I had carne asada fries before so I was hoping these would be good. I love the softness of the fries with the meat and cheese, however these carne asada fries were dry and super hard. The amount of times I've ordered delivery from this place So I feel like I have some credibility in their consistency and taste. For the prices they're offering, I'm very happy with my meals here. This is one of the only places I'm able to tacos with lengua/cabeza are my favorite tacos. (For any Koreans, the cabeza tacos taste exactly like galbitang.) And the burritos were great. The sauces come in individual packets so they're perfectly portioned and "safe" during travel. I've seen some reviews talking about the spice levels - as someone who is well-versed in spicy, their habanero sauces are pretty spicy, but everything else is relatively medium. I ordered the burrito without any dairy, so there wasn't that much flavor, but the sauces remedied that well. I've also tried their burgers - weren't really a fan. Just seemed like a taco with a burger bun, which just isn't my style. But the churros are fries are great late night snacks - take a look at my pics if you wanna see their texture. I came once before and it wasn't terrible or memorable for that matter, so last night when the taco truck on my block wasn't there, I came to the closest thing possible, back here to Tacos El Unico. I ordered the quesadilla con adobada, $5.99. I was excited to go home and eat, when I opened the container I was shocked at the size. It looked like I had ordered a kids menu quesadilla from Chili's! There was barely any meat on this poor desnutrida quesadilla. Whatever right, I was hungry af and had already paid for it, I was home. This happens sometimes- you waste good money on bad food... so, I tried it and things didn't get any better. Of the small amount of meat (also not good) that was in my quesadilla, there was a good amount that was just pieces of fat! My photo only shows two but I ate through at least 3 other pieces. The green salsa also wasn't good. And this morning, my stomach was upset, I'll spare ya'll the details. I had to run to the restroom. The other reviews I've read are mixed, they're good sometimes and bad other times. Idk man. I might be crazy enough to come back but I'll have to try something else on the menu. When the pandemic started, we took it upon ourselves to look out for the restaurants in our area by eating out. Tacos el único was one of the places we wanted to support, but I have been super disappointed with how rude the workers are and how, you can literally repeat a specific order THREE TIMES, and they can literally still get it wrong and then argue with you when you call them on it. So sad that a local neighborhood establishment would choose to treat its most faithful customers that way. Would recommend if you're in a pickle, but don't stress, street tacos are everywhere and they might treat you with more kindness than some of the ladies at El Único. read more

The carne asada fires got my attention right away. They looked so good on the menu photo. My husband wanted to try the J.R mexican burger and a fish taco. I also wanted to try their guacamole. I arrived and I noticed they have their parking lot, but it's a one way entrance. I went in the wrong way. Luckily, it was late and there was hardly any cars. They have an entrance in the front and they also have one in the back were the parking lot is at. I entered through the back. The cashier was cleaning up, but when she saw me she went right away to assist me. I was looking at their menu there just in case they had something else. They had the same online menu. She took my order and she recommended I get some salsas while I was waiting. They have about 4 salsas, radish, onions with cilantro and if I recall correctly hot peppers. I noticed they had a sign up that said $1 medium drink. Great deal. So I went ahead and ordered one. I got an horchata instead of a soda. The carne asda fries were really good. My husband loved his J.R burger and fish taco. He also stole some of my fries.The guacamole was really good. Downside, they don't have pico de gallo. I don't understand how a meixcan restaurant doesn't have pico de gallo. I really wanted some and the cashier told me they don't have any. I didn't really like the horachata either. It was okay. Been to this location a few times and have ordered the following items; Asada Fries but you have to ask for guacamole and sour cream otherwise you get just meat and cheese on your fries. Their burritos are probably the best item, just order it without rice as they will make your burrito with 80% rice. I'm not a fan of tortillas they use for their tacos, they're very thick and they use two of them. The service is decent, they're not rude but they're also not warm and welcoming either. Tacos El Unico is the best discovery near USC yet, with competent, fast working staff, a clean environment, and fresh food that is made to order. I come here at least once a week because its so versatile for meals. Breakfast? Get the breakfast torta with your choice of meat. It's basically a burger with a fried egg, guac, beans, and meat for around $5 and its perfectly filling. Lunch? I actually love the mini mexican or normal size mexicans which are also a burger type with mayo, chopped lettuce, cheese, your choice of meat (I usually go for carne asada). This is so delicious I'd honestly say its like a mini in-n-out burger, so flavorful and not dry at all. This place is also open super late and on fridays and saturdays until 3am! The tacos are great and you can ask for them with no condiments so you can put them on as you please on the full bar filled with green and red sauce, onions, cilantro, and limes! I've yet to see it lacking any of the items. It is always fully stocked and super organized with togo sauce containers and plastic bags, SO thoughtful! The service is always good. My roommate is vegan and asked if their beans are made with lard. Normally someone working at these types of places would be 1) rude and annoyed at such a question or 2) be completely unknowledgeable. The woman was patient and went to go ask about the lard content only to come back and say there was none. yay! The woman at the counter is always helpful and understanding when you don't want tomatoes or onions or cilantro, and she always gets it RIGHT. You can even customize a burrito if you wanted to, as I did once when I wanted a purely bean, rice, and cheese burrito, which is not on their official menu. Come here for a slightly more expensive meal than your regular taco truck, BUT a nice place to sit, full bar, and extremely helpful and competent staff. Also helps that they have wonderful caramel and creme filled churros for dessert or if ice cream is more of your thing, baskin robbins is next door. Love tacos el unico so much! read more
