Tacoria is an awesome place to hang out with your friends and family. You can tell, the owner spend a fortune to renovate the back of the restaurant: swings, retractable roof, wall painting and more. My mouth is watering thinking about these tacos right now. This hits all the spots for a quick and gratifying meal with familiar friends or alone. Yummy? Check. Relatively quick? Check. But you could stay for longer if you wanted without anyone bothering you? Check. Lots of sauce options? Check. (the person at the front has sauces in addition to the ones in the dispensers they have across from where you pick up your order. I love a business that appreciates the power of sauce.) A clear and well-curated menu? Check. Relatively good prices? Check. I also really appreciate their strong vegan and vegetarian options. I got some of the tacos: Beyond Tacorizo - had the texture of real beef and was definitely flavorful, although super oily (real chorizo's kind of like that too, though, so I'm not mad. grab your napkins though) Rajas - delicious...the corn was roasted well and the poblanos were well-cooked Pollo Asado - yummy but could've been a bit juicier Brussel Sprouts - the chipotle aioli was very present and delicious but if you want a lot of the Brussel sprout taste (rare Brussel sprout lovers unite), maybe go for something else. I also could've done with a little less char but that's a preference. I also got the guac and they certainly give you your $1.50 worth. The tortillas were *chef's kiss* and I love the lime and radish they give you for each taco. No skimping on the lime juice here. The price was for the first three tacos with guac (excluding Brussel sprouts) was $12.52, which was pretty good. My friend got the Nutella Nachos which were good, but I personally wouldn't order them. The nachos were the only component that might've made this worth paying for and not just making at home yourself, but I would still choose to DIY it. (but this is based on one or two nachos so do with that what you will) The seating area is really casual but really pretty. They have two rope bench swings at the back which are really fun and great if you want pictures since the entire outdoor area in the back (outdoors with roofing) has lots of natural lighting. They're also just fun to sit on. I also liked that they had a sink to wash your hands so close to a lot of the seating and that they had takeout containers you could grab yourself for leftovers. The entire place seems to be a great place for any one in any group to come, and lots of Rutgers kids come here to eat. I'll come back and am looking forward to trying their Golden Avocado Taco. I hate to update a review in this way, but I was so disappointed in my meal recently. I ordered a chicken burrito and it was just bad. It was so bad that I didn't even finish it and I was pretty hungry. It tasted burnt almost, no flavor.. barely any meat. I'm not a huge fan of tacos. I'm picky because so many components go into assembling one. For me, all the flavor profiles has to knock my socks off. If one element is off, I will not enjoy it. With that being said...Tacoria does it right. Ordering is simple...just choose your dish (7 to choose from). On this day I chose the hand crafted tacos (3). Next step is choosing your protein. After picking Al Pastor I asked the manager to help me decide on another one. He suggested their Brussels Sprouts taco. I'm like...what??? That can't possibly work, can it? I also chose Pollo Tinga, a spicy pulled chicken with habanero. Everything is packaged perfectly. Presentation wise, it still looked great when I got it home. I fell in love as soon as I took my first bite of the Brussels sprouts taco! This will be without a doubt my go to whenever I dine here now. Although I chose two other different ones with my order, I wished that all three were the Brussels sprout. No complaints on the Al Pastor and Pollo Tinga but this one had my tastebuds wanting bite after bite. I couldn't get enough of it. So happy that the manager chose this for me. Thank you! One of my companions had their Pollo Tinga Mission Style Burrito. He said and I quote..."this is one of the best burritos I've had in awhile. The chicken is super juicy." I'm a sucker for talking apparitions, always have been. A stone's throw from Rutgers and Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, Tacoria's fast feeder Mexican fare is fresh and delicious especially when seasoned with a wide assortment of authentic sauces that make me glad there's a burn unit nearby. My Tacoria New Brunswick takeout experience was very similar the one I had had at