My wife and I came here for the first time today, after I read the reviews. We live in Star, and this restaurant is only about 10 minutes from our home. Located right on 44, it seems to have plenty of parking in the back and a few parking spots in the front. It is a free-standing building, nice enough curb appeal, and inside the seating is ample, with a combination of booths and tables. There is a drive-thru with an awkward set up. The pick-up window is located out in the seating area, so that the staff have to walk across the restaurant to deliver the food to the people ordering. You order at the counter and they bring the food to you. Both the female and the male employees were very nice. My wife ordered the carnitas plate and I ordered the Shrimp a la Diabla. My wife thought her carnitas were a little crispy, as in over-cooked, but she did say that the meat was not dried out. She enjoyed her meal. I enjoyed the sauce of the Diabla dish; it was spicy enough. What I would have preferred as more mushrooms and a lot less of the thickly cut onion slices, which I don't care for and actually don't agree with me, if eaten in quantities. I would have also preferred more mushrooms, which I do enjoy. Still, the shrimp were plump and well-cooked, and there were plenty of them. Also, contrary to some reviews, we thought that there dishes offered plenty of food. There were flies in the restaurant, which are a real turn-off for us. Once we moved over under one of the ceiling fans, it did not seem like a problem. All in all, a good first experience. We will definitely be back. read more

We had a very bad experience here. We used to eat here a few times a month but after this last incident we will not be going back. The food is usually pretty good but the service is just the worst. One of the workers I think maybe the manager, wanted to argue with me about missing a few items in our order. The tacos were also made wrong. Which would've been ok if they just remade them and gave us the missing food. But that was not the case. She cussed at me and had a horrible attitude saying "you can argue with someone else" and " come back and talk to the owner then cause I don't care" I tried to ask her for receipt and she said you don't need that and demanded I give her the food back without remaking it.... So basically I had to pay for the food that I didn't get. So sad because it's a smaller local business. read more

Despite the very broad, expansive menu that greets you at the counter, Tacos El Rancho manages to promptly serve fresh, quality meals. Walking in the door (a drive through is also available) you face the daunting task of choosing from a large, wall-mounted menu board. Not only are the expected Mexican fare options offered, but one can also enjoy burgers, fries, and traditional American fast food staples. Plenty of frozen treats - shakes, malts, soft-serve cones, sundaes - can be enjoyed as well. The beverage choices are plenty and include Mexican favorites for those so inclined. The folks working in Tacos El Rancho were very efficient. Orders are taken at the counter, but your food is delivered promptly. "Real" plates and silverware are used and the entire dining room was immaculate. Along with your meal, two different sauces, one red, one green, are provided. One unusual thing about the establishment is that the drive thru "pick up" window is actually located across the dining room from the ordering counter - thus the servers end up scrambling across the room to hand off the drive-through orders. Regardless, the amount of cars in the drive-through line while I was there tells me it works just fine. I ordered the "Taco Plate" which includes rice and refried beans along with three soft tacos. My meat choice was carnitas. The tacos are comprised of two soft corn tortillas, the carnitas (in my case), white onion, and cilantro. A wedge of lime and two radish slices adorn the tacos. The carnitas were very tasty, not greasy at all (as some can be), and were securely held in place by the fresh tortillas that did not fall apart. The refried beans, topped with a sprinkle of cheese, were good and not salty at all. The rice was also nice - loose as it should be - and a nice accompanying side for the tacos. The excellent staff here managed to clear and clean tables immediately. Impressed with their hard work. Return visits are in our future. read more

