I generally have very low expectations for Oregon Mexican food but this place exceeded my expectations by quite a bit. In fact it's one of the better taco joints I've been to in the state. The rice and beans were light, fluffy and fresh and the meats were extremely well seasoned and flavorful. The pollo in fact was delicious with a real smoky flavor. 10/10 will repeat. Came here only because of the Yelp 4.5 star rating. Yes, I enjoyed the 3 pollo tacos that were loaded with a generous portion of shredded chicken, diced onions, cilantro and lime. Each contained 2 3" corn tortillas and lime juices but no lime wedges. True street tacos at $2.00 each! Eating three was a good modest lunch portion and I didn't need any filler of rice and beans. The down side was the $3.00 coke! Made my light lunch $9.00 plus tip and that price put it over the top! I can't handle a $3.00 soda with no refills and refuse to give a good rating due to that. The food was good, not fantastic and I can't see the yelp rating as what it is for fast food and zero service. I have a feeling many friends of the restaurant stacked the reviews. I give Tacos El Machin 3.5 stars max. I do know good Mexican food and also consider value when there is no level of service added. It certainly was not present here! with a tip added @ $10.50 is certainly not a great meal and I rated it so. I am getting suspicious of many yelp ratings in smaller communities! I find that a lot of people working at small Mexican food joints don't really want to talk, but great customer service here. I ordered a cabeza, pastor and asada taco. He followed up with me to see how I liked the food, and I found it excellent. Here's why: The tacos were small, but the meat was cooked great. It tasted unique from other Mexican food restaurants I've been to. It didn't taste like I was sitting in a chain restaurant with the classic rice and beans slapped on the side. The spices stood out to me and were delicious. Extremely tender Carne asada in which I find it chewy at a lot of places. The meats were all very juicy and not dry at all. They cook with unique spices from a southern region of Mexico, using coffee beans to flavor some of their meats. Delicious quality tacos. No more traveling hours to get my favorite tacos!!!! This is not your typical Mexican restaurant. So don't be disappointed when there isn't refried beans and rice. This is fresh, small, soft corn tortilla, incredible meat, and top with salsas to-die-for tacos! There are other items and we have had them as well (hello Posolé). I appreciate the perfection of the tacos. And the fact I can get them right here in Albany! The owner, Noel, is top notch and deserves our loyalty and his success. It was nice to see other patrons coming in and I was enthusiastic about how our meal would turn out since there were customers and the reviews seemed great. Unfortunately it was underwhelming. We ordered 2 plates of 3 street tacos with rice and beans. The chicken and pork tacos were pretty bland. The steak asada tacos were decent. Verde and red sauce were generic out of the can, as well as the rice and beans. I was really look forward to authentic homemade flavor but they did not deliver. OH DIOS MIO!! Some very wonderful mexican food here at TEM, I loves me some spicy food even though my body doesnt. Just the cilantro had me sweating my ass off but thats probably because I'm a big pussy and don't often have this type of food. I ordered a steak & chicken quesadilla and 2 ground beef tacos, both of which were fucking awesome and very filling baby. I fully expected to shit my guts out inside of an hour after eating this delectable mexican food but hey that never happened so I was super dooper happy about that, and it means that they definitely cook things correctly here. I had planned on taking some pictures of my order but the food looked so god damn good I couldn't even get it back home before I had already tore open the bag and risked my life by eating a super messy taco while navigating in traffic. Went in and sat down for some tacos, which were bomb af, leaving extremely satisfied. HOWEVER, going and ordering four of the same tacos a few days later only to come home and find out they only gave me three. I was immensely upset about being ripped off like that. I definitely learned my lesson to check my shit before I leave the damn joint. I'd also like to add that I did indeed check the receipt and was charged for the exact amount I ordered. My boyfriend said that it was fine because I wanted to go back and demand my fourth taco,even though he could read all over my face that it wasn't UPDATE: went in and got my free tacos. The veggie burrito is the size of Popeye's arm! For 7 or 8 bucks this burrito is loaded with rice, beans, veggies and deliciousness of epic proportions. It's authentic - the condiment bar is loaded with radishes, peppers, and a crock pot with roasted onions. The condiments make a big dude weak at the knees; the burrito is already gargantuan - then I add the onions and radishes - oh, the peppers too. The real chore is getting this tube in my mouth - it's more reasonable to eat this 3 pounder with a fork on a plate - but I've learned to cram this burrito like a snake swallowing his meal. I happen to find this delicious spot by shear luck. I'm used to authentic Mexican foods- Pilsen area in Chicago and East Chicago for example. But I can say that the cabeza tacos at Tacos El Machin are hands down the best tacos I've ever had in my LIFE. The food here is incredible and reasonably priced. This place is great! I am seriously a sauce queen and this is BY FAR the best taqueria for that! They have a sauce bar and have about 8 different options. I tried them all! They were all amazing! A perfect range from mild to very spicy... Which I love!! They also have a crockpot of Carmelites onions and they have spicy pickled onions as well.... The Asada tacos & quesadillas are bomb too! They also have pretty good prices. It's definitely more of a quick stop taco shop than a restaurant... But if you are looking for a quick and very tasty meal you need to try this place :) Anyways... I recently moved to this small town and both the tacos and burritos are so delicious! Coming from the bay area and eating the authentic Mexican food in the Mission (located in San Francisco), this restaurant definitely meets my tastebuds expectations. I have tried the carne asada and al pastor tacos. These food truck style tacos are small but packed with lots of flavor. You cannot go wrong with ordering them. (I would recommend al pastor over the carne asada.) The meat is very juicy and tender. Not chewy at all. However, they are a bit pricey at $1.99. I also tried the carne asada burrito and it was delicious and it definitely made me full. The staff working the three times I have came are always very friendly and have great hospitality. Today, my interaction was with Noel (who I found out was the owner of this great establishment). Noel went out of his way to thoroughly explain the salsa bar. I told him that I'm hesitant to try spicy salsas but he suggested which would be best for my liking while explaining how each individual salsas are prepared. There are also baked beans and some grilled onions that can top off your tacos which are in two crock pots near the salsa bar. I was very impressed with the choices. Upon entering this establishment it is pretty spacey. About 8 booths against the perimeter of the restaurants walls and 4 tables and the salsa bar in the middle. Very roomy and not clustered at all. There are two TVs against the back wall that show sports channels the three times I came to this restaurant. Food is five stars. Staffing is five stars. Restaurants ambiance five stars. read more

