I really hate to write this. It pains but I ordered 35 dollars worth of food for myself. The refried beans were not good at all. Made me wonder how many times they refried them. When I got home they were all hard and dark brown. And the rice. Oh my Lord. It looks like they turned to instant rice vs. Real made home mexican rice. It was just pieces of rice stick together. I got referred to taco El Rey by my banker in Ontario, she said this place is the bomb! So far so good a lot of Hispanics here so this must be a good hangout! Service is good so far huge menu, reasonable prices mariachi music in the background. I'm having torta à la Garcia my girlfriend's having beef enchiladas. The torta very fresh flavorful you gotta keep it in the wrap because it does fall apart because it has so much stuff in it which is Bueno. The enchiladas were OK. We actually went to my favorite Tacos Colima for lunch first, but they were closed, so we checked Yelp for other taco places and found this one just 0.3 miles from Tacos Colima, so off we went. The on-street parking was packed, so that was a good sign. The inside is nothing special, clean, with tables and old plastic booths in the main room where the doors open and close and if it's a cold day, you'll feel it (like I did) and then more tables in a larger dining room. The menu is on the wall and you order at the window and they bring it out to you. Street tacos were $1.50 - above the average for the area which is typically $1-$1.25 - and we ordered 6 carnitas tacos and 6 carne asada tacos, 2 horchatas and a can of Coke. The first thing I noticed when they brought us our tacos was that the meat was beyond shredded, it was so small, like that jerky chew beef jerky you get in a chewing tobacco can. This was the same for both kinds of tacos. The carne asada was dry and crunchy and being early in the day it didn't seem like it was fresh or made that day. The carnitas were moister and had good flavor to them. The horchata was very watered down and had way too much cinnamon in it. It was not good at all and I was ticked that I spent so much on that drink and not drink it. If Tacos Colima isn't open next time, I'll find someplace else to go. read more

The food here was not good they barley put any meat on the tacos, the salsa is more spicy than flavorful and watered down, the tripas were too rubbery you couldn't eat them, and the horchata was way too sweet all sugar no flavor. You know it's going to be good when the parking lot is full and many people are ordering in Spanish. We got burritos, quesadillas, and a few tacos. The tacos are a great price for a decent amount of meat. The quesadillas are quite small but fairly inexpensive. The tortillas seemed pretty fresh which makes a big difference in the quality of burritos. If you are looking for a "super burrito" this is not it. It has rice, beans, and meat. Maybe a little bit of cheese? We had our own sour cream at home and they tasted great but they didn't have much on them. Even though the burritos were a little smaller than I was expecting we were still definitely full with one burrito and one-two tacos each. We went here tonight for dinner and we loved it. This is an awesome and authentic Mexican taqueria. The food was very fresh and clean tasting. We order the burrito, enchallida, and sope. The chicken burrito was a little small but very tasty and only 5 dollars. The enchallidas were very good but I did not love the sauce. Then we got a pork sope and it was amazing. This is a favorite local place for Mexican street food-style fare. You see a lot of Spanish-speaking folk in here dining, which is always a good sign for authenticity, but at the same time I know that turns some of the locals off because the style is slightly different than the Americanized version of this same food they are used to eating. It's their loss I say because we love this place. Value for the money is pretty outstanding, but some folks say they've been downsizing the portions lately, so I'll have to check that out for myself. The atmosphere is very much the utilitarian, hole-in-the-wall style eatery, but it's always consistent and delicious and their long hours make it a favorite of the post-bar crawl crowd who know it's here. That being said, given its location, if you didn't go looking for this place, you would probably never find it, since it's a little off the beaten tracks (literally) near where the railroad crosses by some of Caldwell's industrial businesses. The format as one could guess is fast-casual, so definitely a destination you go to more for the food than the dining atmosphere. That being said, they keep the place clean and in good shape, but some of the chairs are a little uncomfortable. read more

The menu is really simple and straight forward, you pick what you want, burrito, taco quesadillas, torta etc and pick your meat, and they have the good stuff to choose from, like cabeza, lengua, Barbacoa and all the regulars like carne asada and polo and many more. I love the fact they keep it simple and focus on the food. This place reminds me of some of my favorite hole in wall restaurants in Los Angeles. We moved here in 2019 from San Antonio. Tacos El Rey was the first Mexican food recommended to us by the locals. The food did not disappoint. I was amazed at their kitchen cleanliness which you can see as you place your order. They are consistent with this cleanliness over the last three years. They are also consistent with their food plates and taste. Being from South Texas our Barbacoa tastes different. We found that the Cabeza is the closest in taste. My absolute favorite is their Sopes. It's perfection in each bite. Inside the restaurant seating area is sparse but it's functional. The food is the main attraction which does not disappoint. read more
