I really liked this place. The menu had a lot of taco options but since I don't eat beef, chicken or pork, I was disappointed to see no shrimp/fish or even a vegetariano option. Hey now, the server said they'd be happy to make some shrimp tacos! She brought me some complimentary chips and salsa. Three different bottles of salsa! Right up my alley! One delicious red, a delicious green, and a most delicious creamier style green. Oh they were great and between those chips and my three tacos, I squeezed a ton out of those bottles alternating between the three. The tacos then came and they were great and very fresh tasting. I almost wonder if they were crawfish tacos and not really shrimp. They looked and tasted more like crawfish I thought which was A-OK to me. Being the child of parents born and raised in New Orleans, I'm happy whenever I can get some crawfish in my mouth. I had put so much salsa on them though that it was a little hard to tell. The folks running the place were very laid back and nice and made me feel welcome. I think that this place is on par with Taqueria Jalisco downtown. Delightful place in a small strip mall across from the Toyota dealership in Chattanooga. The inside is surprisingly bright and cheerful, food was excellent. Had chorizo tacos and they were really good. Unlike other places, there is a lot of meat on these tacos, so be careful how many you order. Will be going back. read more

Excellent Mexican restaurant. Authentic and great menu of selections. Very reasonable price and great potions. The fajitas were great and could easily serve two. The chicken enchiladas were great. There are Many selections of beef, chicken, shrimp, and fish. The are plates, small plates, appetizers, tortas, tacos, etc. Everything is fresh. My native Imperial Valley, CA co-worker told me about this authentic Mexican restaurant on Lee Highway that makes delicious Chili Rellenos. She also mentioned that the tamales are excellant. I had to try it out. It was wonderful. I asked for mild salsa, got mild. I've had tamales from Champys and wondered why the fuss about these supposed good tamales. The chicken tamales at Tacos El Cunao are absolutely delicious. I'll order them again. The Chili Rellenos are cheese filled and so delicious with the salsa topping. I ordered the two Chili Rellenos, which comes with beans, rice and tortillas, and I also ordered 2 chicken tamales. It's enough food for two meals. I ordered 2 beef and 1 pork taco. They were delicious with onion, cilantro, and your choice of salsa. The seating was limited so I got it to go. The flavors were rich and I could taste the tacos an hour after I ate them. I want to try more of the menu. 4 stars due to small dining area and a little pricey for the atmosphere. read more

On my first visit I decided to stick with the basics. I got 3 tacos- pollo, barbacoa & al pastor. All 3 with onion & cilantro. They were all great! Fresh lime with each and I had an assortment of sauces for them, also all were delicious & fresh & home made. My favorite was al pastor. I can't wait to come back and try some other menu items. I love Mexican food, and love finding the smaller or obscure place that is not another cookie-cut, just off the interstate type of TexMex stop that all have the same menu, just stamped with a different name and perhaps different local advertisers... or one of those higher end sports-bar faddishly hipster kind of places that loves the word 'Street' in front of every dish. In Chattanooga, there are a few standouts (though not as many as a couple of years ago), and this place is one of them. BTW, I also love Menudo, and try it whenever it's offered... and today was the day to try it here! BAD MOVE!!! Though the alternate Anglo name of this dish is called TRIPE SOUP, and yes, I know Tripe and love it... occasionally a restaurant will use pigs feet for spicing it up. I get that. I'm from the South, and grew up with fatback, pigs feet, or even jowl to broaden the flavor of the dish, so THAT doesn't bother me... and yes, occasionally there may be a little piece of extra fat or fatty pork floating around... but you just picked it out easily and set it aside... or you ate it. Again, all fine and dandy. What I DON'T EXPECT is that my bowl of Menudo had not one... not Two... but THREE PIGS FEET in my bowl, and all the server brings is a soup spoon that is only the size of a standard spoon, and not the larger soup spoon most places bring you (remember this point). After a couple of bites of the soup, the broth of which was not bad, I swirled my Menudo around just a little to find and try a piece of Tripe. THAT was when I discovered the FIRST piece of blobby, bone laden flesh. WTF??? I removed this fatty blob and set it on a condiment plate, and couldn't believe what it was. There was no meat on this thing, just some fleshy fat substance and a large cut bone. The whole thing was about the size of a large tangerine. I decided I better check to make sure there were no more bones in this soup, and to my horror, I found two more globules just as big, both with bones, the smallest of which was easily a cubic inch. In volume size alone, the three pigs feet globular bodies took up perhaps 30 - 35% of the bowl. UNFORTUNATELY, I never got far enough to measure exactly. As I was removing the second globular pork part, it fell off my UNDERSIZED spoon and back into the bowl, where it proceeded to act like a weight challenged individual doing a cannonball in a mud pit... and being a soup made with lots of 'red' stuff, recolored and redesigned my shoes, pants, shirt, and jacket from solids to 'rojo' polka dots of many various sizes. At that point, I pushed the soup away... the one I had taken only three nips of the broth... and the meal was over. When the waitress finally came back to the table 15 minutes later, I told her what happened... told her this was NOT expected in a tripe soup... told her that the SPICING FLESH... ESPECIALLY THE BONEY SPICING FLESH should NOT be served to the customer... and MORE ESPECIALLY, THREE PIGS FEET WORTH... and at the very least when serving, they should WARN their customers of what's lurking in the depths of the Menudo, and provide either a knife and fork... or two forks... or even a darn slotted spoon bigger than these monstrous globs of dead pig flesh for helping ensure an uneventful extraction of the offending non-edibles!!! Oh, and THEN... I was charged FULL PRICE for this disaster. Seriously, this is a precautionary tale... it's best you know up front what you're REALLY getting with the Menudo at this establishment... and perhaps the other soups as well. It was tasty broth, indeed... not the best... but satisfactory. They lost a couple of long time customers though... 3 pigs feet in a single bowl of a soup that is made with a part of the animal that does NOT have BONES!!! AND... you charge me for the pleasure of wearing a good part of the soup!??! Thanks for listening. It IS good food... but there are certain things that can sour even good food forever... read more

I was so happy to have found this little gem. If you want authentic Mexican food.... THIS IS AUTHENTIC and the food was so very tasty. They showed up with chips and yummy salsa. I ordered horchata and the taco plate, 3 tacos with rice and beans and guacamole my choice was carnitas for the meat. The tacos are full of tasty pork, When the little place is full and you are the only gringo in the place, ya know it's gonna be great and I wasn't disappointed.
