly spicy. Tortillas were fresh, which is another plus! Prices are average/expensive as it's the West Loop (NYC based) and the tacos are average sized. $5-$7/taco and $10 for the quesadilla. Margarita was $14 so average price of cocktails in Chicago. The quesadilla was bigger than your typical app sized quesadilla and I thought it was worth the price. Food came out fast, but our waitress was bad. My buddy asked her for limes, which she completely ignored. We asked for forks and she never brought them so I went up and got some. Essentially Tacombi is Nando's Chicken from a service standpoint and they ask for a full service tip. Also, I noticed that they had a huge staff and many of them were just standing around. I am sure that they would have needed it for the popup so that was probably the reason why, but it wasn't busy whatsoever during a prime dining time. Maybe cut labor costs and the tacos could be a little cheaper. Overall, if you don't mind overpriced mid food with cool vibes in the West Loop, then Tacombi is for you. Tacombi sums up the West Loop perfectly and it fits in well (mid food/cool vibes/instagramable/bad service). There are so many restaurants like this in the West Loop/Fulton Market and I think Tacombi is average at best. Tacombi is somewhat corporate as they have locations across the US. Definitely not a hole in the wall place, but there are a lot of better local taco places in Humbolt Park/Logan Square. TBF there are not many authentic taco places in the Fulton Market so this is a great business move for them and I see it performing well. I am glad that I tried Tacombi, but IMO it's not worth my money and I will probably only visit if I get dragged to it. read more

I LOVE this place! Super casual, and with an attentive staff, Tacombi is a fun spot to hang with friends and have authentic, highly tasty tacos. I had the spicy Margarita, which was delicious, and my friend ordered guac and chips. The waitress assured me the chips were gluten-free, and they were delicious thicker-cut, like they are in Mexico. The guac portion was large, and on the chunky side -- fresh and really yummy. We tried all the sauces on the table, and each had a distinct flavor -- we like them all. I ordered the shrimp and cheese taco, without the tortilla (celiac) and they did such a beautiful job, cooking the cheese like a frico, and wrapping the contents with it. The flavors were amazing! My companions had the beef barria ans fish tacos -- raved about them. The tacos are small, which is fun, because you can try a number of them before having your fill. Horrible experience. Spent 2 hours here and were still short 5 tacos before we decided to leave. A large party auto gratuity of 20% was attached even though no service was provided, save for the (very late) tacos being brought to our table. They were also disorganized and sloppily put together. Went for Taco Tuesday, which is supposed to be BOGO, but they only discount the cheapest tacos. This means that if you get 2 cheaper and 2 more expensive tacos, the 2 cheapest tacos are expensed. Make it make sense. The auto gratuity was also marked to the subtotal before applying the promotion, creating an effective tip rate of 50%. For (generously) mediocre service. The waiter said it happens often - if this is the case, why hasn't it been fixed yet? Is it so they can prey and profit on those who overlook this issue? When asked to fix it, they said it would take even more time. We bit the bullet and left at 9:30 for a 7:45 reservation. The (very late) tacos were great but it doesn't make up for this appalling experience. So bad that it inspired me to write my first restaurant review. Never coming back again. read more

Drove almost an hour because a friend recommended this place. My friend is not Mexican and this should have been a sign for me lol. Anyway the place itself was nice it reminded me of a taco restaurant's in Mexico City. Place was clean and staff were friendly. Ok so I don't recommend this place because the food was not what I excepted in tacos , first the serve the tacos in one thin corn tortilla and as soon as you try to it eat it it falls apart. The taste was not awful but it was just ok . Not worth the price. We also ordered micheladas and I never had a michelada taste so awful. Walked into this place after an eye doctor appointment with low expectations and wow was I dead wrong. Not only was the staff incredibly kind and helpful, but the music was great and the aroma of well seasoned and seared meat filled their huge dining hall. My partner and I already had dinner plans and it was late afternoon, but we decided to order a few things anyway as a "snack" lol. We ordered a carne asada quesadilla, shrimp, al pastor, and barria tacos. Everything came out pipping hot and delicious. My only complaint--and this is a very small one that won't stop me from visiting often--is that the quesadilla was served open like the tacos. That was a bit weird, but still delicious. Halfway through the meal we decided to get a drink too. My partner got a mezcal margarita (delicious) and I got the Sandía Santa (tequila, watermelon, lime) it was phenomenal. I was headed to J.P's next door for my weekly Focaccia when I noticed this taco spot. What kind of Mexican would I be if I didn't stop in to try at least one taco. I took a minute to check it out and really enjoyed the space, ambiance, and staff. They have tequila and the food smelled great. I really wanted to like this spot because of the ambiance, but when I seen the prices my knees buckled a little bit. $10 quesadillas and $5+ tacos is expensive, even for the area. I can't call it authentic Mexican food and then be charged gringo prices; it just don't seem right. I tried not to be so broke about it so I ordered a carne asada quesadilla and a pastor taco to give them a chance. I was hoping the portions would be on point for the price, but they weren't. I was super disappointed in the portions as the quesadilla was no bigger than the taco, and the taco wasn't even three bites. Now let me tell you about the three tiny bites that there were of the Carne asada quesadilla and of the pastor taco; they were undeniable delicious. They weren't as good as Rubi's or La Josie, but they were flavorful and put together well, I will give them that. IMO this spot is tailored towards the affluent who don't mind overpaying for average food just because it's in their neighborhood. Tacombi is arguably a step above velvet taco across the street and a couple steps below (but almost as expensive) as La Josie. Really fun really well decorated popup taco shop w many amazing little things like a personal coat and bag rack, a self service take out and to go corner, a hand washing station in addition to bathrooms that are uniquely designed, and a very cool open space that looks like it used to be a fire station. I love the decor. I love the atmosphere which is full of fun and life. I just don't love the watermelon margarita which didn't taste like it had watermelon and the tacos were very little food for the prices paid. We decided to visit Tacombi in Fulton Market because of all the hype on TikTok about it being an authentic Mexican cantina. Unfortunately, it did not live up to the expectations. The seating was extremely uncomfortable--Fonda-style chairs and tables--which I was somewhat okay with at first, thinking the food would make up for it. However, once the overpriced food arrived, I was shocked at how bland and tasteless it was. I honestly don't understand how people are willing to pay for this. This was a very disappointing experience, and I would never come back to this place. My friends and I stopped by for late dinner on Monday and we were really impressed with the ambiance. It is a semi outdoor space and definitely reminded me of spots in Miami or California. There are QR codes on the table that you can scan, order online, and the servers bring it to your table. I ordered the fish tacos and al pastor tacos. I thought both were alright. The fish did not have a lot of flavor to it, so had to add more salsa. The al pastor was pretty good, but thought it was a little dry. I paid about $20 for 2 tacos and a diet coke.
