I've been to this restaurant 3-4 times and it's always been underwhelming. The rice is white rice and not yellow/ saffron rice, not to mention very dry; maybe they are being cost conscious using white rice. The fish used for the tacos lacks flavor, it's masked by the sauce . t least season the batter. The limes accompanying the shrimp, and fish tacos were like the Sahara desert... literally just one drop of lime juice. The best thing was the spicy margarita and even that was average. This is true chain restaurant overpriced Mexican food. If you find yourself in Time Square, try Los Tacos No.1 instead. I'm sure operating a restaurant comes with its challenges, but listen to the feedback of the people. read more

My daughter and I met up for a quick after work bite. I had previously visited the location near Atlantic Center and wanted to give this location a try. Space is huge stretching all the way back of the property with space to eat inside or the backyard. Your pick. Inside the decor boasts baskets of fresh fruits and cultural sodas. The staff is very welcoming and moves at an appropriate pace. The customer service was top tier with the waiter and manager constantly checking on guests to ensure they were ok. We had guac and chips for starters. Give us fresh with the right amount of kick. Personally I prefer table side guac from a hot stone mortar but this can work. I went with the sautéd fish tacos and my daughter had the chicken enchilada. I added a cup of corn esquires which is Mexican street corn with fresh grated cheese and seasoning. OMG! So freaking good. Both of us had the hibiscus drink which we chose thinking it would be refreshing but it had a kick that not even the agave hey borough on the side could tame so I'll next time. Joined the Tacombi Taco Taco Club, which is an automatic membership if you enjoy Taco Tuesdays. Every Tues they have a buy one get one taco deal that should NOT be slept on. My Queens friend was out of town working, but I still enjoyed two Baja crispy fish tacos and a Lupita Lime soda during a fun happy hour run. Three salsas/hot sauces accompany every table. I went here today with my sister for a lunch date. The restaurant is very casual with modest furniture. We were allowed to pick our own seat and the waitress was attentive and quick. We were given complimentary tortilla chips and salsa. The menus are paper and you check what you want and hand it to the waitress. I had the avocado tostada and it was delicious! The beans , avocado and crema were plentiful. Next, we had the chicken and carne asada taco (one each). I didn't get to take a photo of the chicken taco as I ate it so quick haha, but it was my favorite of the two. Both tacos though were tasty but a bit bland and had the perfect balance of toppings to meat. The only thing I would say is the food in general is a bit salty for my liking. I love savory and salty , but it was just a bit like overkill. The hibiscus (Jamaica) drink was delicious. It came with a side of liquid sugar to flavor to my liking. It definitely gave me similar vibes to Los Tacos #1 in NYC. I love that spot! I ordered the chicken quesadilla, beef taco, shrimp taco, (2) fish taco, (2)horchata and watermelon drink. One thing I noticed is that it felt pricer than similar places. I get it, Austin Street rent must suck and the place was pretty big with some high ceilings. The vibe was really nice and the mini coat hanger at each table was a handy touch. Service was kind but a little slow to just getting some water as the some of the food came before the water. Chicken quesadilla was good, seasoned well. It lacked some toppings and I thought would be a quesadilla with a top and bottom tortilla but it some open faced style which coincidentally had to be folded into a taco. Beef taco was good but the beef could have been seasoned better. Shrimp was great and cooked well. Highlight was the cod fish taco. It was seasoned and cooked right on spot. Horchata was tasty maybe a bit watery. Watermelon drink was refreshing. All in all a good spot to check but honestly wouldn't go regularly as my order with tip was almost $100! A good friend is a big Tacombi fan and recommended it. I was catching up with another friend and was really excited about my experience here. They have a short but sweet menu with reasonable prices The food is antibiotic and hormone free. Happy Hour is Monday to Friday from 4-7 pm. I had the Sandia Santa's, tequila with fresh watermelon and lime for $9. It was refreshing and strong. We sat outside on a cool windy day. Our server was friendly and efficient. I shared the five star home made tortillas and guacamole. The black beans and rice side dish was cooked to perfection. I had one chicken taco with veggies, one of the best I ever had. Walking in I felt like I went back to time here on Austin Street. The bright white decor made me