Came here for lunch with friends. Place was empty. Great atmosphere, cool artwork, comfy seats, all the good sort of things. Right away we noticed service was gonna be an issue. While we were waiting on friends, the apps we ordered early took forever. This was a theme that would continue through out the afternoon. The food took forever. The tables sat around us ordered after us and were done eating by the time any of ours arrived. They forgot one of the burritos ordered and tried to claim it's because they ran out of that specific meat. It was way too slow to run out of anything. Server was nice, but the kitchen and food was just so insanely slow. Despite having to wait forever, once it showed up, it was okay. Not great, not terrible, just ok. I'm not saying I won't come back, I'm just saying I know what to expect. There are better Mexican restaurants in Caldwell, and a much better one in Kuna that I'd rather go to. read more

This is consistently one of our favorite Mexican restaurants in downtown town Caldwell. Definitely on the higher end, expect to spend more than your typical Mexican joint. You definitely get what you pay for! The quality is amazing! I had tamales tonight, chicken minus all dairy. They still added cheese to my beans and I requested it to be left out but my hubs just ate the cheese off'. Food came out extremely fast and was all amazing! Bartenders and super fast and great at keeping your cup full :) In the evening it's a total bar setting but it's super fun! Around dinner time there are lots of families and it's a bit quieter. We came in for an early dinner. I made a reservation since it was a Saturday. I liked that they accepted reservations! The chips and salsa were not provided but we asked and they sent them out quickly. The chips were super fresh and tasted homemade and the salsa also seemed very fresh! We ordered our kids the quesadilla and they liked it. We had the carnitas nachos which were yummy! My husband was disappointed with his two tacos. He felt like they were dry but my mother in law liked her tri-colored enchiladas. Our drinks were delicious and my N/A hibiscus drink was so tasty! Our server wasn't the friendliest and it took a while to be acknowledged once we were seated but overall we enjoyed our visit. I would recommend it and come back. Prices are expensive for Mexican! We came here for my son's 15th Birthday and had the worst experience we have ever had at a restaurant. They brought put everyone's food except for his. We waited patiently for 10-15 minutes before we flagged someone down to see where his food was. We told one waitress and she said to give her a minute. She proceeded to help 4 other tables and ignored eye contact when we attempted to get an update. We had to waive down another waitress and she also just disappeared with no update. I had to walk to the bar and speak to some other man to tell him the situation. His order was never put in and everyone's food was cold. It wasn't even good when it was warm. The only thing good here was the decor. I highly advise you do not visit this place. The food, service and prices are not worth it. read more

Dinner on a Friday night. Food and cocktails were just OK, but very overpriced. They bill you out at the table with no breakdown of individual costs of each item. After closing out I requested a copy of my receipt and I found a "processing fee" of $4.00. Unbelievable, the bill was over $100 for two people and they have the audacity to charge a $4.00 processing fee. With the $6.00 tax the extra fees amounted to $10.60 total. This place seems just like Amano who went belly up and now is an empty space. Avoid this place and just go to the restaurant across the street. Much better and no surprise fees. Wake up people, this is Idaho, you can't soak people for basic Mexican food. There are too many other options. Cheers! read more

Dined here at Casa Añejo last week for the first time. Made a reservation using another app which ended up not needed as we were quite early for dinner. Business was picking up as we left, so possibly a good thing to reserve if eating after 6 PM. We ordered the sweet corn guacamole as an appetizer. Quite interesting with the corn added but still very delicious. Plenty of chips were served for the two of us. I enjoyed their classic margarita during my meal, and the drink was well made. Appetizer was $17 and the classic Rita was $10. For dinner, the wife ordered the carnitas plate, and I had the wet burrito. Besides being absolutely perfect, it was enough food that we had two to-go boxes and enjoyed a second night of dinner. I sampled the carnitas plate and the meat and everything was well prepared and seasoned perfectly. The wet burrito was huge, and I chose chicken as my meat choice. The sauces they smothered it in were excellent. You won't go hungry or disappointed. Carnitas plate was $25 and the burrito was $24 The restaurant is a medium sized place, and the decor inside is quite pleasing to the eye. Very relaxing atmosphere. read more

