    too good, ate first

This place is a very TJ style considering they do serve TJ style tacos. After a day in san diego zoo we found this place on google. It is a small trailer parked with a couple of bar seats. The cashier was very nice and gave us sauces on the side. He gave us both to taste which was very nice. The horchata could be a bit sweeter but it was very good. The tacos were amazing. The meat is not chewy it goes do very smooth. I do recommend you increase your buy by two tacos. They are small. I will definitely be returning back here when I am in San Diego Again!

Drove 25 minutes, ordered two suadero tortas (which were expensive, by the way), then headed back to my hotel. I opened the bag all excited to eat... and they gave me carnitas instead. I was so upset, but I was starving, so I ate them anyway. To make it even worse, they don't even have a phone number, so I couldn't call them.

I am used to having to drive a little bit closer to the border for tacos this good. And for $3.50 - they don't skimp on meat or toppings. This is a local gem I can't believe I don't see more people talking about it. My order was ready faster than if I had gone to a drive through any where. And again, the quality... SO good. I can't name another place nearby where I can fill up on food this good, for less than $10, and be on my way in like 15min. Parking is pretty easy to come by and there are even pull through spaces on GA street if you're a tourist and parallel parking isn't your thing. No judgement, make the trip. The workers here are so incredibly nice too. I saw one review complain they may have taken care of a regular a little faster than other customers and GOOD! As private equity makes it harder for local businesses to stay local and provide great service Im so glad places like this continue to operate to take care of the neighborhood/community. It makes me want to visit more often so I too can be part of the family. This is a really great local place. One of those that makes you thankful to live in (or visit) San Diego.

First timer was a great experience . Carne Asada - 5/5 Seasoned and cooked just right. Love how tender and flavorful it was. Fresh guacamole made it perfect. Adobada 5-5 Perfect all the way thru. Has a slight char to it making it slightly crispy and is perfect. No complaints. Birria 4.5/5 A little dry but salsa and lime fixes that. Has so much flavor and the tortillas make it perfect. Cabeza 4/5 Pretty good, nice and tender. Good flavor. Overall, everything was amazing. Service was also very welcoming. Seating is limited but nothing serious. Will be back VERY SOON. AMAZING experience.

    Adobado and Carne Asada tacos!

This review is going to be short and to the point. Tacos!!! Had them and they were fantastic. Looks like this is a permanent food truck install right on Park Boulevard. Unassuming but covering all your classic Mexican street food options. I had the adobado and carne asada tacos but while eating on patio, nearly 5-6 carne asada burrito orders were put in. I'll be back for that for sure!

Decent spot. I'd return. The suadero was a little saucy but still solid, 4/5. The asada was good too, 4/5, but there was bone in one of my tacos and I was told it came with avocado but none was put on it.

Great tj style tacos in university heights! The tacos were packed with meat. Salsa was delicious. Tacos were $3.50 each. The quesadillas were $6. Prices aren't really listed on the menu. Only outdoor seating, perfect for a warm summer day. English is not their first language and they prefer to speak in Spanish. Some basic spanish would help you here. Highly recommend if you're practicing Spanish speaking.

Tacos El Flaco is a food truck in what appears to be a permanent location. There is technically a little area where you can eat your food, but I'd highly recommend to just get it to-go. We ate here once just to try it and got it to-go another day and it was packaged well. I think the tacos here are pretty solid. We tried the carne asada, adobada, and pollo. The pollo was just ok and doesn't come with guacamole, but we liked the others. Adobada is flavorful and spicy. The horchata is huge lol. Service is quick and friendly. I hope they find continued success in this location.

My wife (and dog!) and I were walking the Seven Bridges Trail and were looking for a place to grab a quick snack. We turned a corner -- and voila! -- there was "Tacos el Flaco". (I put that name in quotes because the card given to me by the owner says "Taquizas El Flaco".) We ordered two carne asada tacos, a cheese quesadilla (it's small...taco-sized), and two sodas. They were served with a side plate that included radishes, two sauces, and some other items. It was all delicious! And the owner (I assume Flaco?) was extremely nice. He even gave us a sample of consomé he was making, and that was super tasty as well. I definitely recommend it!

wow this place hits! they're so generous with their meats and veggie portions in each taco. my highlight was the asada and suadero tacos. i really like how they add so much avocados. also they make your tacos fast!! they really focused on making each patties order before getting the next person. small seating area but good to eat it fresh ! will be back again to try their birria tacos