feel like I was walking into Johnny Rockets - a kitschy burger chain that FH thankfully exercised about a decade ago. Unfortunately Tacombi captures the kitsch, but in Mexican form. The seating here is pretty uncomfortable with little square backless chairs and stools. I was seated at a hightop when I stated I didnt have a preference. I ordered a watermelon aqua fresca which came delivered with a bottle of water as I looked over the menu. I decide on three tacos - al pastor, seared fish a la plancha, pollo yucateco. Each was small, flavorless and served barely warm to nearly cold. I asked for red and green salsa that added no flavor whatsoever. These overpriced tacos are not worth it - if you live in FH and you can't be bothered to travel a subway stop or two to nearby neighborhoods like Jackson Heights, Woodside, Corona, etc... for a more flavorful and better experience then come here and get what you deserve. read more

Im always in forest hills and finally decided to try it out. It said it opens at 11 am. So I went there at 11:15 am and still wasn't opened. So I ended not eating there that day. The following week after work, I decided to give it another shot. And now it One spot you need definitely need to try! The menu is limited but all of their food is fresh and flavorful. We ordered: -corn esquites - Al pastor tacos - Carne Asada - Pollo yucateco taco - Norteña - Gallo quesadillas -lupita piña & limón One order is one taco, so I'd recommend at least 2 tacos per person. Expensive to say the least for a taco. It's not my go to place but if I'm in the mood I'll go here. To me it's not really authentic Mexican food. The times I've dined in the service was good. This is Forest Hills and a beautiful afternoon so no reason why it would be so empty but I went against my better judgment and decided to give it a go and let's just be frank, I wasted money on 4 midget sized, overpriced, dry and flavorless tacos. 2 Al Pastor Tacos, 1 Carnitas Taco, and 1 Seared Fish Taco. Did I mention the tacos were barely warm at $5.00 each and the fish was $7.00? I found out the hard way why Tacombi was empty on a Friday evening but not again. There are way more authentic taco restaurants in nearby Corona and Jackson heights at a lesser price. In all, this was a dinner to forget but the staff was super nice and friendly. I was looking for a restaurant around 9pm in Forest Hills near Austin Street and I did not want to eat on the strip (aka: Aged, Narita, etc.). While walking to my happy place, Sephora, I noticed this restaurant. I will admit, I go to Corona quite often so, seeing tacos this expensive made me critical. But, I didn't want to judge before trying so, I went in. Food: (4/5) I ordered a lot of food. I ordered the following tacos: the al pastor, the sweet potato and bean taco (no cheese) , pollo taco, and carnitas. My friend ordered the baja fish and avocado tostada. To be honest, I would only go back for the sweet potato, avocado tostada, and baja fish. They were all moist, tasty, and definitely worth the price! The al pastor wasn't bad, I was elated they used fresh pineapple instead of canned type. However, the meat was on the dry side and I hoped they would chop up the pineapple instead giving me a wedge. The carnitas was cut into gyro like slices and it was quite tough. It was the most frustrating to eat. The pollo was okay but, still on the dry side. I added guacamole from my appetizer to help it go down. Service: (5/5) They service was great. Everyone is so nice and demonstrates great patience with those new to the cuisine. After placing my order, it came out quite quickly! They refilled our water pitcher (multiple times) without us asking which just shows how much attention they give to each table. All in all, I would go for the tacos I mentioned above. It is a very chill environment and a nice Friday night hangout. I am so happy with this addition to the area. I've dined in once, atmosphere is casual and the staff was lovely. Takeout is always quick and delicious. The food, while it is more on the pricey side it is fabulous. My favorite may be the Baja Crispy Fish taco; crispy succulent fish topped with some lovely slaw and sauce. I love me a fish taco and this is the best I have had in a very long time. The black bean and sweet potato taco was a surprising and delicious. Their burritos and quesadillas are both excellent. I think it's the tortillas they use that puts them over the top, don't get me wrong the flavors and ingredients are all wonderful, but the tortillas are not the heavy thick flour tortillas that you normally see, they light and delicate; turns out they are made with wheat flour and cassava and I am in love. All in all I'm a fan, I wish it wasn't so pricey, but you get what you pay for and I am fine with paying for deliciousness. Next time I need to get some pics of the food before digging in. read more