I went on a weekday for dinner and it was pretty lively. The decor was super cute with multiple neon signs and a really cool mural (unfortunately wasn't able to snap a pic). The staff was very welcoming and was immediately able to accommodate my party of 10. They offered weekly specials as well as seasonal ones and even had a menu dedicated to birria which is the way I went. I got the Birria Ramen which I had never heard of before and it was delicious! My wife and I just moved to Star from Orange County, CA. We are retired and doing some exploring of the Treasure Valley. Today, we decided to go to Caldwell to check out the area and some of the wineries. We tried a few other Mexican restaurants but they were closed. We ended up at Casa Anejo. Located on Main St. in downtown Caldwell, which we found to be very cool, it is down at the end of a line of shops. The inside is industrial ceiling, booths on one side, half booths on the other, and tables in the middle. The furniture is dark wood and aesthetically pleasing, and there is a U-shaped bar at the back of the restaurant, with the restrooms on the left side in the back. The young man serving us was very nice and did a great job taking care of us. They don't service chips and salsa, which was a little disappointing. We both had the ala carte tacos. My wife had two, one asada, one al pastor, and I had two shrimp. The tacos are street size and $6 each. Rice and beans are $4 extra. So, $16 for two small tacos, rice and beans. To be sure, they were good, but, in my opinion, overpriced. You don't leave feeling that you got a lot of food for your money. And maybe that's not their goal. Downtown Caldwell has several Mexican/Hispanic food restaurants, some more formal than others. I would be inclined to try some of the other establishments before returning to Casa Anejo. read more

First and foremost, the food was outstanding! Let me be clear--my low rating has absolutely nothing to do with the quality or taste of the dishes. Everything we ordered--the Carne Asada Plate, Tri-Color Enchiladas, and Shrimp Enchiladas--was top-notch. The restaurant, while small, has a comfortable, trendy, and festive atmosphere with great vibes. We were warmly greeted by our server, who was friendly and informative as we asked questions about the menu. Since we needed a few minutes to decide, he stepped away. However, after about 10-15 minutes, he had not returned, so I got up to ask if we could place our order. The food arrived promptly afterward and, as mentioned, it was delicious. Unfortunately, the service became a recurring issue. After receiving our food, another 15-20 minutes passed with no follow-up. We wanted to order more, but once again, I had to get up to find our server. A third time, no one had checked in on us for another 15-20 minutes. I got up once more--and this time, I slipped on a small pile of food left on the floor. It was a dramatic, movie-style fall. Thankfully, I wasn't hurt, but it could have ended very differently. Only after the fall did we receive immediate attention. While the staff apologized, no compensation or sincere acknowledgment was offered for the hazard, nor for the repeated need to chase down our server. We later learned that the server was actually the owner, who had been engaged in conversation with friends and family throughout the evening. While it's wonderful to see a close-knit environment, it shouldn't come at the expense of paying guests. We weren't the only ones affected--two other tables near us were also visibly frustrated by long waits and lack of attention. A note to the restaurant: Friends and family are important, and it's great to have them supporting your business. But don't let that distract from the people who are choosing to support your restaurant as customers. A little more attentiveness would go a long way toward matching the quality of your exceptional food. read more