I had the tacos - two asada, one chorizo - and they were amazing. They're also only $2 each. There's a fantastic salsa bar with a great variety of heat and flavor. We came here today specifically of the great reviews here on Yelp. My mom ordered two tacos, they were two of the smallest tacos we have ever seen. The only toppings that come with it is Cilantro and Onion. We asked to have cheese and lettuce added which they did (for $0.75 per taco, which we thought was a tad steep). I had a burrito which was ok, but nothing too special. Service was excellent and the food came out quickly and hot. Overall we were a bit disappointed and ended up getting a snack an hour or two later at DQ because of the small tacos. read more

Tacos El Machin, I love you. I spent the last 8 years in San Diego and needless to say I became extremely spoiled by AMAZING mexican food and fiery spice. After moving back to Albany I was sure I was doomed to suffer through terrible, underspiced, greasy mexican food whenever I got my cravings.... And then I found Tacos El Machin, possibly the most delicious street tacos I have ever eaten. Did I mention I'm a taco addict? They offer any delicious meat you can think of and they are good cuts of meat with excellent marinade. On top of that, the tortillas are always soft and warm. I was already sold on delicious and cheap tacos but probably the best part of this place is their insane salsa bar. They usually have 6 different salsas out, and different ones are rotated through. These salsas are far from boring. If you can't handle much spice either forgo the salsa or ask them which are mild. If you are like me and love the delicious torture then you won't find another place with salsa as amazing as this. My favorite is their creamy "avocado" salsa. From what I was told it is not made with avocado but tastes similar and it has a nice spice level to it. I love this place and would go every day if I could. We've tried the pollo, asada, tripe, al pastor and lengua tacos. All have been delicious every single time we go. Keep up the amazing work! read more

Tacos El Machin - Trifecta of taco perfection - Tacos Near Me - Albany, Oregon

I'm eagerly awaiting a menu expansion so that I can return for more deliciousness! The decor is still coming along, but it was a delight to see brightly painted tables as soon as you walk in the door. It's a welcome contrast to the Oregon gray. The menu is simple: five different types of tacos, some tortas (sandwiches), a quesadilla plate, and a selection of appetizers on a specials board. We ordered some tacos al pastor (pork), tacos de lengua (tongue), and tacos de carne asada (steak). I also ordered an appetizer, a tostada with tomato-marinated shrimp. The appetizer threw me for a bit of a loop because it also included imitation crabmeat, which I normally dislike, but it worked with the slightly-sweet tomato marinade and sweet shrimp. The tacos were excellent, though. They're small, but loaded with meats that are cooked skillfully. The meats each had their own complex flavors that made each taco interesting and distinct. The best part of the experience was combining the tacos with the six different house-made spicy salsas, which ranged from creamy to tangy, sharply spicy to smoky. Two tacos were enough for my large appetite, but one of the talented and personable cooks came out to chat with us and asked if we had tried the tripe taco. I'm not normally a fan of tripe, but I never turn down an adventure, so when he offered us one each to try, how could I refuse? I was so glad he brought me one. It had a flavor that reminded me of chicharron sandwiches my Mexican friends used to make me back in Florida. It almost tasted like breaded pork and wasn't chewy or tripey at all. I truly enjoyed it and I will order it again in the future! The kids liked the Sno-Cones in the freezer. :). Very basic, hole-in-wall, taco shop with delicious tacos! This is street food and it was great. The tacos are small, we each had three. They were $2 each. We had pastor and asada, both were delish. Big sauce/salsa bar with several types of what appears to be homemade sauces. Some are pretty hot, so watch out! They also had a pot of beans, but they were gone by the time we got there (just before closing). Since we walked in about 15 minutes before closing, they were already starting to break down the salsa bar, etc. However, they were friendly and accomodating. They offer beer--which was great. If you are looking for easy and casual, this is the place for you. Don't come expecting a sit-down mexican place with chips and salsa (they don't have it). While they do have lots of seating, this isn't a place where you would want to linger over dinner. It's quick food, served with a smile. read more
