You choose your meat and the toppings and your other is ready in a few minutes. The employees don't seem to speak much English if at all but they seem very friendly. The restaurant has just a few tables so it looks like most people order to go. The tacos are street taco size but full of meat and toppings and of course flavor. It isn't as big compared to other Mexican places. But it is also less expensive. Because they're not busy, the ingredients aren't really as fresh as you'd want. Rice was dished out from a plastic bag. Beans from a plastic container. Doesn't appear that they would be hot. Only the asada looked like it would be hot from the metal container. There was a dead fly in the pineapple container. Pineapple and juice definitely from a can. Told the worker and she threw it away. The place was really warm. No A/C. Just a fan at the door with the door opened. Ended up eating the burrito. Hope I don't get sick or have the runs later. Was it worth the risk? IDK. Go back? Likely not. I'll stick to Real Taqueria. My husband and I just found our new go-to take out place! Got 8 tacos for around $15 - absolutely unbeatable. The take out service was incredibly fast and easy. The tacos were perfect for a late night snack - my favorite was the chicken. Beware the red sauce. I visited this place on Monday afternoon. The place was clean, but there were flies inside. The door was open, and the heat was unbearable. I ordered six carne asada tacos. The tortillas were half-cooked and cold. The meat was so thin that you couldn't see it or the rest of the ingredients. Honestly, I've never seen such horrible tacos. The tortillas were sweet and dry, the meat was cold, and there were just a few tiny pieces of cabbage. The service was fast and friendly, and the ordering kiosk was very helpful. However, I don't recommend it at all. We threw them in the trash after trying them. It was a small amount of money, but it hurt a lot. I will never come back. read more

Was so excited that Tacos Don Rafa now has a storefront very close to my house. They are known for being the taco cart that is open 365 days a year, down by where Sears used to be downtown. Such a great place to stop for some amazing tacos. The guy behind the counter suggested his mole as it was fresh and spicy. I am so glad I took his advice. I ordered a chicken mole taco and two al pastor tacos. Quick, fast, and friendly service, I can't wait to return! I have been going to the taco cart downtown for many years now, so I was excited to see they were coming in as a small restaurant. Tacos Don Rafa really does have the best street tacos! The restaurant is pretty small, there is only about 4-5 places to sit. You order your food and they make it right as you order, so it's just like the ordering process at the taco cart. I of course had to get the street tacos with carne asada. They really are the best! Unfortunately these tacos were a lot more oily than the ones at the taco cart. The salsa also had a different flavor than the one at the taco cart. I also noticed that the prices are a little more than the prices at the taco cart but it totally makes sense being that this is a restaurant. The taco cart and this restaurant are the same distance for me, so I'll probably just stick with going to the taco cart. I hope this restaurant does well, I'm really happy for them! I have walked past this place several times now so tonight I decided it was time to give this cute little place a shot. And I am glad I did. I walked in just before closing time and the staff was friendly and made suggestions since they could tell I had no idea what to order. I heard the words "chorizo burrito" I was hooked. I got it to go and enjoyed it when I arrived home. It was gigantic, fresh, and full of flavor. I can't wait to go back and try the other options. Go hungry, or plan on taking leftovers home. I went here about a year ago and it was good. I recently went back for some tacos and a quesadilla. The ingredients seem cheap which can be okay but everything lacks Mexican flair and flavor. They also use cheddar cheese in their quesadillas now which is a strange decision considering it was cheese glue by the time I sat down to eat. Definitely do not get their chicken. If you want good authentic Mexican food I unfortunately can't recommend this place anymore. Maybe their taco truck is better? read more

Kudos to this place for keeping prices low! $2 per taco! Asada is still my favorite. I ordered delivery. Loved how they pack taco bar items on top and provided one lime per taco (how it should be!). Probably the best Mexican food in the state of Utah. Whether you go to the downtown stand location or the new Millcreek brick & mortar spot, it's all delicious. I've tried almost everything on the menu now and nothing disappoints. Pastor, asada, and chicken (on the right day, can be a touch dry sometimes) are the favorites for me. Usually get tacos but you can't go wrong with a burrito or quesadilla (try a pastor quesadilla). The pico is fresh and tasty and the hot red salsa might be the best I've ever tried. Unbelievably good, first time I ate here was a religious experience. Service is quick, friendly, and helps keep my very limited Spanish skills sharp. Eat here. It's a local small business that's become a staple of Salt Lake City for very good reason. read more

WOW! This little taco shop was such a great find! It recently opened and we are so glad we chose it for dinner. I have alot to say about it as it was such a surprise. We were about to order our regular thai from chaiyo thai to go, but when we pulled in and saw a lone man sitting quietly in the empty taco shop my corazon said to give it a try. It's an adorable shop, clean, comfortable, quiet and decorated beautifully. The man behind the counter was friendly and seemed more than happy to prepare our orders. While we don't know much spanish we had no problem communicating and ordering, asking for some accompaniments and salsas on the side, all of which he was happy to quickly pack up for our togo. He was very conscious of what we wanted and made sure to ask if there were any preferences or omissions we wanted on our food. I wanted it all, my SO likes to keep it simple- he's missing out. We got all the chicken dishes available at the time, a bunch of chicken tacos, a chicken quesadilla and a chicken burrito. We were really impressed by the food. The cute tacos are the perfect little size, the price was phenomenal, the tortillas delicious and thin- but held up perfectly to the taco filling. The chicken was mixed with peppers and seasonings that made it so flavorful. Our chicken quesadilla was stuffed full and crisped perfectly, so flavorful. The chicken burrito was really impressive. Perfect proportions of cheese, flavorful chicken, rice and beans. The beans were particularly delicious tasting, and not too soft or smooshy and also not swimming in beany juice that usually make burritos soggy and wet. Our togo order held up for the drive home and NO soggy tortillas like you get with other places that put beans in their burritos. If you get burritos from other places you know they put TOO much rice and wet beans and it won't hold up being steamed on the ride home- not a problem with this taco shop! The 3 salsas have a good kick too, red hot salsa, a Verde and an avocado salsa. They also had jalapeños, cucumber, cabbage, cilantro/onion and pico to accompany. But the best thing about this place-besides the food were the prices! Our minds were blown that we got all of that food and friendly service for less than 20 bucks! Unheard of nowadays! And makes it easier to leave a generous tip. So when Real Taqueria is closed or too crowded you MUST head up the street to this shop. I love Real Taq. but the chicken at Don Rafa is so much more tender and tastier even if it is more simple it seems more traditional. This place is so delicious and so cheap! This is the same group as the much loved (famous) taco truck located at Sears in downtown Salt Lake. But this is a brick-and-mortar version with somewhere to sit! I'm afraid that no one knows about it because there's no visible sign from the street.