their Jersey City location. Again, I ordered the same 3 taco varieties, which were all great. Their tacos were served in double corn tortillas, helping to catch the juicy goodness that oozed out with each bite. The Pollo Tinga variety included spicy, pulled chicken that had been marinaded in a zesty Habanero salsa. The meat was a bit dry, but flavorful. The Pollo Asado used a similar sauce, but had a hint of citrus. Its grilled chicken was tender, but a tad chewy. The Brussel Sprouts version was my overall favorite, as it was previously. The sprouts had been crisped in a tangy chipotle sauce and were topped with a creamy, chipotle aioli. Each taco was sprinkled with onions, cilantro, salsa, Cotija cheese, radish slices, and crema. I could have done with less cheese, but otherwise the toppings really added an enjoyable kick to each bite. Lastly, I ordered a side of Guacamole, which was creamy, flavorful, and had the ideal hint of onion without overwhelming my palate. I absolutely love tacoria! My recent go to has been the carne asada quesadilla, but it is def worth it to give everything on the menu a try to find your own favorites. When I'm trying to treat myself I'll order the dessert nachos hehe. The environment here is really lovely if you get the chance to sit in. The area can be a little tight if they are busy and you are waiting for food. While the staff is usually really kind I feel like orders can take a good amount of time sometimes. Tacoria is definitely one of the Mexican places I go back to whenever I'm in the area. Since Tacoria is in downtown Rutgers, I go here quite often whenever I'm craving a burrito bowl or Mexican street corn. The staff here are very friendly and there is both outdoor/indoor seating (not sure if indoor is opened during the pandemic though). I absolutely love their Golden Avocado burrito bowl. The avocado is fried, and it goes perfectly with the toppings and sauce. I have also tried their Mexican street corn which is super delicious. Although the portion size is a bit small for the price, I still love it nonetheless. They have a large selection of menu with options for vegetarians too. Overall, I love this place, and I always come back whenever I'm craving Mexican food. For the price, I would say the entrees are worth it. I have been to both the New Brunswick and Princeton locations. We usually order the large nachos to share with our toddler. The nachos themselves really make this dish. They stay perfectly crispy even covered in all of those yummy ingredients. We love the street corn with a slight kick and not overly cheesy. The aguas frescas are all worth a try. Totally in love with Tacoria. Our first time here, and definitely not the last. So funny, while on our way to this place, we found out they have another location in Princeton (recently opened I believe) which is so near to where we are, but we still wanted to check out the Brunswick location first. The store front is kinda small and can get tight with the line, while they are busy but once you get your food, there is ample outdoor seating space in the back, which they seem to call Garden seating. In winters this might not be so convenient though. We got some tacos, spicy chorizo, fried avocado and pulled chicken. The chorizo was the best, while the others were pretty good too. The nachos were really good and totally different from the nachos that you'd usually get at other restaurants. It was like a treasure bowl, with a bunch of yummy things hidden beneath the thick home style nachos, ready to dig in and unearth the deliciousness :) Special mention to the outdoor seating, it's beautiful with all the lights, graffiti and the arch like brick walls, a setting you'd least expect in an area surrounded with tall buildings. My friend and I both got the burrito bowls with golden avocado, which we both thoroughly enjoyed! The portion sizes were perfect and we were both able to finish our own bowls. They have an assortment of sauces that you can pick from depending on your spice tolerance and they all add a nice flavor kick to the dish. For dessert, we decided to get the nutella nachos. While the top layer was tasty and held true to the name of the treat, the bottom layers seemed to be missing the essential nutella. Seating indoors is limited but there's a beautiful outdoors patio area where you can enjoy your meal. The experience at Tacoria is similar to Chipotle but less of a chain atmosphere and better menu offerings. You can get tacos, burritos, bowls and bachos and the street corn with bunch of other mexican sides. I've eaten here a few times and food here is super