He also apologized to the table next to us and gave them a free shot. Next time we come back to Idaho we're going after the coconut margarita. I think the building itself is really cool, however service and food could be stepped up a bit. I came here a few weeks ago and I ordered a chicken burrito. I am aware that I am picky about meat, but was unaware that all of the chicken would be dark meat in the burrito(not stated on menu). I ate two bites from my burrito and continued to pay full price for it. I may come back to try one more time because I really wanted to like this restaurant. I will also add that the music choice when I was in the restaurant was not very appropriate for the time of day and the location of the restaurant. Hope to have a better experience next time! We (a party of four) came in on a Wednesday night before heading to the rodeo and Casa Añejo was the perfect spot to start off an amazing night. There is no place better to be on a Wednesday night in Caldwell than listening to live music and enjoying a drink and meal at Casa Añejo. The vibes are absolutely immaculate. Here's what we orders between the 4 of us- Drinks: Smoked mezcal margarita Michelada El jardinero ( mezcal, sweet peppers, agave, lime) Mangoñiada (tequila, chamoy + tajin, mango) Food: Bandera chilaquiles Taco dinner (one of each taco + beans) Chicken mole Carne asada plate The drinks are reasonably priced $9-$13 for really creative and delicious cocktails. The smoked mezcal margarita ($11) was my favorite drink and served with a dome of smoke. The Bandera chilaquiles was stuffed with cheese and all three sauces it was drenched in was delicious and easy to share. Highly recommend this appetizer! I ordered the carne asada plate (rare) and the meat was cooked and seasoned perfectly. Grilled green onions, peppers, radish, tomatoes, beans, and rice- everything you need to make the best DIY tacos with handmade tortillas. Chicken mole is their most popular dish and from the bite I had, I understand why! You can really taste the time that went into the mole. Taco dinner came with one of each of their taco offerings and beans! Perfect for folks who want to try a bit of everything. My wife got the Carnitas, didn't take a picture of it though, but they were amazing. As a sidenote, the micro greens on top of the ribeye are locally grown from farmers micro greens, and they were delicious . Do yourself a favor and come eat here. Newer upscale Mexican restaurant near the Indian Creek Plaza. The restaurant space is open and very well lit with natural light. Took a while for staff to come over and greet me and take my drink order. Finally was able to order the enchiladas which featured a variety of sauces. The food was very tasty in the value for the price was spot on. It felt like they are still working some kinks out. Service was not the greatest. Had to get the attention of the server several times. If you're on the fence, GO. Food is awesome and we are well traveled eaters (lived all over the country and we take food very seriously). Great atmosphere. They invested in decor. Stylized, thoughtful and still approachable. Service was excellent. We had Florentino as our server. He was wonderful all around. Great guidance with the menu, personable and timely with service. As a mention before the food, I LOVE that they carry Mexican coke in a bottle. Husband had a margarita - very good. Order the enchiladas. My husband is 1/2 Mexican and we eat a lot of Mexican food - homemade and out. Their enchiladas are OUTSTANDING. The quality and abundance of chicken was notable. Love the variety of sauces too. My personal favorites are the green sauce and cheese but all are delicious. This dish is one we will crave so we'll def be back. Also got a few tacos - shrimp, carne asada and carnitas. To be very honest I didn't want to eat here but I'm so HAPPY we did. I'm so use to the typical Mexican restaurant food (lacking flavor/creativity) and this place is anything but typical. Their classic margaritas are beyond fabulous. We have a Mexican restaurant close to where we live and you pay $10 for their margaritas which aren't as great as Casa Anejo. My husband had 3 and I had 2....we took a picture of the various liquors in this drink but have yet to get the right combo....guess we're going to have to drive 7 hours and try those out some more. For dinner I had the tri-colored sauced enchiladas and my husband had a steak dish. Food was amazing, the decor was very modern and our waitress was very attentive. The bartender made the most amazing margaritas. If you want chips and salsa that's an add-on. Heard it was very good. We travel to El Paso for exceptional Mexican food but no more. To start off my waiter that I had named Oscar was very nice. I give him definitely a five star rating. To start out with the food I wasn't ready for what I saw on the menu. Unfortunately I did not look at the menu before I went in. It's kind of a blend of American and Mexican foods which they tried to elevate by the way they plate. The atmosphere and ambiance of the place is very nice. Small but very personal. And there weren't very many items on their menu. I started with chips and salsa which was kind of expensive homemade chips which were good and salsa which was maybe medium spicy if that. Definitely not used to paying for chips and salsa. I had two carne asada Street tacos which were small a couple bites each(I had them at jalapenos for spice). I got a soda and one refill. I believe I spent a bit over with tip $30.00. Being honest I do believe that the food was overpriced. Here's some pictures of my food. The reason why I only give three stars was because of the price of the food compared to the amount of food I got. Unfortunately I will not return to this restaurant because of that.