This is by far one of my favorite locations along with the original in lower Manhattan. When I come im always greeted by an employee off rip. I always feel welcomed here and the food comes out pretty quick! My favorites are the Birria tacos comes with 2 and the consome and its honestly more than enough. My second favorite is the chicken burrito so good & filling. I love their aguas frescas (fresh juices) mainly go for pineapple because its always hydrating. One thing that can improve is the portion of the mayo for the skites. They can either just have it mixed already because I feel like im often just having too much corn. Im not a fan of their micheladas at all. Im not sure why it was so dark and not a nice tomato juice color. I ordered one took a few sips and couldn't drink anymore. I didn't complain about it because it was a bottled beer but I wont order again. The margaritas were nice! read more

I've been keeping an eye on Tacombi for a while ever since they first started construction earlier this year. I've been to the UWS location and have enjoyed their food so it's nice to see another location open in Forest Hills. They are finally open for business but only takeout and delivery right now. Apparently, they are still waiting on some licenses before they can fully open for indoor dining. Visitors are giving a paper menu were you checkoff off items you want to order. I ordered two Baja Crispy Fish tacos ($6.50 each), one Avocado Tostada ($4.50) and one Gallo Quesadilla ($9). The food was quickly made and packaged. The whole transaction only took about ten minutes; super-efficient! The tacos were good but not spectacular. One of my favorite things to eat is Baja style fish tacos and the ones here were really good. The fish was very tasty, light and had a nice flaky texture. Unfortunately, they were also quite small. The Avocado Tostada also was very tasty. It had avocado spread, refried beans topped with queso fresco and pickled cabbage. All the ingredients tasted fresh and worked well together but again, the serving was so small. The Gallo Quesadilla was nice light dish. I liked the lightly crisped tortilla and melted cheese. It was even better topped with the dried chile salsa it came with. Overall, I was happy with the food, but I must point out, I was still slightly hungry afterwards. The steak was a bit dry but had good flavors. The fish had a bit too much batter for my liking. The pulled pork and chicken were absolutely delicious and tasted like it had been marinating all night. The corn tortillas the tacos came in were incredible. Just a slight crunch for a soft tortilla, just tick enough to hold the contents of the taco. Don't let it sit around too long after it's been served, it won't hold for that long. I recommend ordering only a couple of tacos at a time so they don't get soggy. Food I got the food to go and ordered three el pastor and elote off the cob. The Elote corn as a bit disappointing. The corn didn't taste as fresh and it was really small. I really liked how it was off the cob but it almost tastes as if it was can corn. The tacos were on the drier side and wish had more meat in them. It's finally open!! Food: I ordered the Baja crispy fish taco (good flavor sauce and texture) and the pollo yucateco (sort of bland but different flavor than expected). I was dissappointed there was no dessert. Price: tacos are not cheap and they are also small... Drinks are nothing special and same price as everywhere else. Whole meal two small tacos and 1 drink came to $27+ tip. Service: the place was pretty empty when I got there. The hostess at the entrance was very nice, friendly and welcoming. Once seated, my server left much to be desired. He had a bit of an attitude esp after I changed my mind and mentioned i didn't want spicy. He seemed annoyed. Ambiance: i love the decor of the space, very open and creative seating. I love the open kitchen and the coat rack next to each seat. I am skeptical about the size and height of the tables and chairs. They seem miniature and not suitable for groups. I am a small person and felt it was small seating even for me. My husband and I stopped in for lunch on a Sunday afternoon in February, and it felt like a little mini vacation. I try to stick to a pescatarian diet and this is a great place to do that and not feel like you're missing out. The inside is spacious and attractive, with a sunny, airy vibe you don't often find in Forest Hills. We shared the guacamole and chips, I had a sweet potato & black bean taco and a grilled fish taco and my husband had a steak burrito. We both left satisfied (my husband even took half of his burrito home) and everything was delicious. I'm not a taco expert by any means, but I've had a lot of good tacos in NY and LA and these were really good. Don't sleep on the sweet potato & black bean-my favorite!