We live nearby and have been here many times throughout the last 4 years. I definitely would place this establishment in my top 10 store front mexican restaurants here in the state. This is coming from a gringo who's eaten a lot of mexican food from cali to Texas. That being said, I've been very bothered by one issue that has lead my family to no longer eating there nearly as frequently we previously had over the last year. May sound silly to some, but they are so STINGY over hot sauce. The fact that I can make a 75 dollar order and be forced to pay additional money for 3 of my 8 hot sauces requested is bs! When this policy first occurred a few years ago I just decided to reduce our patronage and opt to no longer tip our usual 10% in the drive though. I came through tonight and I decided to finally complain publicly. It's laughable that we aren't even provided a complimentary hot sauce with our orders of Queso Berrias Tacos! I'm sure I'm not the only person that has spent much less there due to the pettiness of such a policy. If you think it's a good business model, go ahead and continue. read more

So your telling me I can dine in and eat all the salsa I want but have to pay 50 cents per tiny container for a to go order? Ordered 30$ worth of food and got 2 sides of salsa. When I asked for more the lady looked at me like I was crazy and said they charge. Make that make sense. On top of the unfriendly guy who took our order who seemed to not like his job. I mean a smile wouldn't hurt ya. Burritos we got barely had any meat in them. Rice was not cooked all the way it was crunchy. Will not be back to this location. So this Mexican restaurant is right down the street from our house and has become our go to when I don't want to cook. They have been absolutely wonderful to us and they don't even know it. We live in a very small town and I hope it always stays this way. This little restaurant will cook up hamburger patties for my dog, Val, make sure that my tacos are on corn tortillas and not flour knowing that I will get sick. The staff that works there are just wonderful. It is always busier than busy which is a good thing. The inside is a little dated and I like it. that way! It reminds me of the Mexican restaurant that I grew up with. this restaurant is just absolutely perfect and I don't want anything to change about it. read more

Started coming here about 5 years ago and it was for the most part decent. Over the last 3 years ,,,hate to say it but they are seriously cheap with the meat. I went yesterday and ordered 2 carne asada burritos, about $24. The meat to rice ratio was 90% rice and filler and 10% meat. Not the 1st Time they have done this, but gave them multiple chances. We ordered 2 burgers, and chicken nuggets. We sat in the drive thru from 5:26-5:45 -- they finally came out to ask "what did you order again?" .. 3 people behind us got their food before we did. My husband finally went inside to see what happened, and they were serving other people that had walked in way after we had been waiting. And said "they had simple Orders" we HAD burgers and chicken nuggets! They hadn't even started our order by this point. We asked for a refund because our two year old was getting fussy and hungry. They didn't refund the tip or even apologize at all. This isn't the first time they have messed up, I just don't leave reviews unless it's THIS bad. Recently discovered this Mexican restaurant and I'm so thankful we drove by it. I've been searching for really good, authentic Mexican since moving here last year from CA. It doesn't disappoint! We ordered at the drive through and ate our food down the road at the river. I got the taco plate- 2 asada and 1 carnitas taco- the tortillas are perfectly cooked and taste amazing and fresh, the meat is authentic & had great flavor!!! Tacos are on the smaller size (palm of my hand in size) so order more because I wish I had ordered more- delicious! It's all I've been looking for as far as a street tacos go. And washed it down with a glass bottle Mexican coke- YUM!!!! Can't wait to come back and get more. Craving it now! read more

13 Milkshakes (supposed to be 14) for a Church group of well deserved Young Men, we do this a couple of times a year. Called ahead to place order, big order, gave them a little heads up. After all was said and done, the guy (me) that plugged it all in and paid for it ended up with no Shake. Easy fix we're short one shake, "No your not, here is the list, see they are all there." The best Mexican food around! Family recipes made with care and love are easy to see and taste. The birria tacos and consume were delish, the asada fries were practically bottomless and had plenty of meat throughout. The jalapeño burger reminded me of how burgers used to taste before fast food...very delicious and very authentic. I've given this place a few tries ever since farm boy was taken over and turned into tacos el rancho. The prices keep going up and they now charge you to use a debit/credit card. The wait is usually pretty long like tonight I called ahead and ordered so my food would be ready and they told me they accidentally gave it away to the car ahead of me! Two times ago they made my mother in laws food wrong and the young girl was told right in front of us that the bill was coming out of her pay check by the manager. read more