fresh and fast. The service is top notch and if that's not enough its owned by the Rutgers Alumni. The food comes out quick and the price is well worth it. There are good vegetarian options as well, so you can't go wrong. The golden avocado burrito bowl is to die for, and the chips and guac are delicious. They have a nice outdoor patio seating area for when it's warm out but the indoor seating is a little limited so it may be crowded at times. Flavorful, yummy tacos in a hip spot on Easton Avenue - right off Rutgers campus. Perfect for a quick bite when in the area. The place is tiny with only about 3 tables inside (so not really a good place to eat in) though they do have a nice sized backyard garden for nice days. I went for lunch and the line was fairly long to order but moved along fairly fast. You can watch them put together your meal and I got my tacos within 5-10 mins. I got the three tacos (2 of the rajas, 1 golden avocado) for little under $9. They let you mix and match among proteins which is awesome. They are a bunch of protein options from the two veggie ones I tried to spicy versions of chicken and pork as well as the grilled versions of chicken, pork, and steak. For a sometime vegetarian, I was glad to have to have two choices of a veg-friendly option. Now this is a good TACO. These tacos are amazing and exactly what a taco should be. Now, it's completely enclosed and decorated - great for year-round dining! The murals, water fountain, white bricks, swing bench, and fairy string lights make the overall design presentable and notable. Super chill and hip vibes. FOOD: I ordered a pollo asada + al pastor burrito box. Choosing two protein options has an upcharge fee, which totaled it to be $11.38. The food tasted ordinary; I feel like the quality may have diminished over time. It didn't taste as authentic and homemade as the past. The food presentation used to be exciting, but this time, it didn't look like much effort was put into it. Maybe they were busy that day. We also got a side of the golden avocados ($2.50) because that's a unique thing about Tacoria. So creamy and crunchy!! They have 4 homemade sauces, and I enjoy the authentic taste of all of them. Yelp was scheduled to have an Official Yelp Event here earlier in the summer to promote their outdoor space, but it was canceled twice because of the rain. The owner was still nice enough to comp a Yelpie and his/her guest with a free entree. If it's your first time visiting, here are some tips. Parking on Easton Avenue is a pain. If you don't see any street parking, just park in the Gateway Garage on Wall Street by the train station and walk up to Easton. If not you might be hangry. They don't deliver, but you can order online and just pick up. Not sure if they could run your food at to you, but if you're with someone maybe you could just pull over on Easton and pick it up in un dos tres. Anyway, it's a small establishment, but plenty of outdoor charm and seating. Inside has great Dia de los muertos-esque paintings. Love it. You place your order with the guy or gal in front and they'll call your name when your food is ready. My favorite item is the Mission Style Burrito with golden avocado. The spices, beans, rice, avocado is a perfect blend of awesome. It's a fiesta in my boca and satiates my craving for Tex-Mex food. The first time I ate here, I had a golden avocado taco and cried my eyes out. (My dear dog Oscar had just died). The taco was good too. How did something this amazing not exist when I went to Rutgers? This may just seem like another little hole in the wall taco spot amongst many awesome New Brunswick restaurants, but it has one very crucial thing that makes it stand out. Walk through the very small interior and BOOM. Backyard patio...in New Brunswick. It's gigantic with at least 10 picnic tables and two swings. It really is a little oasis. It is also enclosed in bad weather, so you can enjoy it all year long. The interior, although small, has a few tables along the wall and can be very cozy. Both times I've been here, I got the salad with chicken and added guac. I may be a creature of habit, but it is so incredible. It comes with this incredible lime and pineapple dressing that they make in house. It's delicious and highly recommended. I got a side of the Mexican Street Corn as well and it was the perfect addition. The sauce on it was so flavorful I wish I had bread to dip in it. Try one of the special fountain drinks also. My favorites are the Guava Basil Fresca and the Horchata Fresca. The Guava drink was so refreshing while the Horchata was just incredibly delicious and sweet.