On my search for all small street taco place, I learned about Tacos El Flaco. We decided to give it a try and found it next a smoke shop at 4009 Park Blvd SD. We drove up and noticed some string lights illuminating a small white trailer with a "Coming Soon" sign. Ha ha its OPEN!! We walked up and noticed a small stand area/Deck in front of the trailer with a menu sign hanging below. We were the only people there and we approached the window and a solo man took our order. Inside I could see the Adobada meat slowly spinning on the spit. I noticed the heating/cooking element behind was not lit. The meat had no char. The man was super friendly and said he had been open for 4 weeks. We ordered, Adobada tacos, Asada tacos, and Birria tacos along with Horchata to drink. I noticed the Adobada was cut off the spit and cooked on the flat top for awhile before he served us. The Asada and Birria also cooked on flat top. After a decent wait, even though we were the only people here, we received our tacos. I understand that when you are a new restaurant with not as many customers, you cant cook the Adobada on the spit because it would overcook and be wasted. So waiting time for the food was not and issue. We were so ready to try them. They looked great. I love supporting small businesses and want them to succeed! Unfortunately, these tacos were just OK. Good enough to eat, yes. But is it anything to rave about? No, I wish I could say YES! The meat was average at best compared to other similar street taco places in SD. But the Horchata was outstanding!!! Seemed homemade and not from a package. If this was an established place, I would not be back and would not recommend it. But this is a new place, just opened and support new start up places. So I will wait before I come back to give this place time to get rolling w business before I come back. I do encourage anyone in the area looking for street tacos to please give this place a try!

I stopped by around noon on a Thursday and ordered the Carne Asada and Adobada tacos. Both were great, but the Adobada was my favorite--it had a nice kick to it and just the right amount of spice. Each taco came loaded with fresh guacamole and cost $3.50. I placed my order and had my food in under five minutes. There's plenty of seating in front of the truck, and the staff is really friendly. Parking can be a bit tricky, but they accept both cash and card.

He liked the Birria taco. I purchased a horchata for him, a small water bottle for myself. After our meal in the heat, we both wanted more water. The cashier said that the small water bottles were $3.90 each. It's no secret that San Diego has tacos in…read morespades and being so close to the border, you'd think that a quest to find the perfect taco would be as simple as rolling down to the nearest taqueria. Except, it's not quite that simple. Many beloved staples have gone downhill, while some newer spots that might boast things like a Michelin mention or multiple locations ranging from TJ to Vegas contain more hype and gristle than tender meat and substance. Enter Chula Tacos. Chula is, and always was, the type of place that makes you forget that you're not actually in Tijuana. While part of me misses their OG Market Street location, seeing them with brick-and-mortars feels hard-earned and well-deserved. This location on Palm in IB is relatively easy to access from the freeway, but parking can be tricky. You can safely assume that it will be busy and you will either have to be very lucky or be willing to find a spot on the street. Out of all the times I've been here, it's always been crowded enough that I've never been able to find a table inside, but I enjoy sitting out on the patio next to the ahumederos. The first thing that hits you walking through the door is how amazing everything smells. The queue to the cashier takes you near a window showing the kitchen where you can see the Chula Tacos team making fresh tortillas, slicing meat from the trompos, grilling up jalapenos, nopales, onions, labio, and tripa. For me, it's not so much a challenge to decide what I want, it's more a challenge to keep myself from ordering everything. My usual is four tacos: two asada, two al pastor (but I've heard that I should also try their world famous keka). The tacos though? Perfection. Every time, the asada is the juiciest and most tender I've ever eaten, the al pastor is succulent and flavorful, and no taco in front of me is long for the world. At $3.50 each, every one of them is absolutely loaded. Three would honestly fill me up, but I always want four. After getting burned by spots that ask around 75% more and deliver anywhere between 25-50% less, Chula Tacos feels like an absolute godsend of a Tijuana-style taqueria and I can't see any other contenders being my go-to. So, when I say "Tacos will fix me," what I mean nowadays is "Chula Tacos will fix me."

Every item we ordered was packed with delicious flavors and made fresh. The highlight of the menu is the Keka Taco. It is incredibly delicious, loaded with flavor, and so filling that it can easily satisfy even the biggest appetite. The only downside to this establishment is the limited parking, which can make picking up your order a bit challenging during busy times. However, the amazing food and generous portions more than make up for the parking inconvenience. If you're in the area, the Keka Taco is a must-try!

I picked a place off Google but when we landed there we were not comfortable stopping to park, so we looked again and decided to check out La Puerta not realizing it was in the Gaslight District. I am not a fan of the Gaslight District, which is why I am so mad!! I'm going to HAVE to go back to the Gaslight District!! The food was AMAZING!! I HIGHLY recommend the Potato Flautitas. It's the kind of dish I'm going to dream about, I'm salivating now just thinking about them. I also did the Pick 3 Street Tacos (and actually ordered a 4th). The Ranchero Shrimp and Grilled Veggie were top notch. The Conchinita was recommended by our waiter, and it was interesting, tasty but different. It could have used a little more pickled onion. The only one I would not recommend (shockingly, I thought it would be the easy pass) was the carne asada. It was too greasy. My husband ordered a carne asada quesadilla and said the same, it was too wet and soaked through the tortilla. But there were no many other delightful options, I would say just don't go traditional. But honestly my favorite thing on the plate was the side dish rajas con crema, seriously, that alone is going to drag me down to the Gaslight District. I'm even considering going to a Padres game just for the excuse. I'm salivating again! As for our waiter, Colin, he was fantastic. Very informative, made great suggestions and seemed genuinely pleased by our satisfaction. He was smiling the whole time, friendly and stayed very present. I highly recommend you get yourself through the door at La Puerta and sit down for a meal ASAP. (We ate the food so fast I forgot to take pictures.)
