Our host was friendly and always willing to help and make sure we were comfortable. I ordered the Carne Asade Fries for my visit. The plate was stacked with plenty of protein, with a mountain of Pico de gallo drizzled with fresh sour cream to top it off. Food was expensive and very bland. The environment inside is ok nothing special. I only are there once and I don't think I'll be returning. They have a nice spot in the back outside where they should add a couple of tables so people could eat back there. It would be a nice feature. It's it a little pricey for those who are on a budget, but it's better than other imitation American style Mexican restaurants, where the food is mediocre . So far, the food has been amazing. From the tacos to the gorditas to the tortas, wow wow wow. We have had the carne asada and al pastor in everything mentioned. It tastes so yummy. This is the one on Witthier and 22th. St. between Wilcox and Vail in Montebello. This particular restaurant is 1, if not the BEST Mexican food in the east side of L.A. The service is excellent, it's super clean, all the employees are very friendly, and the food "para chuparse los dedos". The place is "boxie", so there is a lot of echo going on, and it gets worse when it is full. They use those microphone/broken speaker systems, that instead of notifying the orders are ready, the horrible sound gets mixed up with the noise from the echoing people's conversations. We received the food quickly, but when it arrived the red sauce from the wet burrito was all over the plastic bag. Don Chente restaurant should have better packaging for delivering food. Nice people but-CARELESS & IRRESPONSIBLE Cook & staff. I ordered a gordita its was good dont get me wrong, but if finding a piece of hair of your food its gross at least u know it probably fell on food or something, it happens just return & other a new one or something... BUT! i found "FREAKIN KEY" on my gordita! what the heck!! ? that could have fell in from the cook or something, right? makes me think they are really careless in this restaurant... I called & made a complain all i got was manager will call u back, never happend. All i have to say I love don chente Food selection is great, but just watch out where u go eat....i know im not goin the one on firestone in DOWNEY, even it its walking distance to me. wow, only 1 review for this location. it deserves more! for a short time i lived in downey and with the NUMEROUS taco stands, trucks, shacks, and restaurants, i bothered to check this place out across from In and Out. i was not disappointed!~ they do have an amazing menu for a small side shack/stand. the food is top quality. first of all their special "Don Chente" taco has amazing pico de gallo and topped with some head cheese that seems to be their signature topping. my personal favorite is the Pambazo torta. mexican sausage bits and whatnot in a huge bun with red sauce. and yes, their Pozole is great. although i prefer not to deal with the bones in the soup tho. even their sides of pickled onions, jalapeno carrots and radishes are great. what sucks is getting out of this spot from the back parking lot. you cant make a left out and its right next to a big intersection that even then doesnt allow a u-turn. but nothing more the place can do about it. ive always taken out the food, but there is only outdoor seating available. read more

I have a passion for Mexican food, especially burritos! I had the chicken burrito with extra sour cream. The food portion is pretty good and it got me extremely full! the tortillas had a different texture, they seemed fresh not like the thin ones that tear at other places. They were a bit skimpy with the sour cream, definably not worth the extra I had to pay for it, next time I will have to ask for it on the side. Where do I start with this one. This place is excellent I love the food here I've been there more than 10 times and not once have I been disappointed. The micheladas are really good they are a must if you come. The salsa bar is great and convenient. Staff is friendly and fast with serving your food. I visited the location they have in Montebello and for some reason the food wasn't as good as it was here. I definitely recommend this place and will continue to visit. read more

This has been a usual spot for us that we have always enjoyed. This morning for breakfast we were highly dissapointed. One of our orders was Huevos Rancheros and we asked for red sauce. It came out with green sauce. We didn't mind informing them just to get a new plate with red sauce but we were just going to let it go and eat it with the green sauce but it was to sour. Before getting up to inform them, we than found a hair cooked into the tortilla when we tried to eat the plate. They did offer a refund which is fine but that situation took away from us having an enjoyable experience here in the future. Great example to start wearing hair nets while cooking. read more

The service had much to be desired. We ordered two wet burritos, only got one wet the other regular. I took it back for them to redo. Then we open up the wet burrito we did get and it was wrong. The redo burritos were wrong as well, so waited for them to make 3 different burritos. We ordered 3 smoothies and got two. They didn't provide me with utensils once the order was corrected. I didn't obtain a manager to at the least acknowledge the mistakes. I see now why they charge first for the food, that way when they butcher your order, they already have your money. read more

Their posole is the best i've had, outside of my Nana making it at home. I'm a sucker for it. I was feeling sick on Friday at work and i stopped by Don Chente on my way home and got a some. I eat the whole thing including sucking on the bones. I put the cabbage, radish, onions and chile in it. And of course fresh squeezed lemon on top, SSSSOOO amazing!! I have been eating here for a few years now, and thought it was time for a review. The food here is very good, across the board. We've most often had the tacos (amazingly simple and delicious!!) but have had other items as well. The molcajete was out of this world - variety and flavor galore. I can't leave out the salsa rating - the best - with about six different salsas at the salsa bar. If you haven't tried this place you are certainly missing out on authentic Mexican food. Came to Don Chente to enjoy their delicious Posole, but the ran out of limes. Which is the essential ingredient to accompany the Posole, now the waitress said they ran out, but if they did run out management should run and get limes. Solid 4 stars. Good is good, breakfast is the best. Plus they have different types of aguas. Sometimes we go there just to order the agua de "Lemon con chia", it's not sugary like most places. I've tried different items and no complaints on flavor. The only thing I don't like is how before (years ago) the Asada nachos use to have a lot more meat n it's a in it. I've lived in Downey practically all my life and tried this place out with my family for the first time. The setting is kind of nice, which is in between a taco truck and a restaurant. They have this glass in between you and the worker, which is very thick and large that prevents you from hearing whatever he/she says on the other end. We ordered the following: 1. Birria: The meat was good but the tomato base was pretty thick. 2. Nachos: Generous portion but cheap and not tasty cheese. 3. Burrito: Okay. 4. No refills on drinks, which was a major spoiler. 5. Did not give generous side stuff, such as lime, sauce, etc. The price was moderately okay. I will probably not go again. read more

I went there this morning and my friend and I had Menudo, which was delicious. I am just surprised that we were charge extra for hominy. I've never heard of such a thing.
