It's just bland. Got the taco plate, the 'grilled' chicken looked boiled and had no flavor, the beef also didn't have any flavor. The only flavor I tasted was from the onions and cilantro on top and the lime I squeezed on it. And if you're eating there, you will smell like the food rest of the day. It's been a long time since I've been to Chunga's and I must have remembered it with extra nostalgia because my latest visit was a little disappointing. They are the OG for sure - they were around way before so many other popular taquerias popped up around the valley. But I was a little sad to see that it was dirty, full of flies because the doors were all opened (some A/C issues I guess), prices have gone up (understandable), and the service was sub-par. Their tacos are still good, but not the best. I like the al pastor best, but all the meats we ordered were very spicy (not advertised) and the kids with us couldn't enjoy them. The spiciness made the kids run for water but they told us there was no water except bottled water and that we could get sick if we had the tap water (?!) - what?! That was so confusing so we ordered Mexican bottled drinks. Also a little hard to enjoy your food when the tables and floors are sticky, trash is overflowing, and you're swatting flies the whole time. They forgot our churros and after we reminded them once, we had to remind them again before we finally got the order. Chungas! What a gem. This little place that's a little out of the way is worth seeking out. The Place. Chungas is great for a quick bite. You have quite a few options that are done pretty quick. The seating inside is a little limited, but it did look like there is seating outside. You could also take your food home and enjoy it there. The Food. I had the burrito and my friend had a taco salad. The burrito was huge and so tasty. My friend loved his salad too. I'd choose this place over any other fast mexican place in the city. the food is great, service is usually pretty quick, and as a vegan they have some great options, but after eating here a few times i realized they are charging my debit card extra credit surcharge fees without disclosing at all, i had to ask why i was charged more than the total on the receipt and the kid working just told me it was a credit card fee (i used debit.) which is actually pretty illegal. don't know how they've gotten away with this for so long and have t gotten in trouble, but yeah its against the law to charge extra card fees without disclosing at all. hope i can work it out with them and get my money back from all the times ive eaten there but if not ill definitely have to file a complaint with attorney general, or the consumer financial protection bureau. somehow the burrito i order is listed as 9.50 but i end up being charged almost $14, doesn't make sense. read more

Great tasting food! You order at the counter and pay right then, and they bring your food out to you. A little different than most Mexican Restaurants I've been to, but it totally worked. BUSY BUSY BUSY though! I ordered the chicken quesadilla on corn, I didn't know it was fried (which made it a little tricky to eat) but it had a great flavor to it. The carne asada nachos were baller too. But the real trick is in the ranch salsa--I WAS PRACTICALLY LICKING IT OUT OF THE CONTAINER. (Notice I had to cut my date out of the photo, there's no way he's going out with me after seeing me drunk that stuff like a ravenous wolf). The employees were great and very easy to talk with. They knew what they were doing and what to recommend, and they were quick to take our order and get it out to us! The only downside is the location. Hardly any parking, you have to park on the road or just in the grass behind someone else and hope you finish your meal first or else they're just stuck. We ate outside and leaves and seeds from the trees blew off the little roof and landed rock smack dab in our food. It got in my hair and clothes too, but I was definitely more concerned about the nachos I was helping my date finish (oh gosh, after talking through this, I think I've figured out why I'm still single...) but all-in-all, I'd go back! Both locations now open. This little taco place is amazing. It's been a while since I've found some mexican food this good. Based on the reviews, I ordered the Al Pastor meat on some tacos. It's pork, mixed with a hot and smoky sauce and it blew my mind. The tacos also had fresh, thinly sliced cilatro, chunky onions and some pico. The plate came with black beans and rice which were also top notch. My friends had enchiladas, a smothered burrito and we shared the chips and guac, which came with four diference salsas. I loved every one! The dark smoky one is spiiiicy, and I think it's also the sauce on the Al Pastor meat. LOVE! Will be going back ASAP. read more
