I have been coming to this place for years now, since it was a small shack across the street. Basically you make a line, order, pay and get a seat and there is parking around the restaurant and on the street. The menu is very simple and this is what makes it so good because they only specialized in tacos yaqui style (a northern region in Mexico). They come in a flour tortilla which is so good and its texture incredible, this is the menu: - Perrones.- they include beef, salsa, guacamole, cheese, cilantro and onions. - Sencillo.- same as perron without cheese and this is my favorite. - Quesadilla.- the vegetarian option, only cheese. There is always a long wait here, roughly 45 minutes to an hour. It is located just off the main road and is extremely popular , clean, and well presented. Their meat quality for the carne asada arranchera is very good. As you line up, you can watch them fire up the carne asada on an oak wood grill. They have a technique going where that meat goes into a pot, which is then poured into a pot with some meat juices at the counter. At the counter , there's two guys constantly working on making your food. There are few options here, I believe only four. Most people get the perrone, which was 45 pesos. It is a larger, flour tortilla (instead of corn) and filled the the brim with carne asada. It's then topped off with beans, onions, cilantro, and guacamole salsa. I also forgot the mention the tortilla comes loaded with melted cheese. You can customize a bit if you don't want it "con todo" aka the perrone. I thought the meat was extremely high quality and juicy and the tortilla was excellent with cheese. I think next time I'd try to find a time where there's a little less wait, and maybe skip the beans -- they kind of do well with everything but also is a little overpowering the rest of the components. read more

We wound up in the neighborhood of Tacos El Yaqui just by chance and boy am I sure glad we did. After watching some football and drinking some cervesas at Solazo, we decided to make a taco run before the 49ers game. Tacos El Yaqui closes at 5pm on Sundays so we headed over about 4:30ish. Lucky for us, there were only a few other patrons in line but I hear the wait can be about an hour long at times. As we waited you could see the magic unfolding. One worker came outside and slapped a few pounds of fresh carne on the wood-fire grill. Another worker was a one-man show as he sliced and diced carne, and prepared Perrones with the utmost efficiency. Perrones is their version of the queso taco. Equipped with a generous helping of carne, accompanied by freshly melted queso, beans, salsa, cilantro, onion, and guac, these meaty open-faced burritos were spectacular! The meat was juicy, the ingredients were fresh, and the price was right in my budget (50 pesos/$3.00) a pop. Not the cheapest eats in Mexico but the quality made them worthwhile. We ordered up 9 tacos to eat at the neighboring bar, but I also 2 extra to take home, which was an excellent choice if I do say so myself. If you're looking for that bomb Al Pastor Baja is known for, this isn't it as this place is strictly about that beef. However if you've already gotten your Al Pastor fix, as did I, this is definitely the bomb spot to come. Parking was a cinch and we were in and out in less than 20 minutes. I can't wait to return. I have been coming here since they had a little stand with just a tiny grill on the side, it is so awesome they have had enough popularity to turn their place into a nice little location with tables, bathrooms, etc. The seating is all outside but well covered under their patio, the line is almost always at least 10-15 people long but the average wait time is about 30 minutes during the week and 1hr on the weekends. But don't let that discourage you , this place truly deserves your patience. I can honestly say this is my favorite taco place in Mexico, nothing even comes close to it. Their options are simple, they don't expand on other meats because why? when you are good at one thing be good that that one thing and your business will flourish. Which is one of the main problems with all of the Mexican places here, they try to cater to everyone and end up half assing everything, such a shame. Let me set the stage, I am a frequent visitor to the area and have been for well over a decade, thus have many local native friends. One day I brought a friend with me who had been to the general area a couple of times. While we were discussing where to get something to eat, my young blond hair blue eyed gringo friend said that he knew where the best tacos in the area were. To everyone's surprise except for the person who had been here previously they really were the best tacos we ever had. Needless to say my gringo friend gained total street cred with my Mexican friends and was immediately accepted into the circle. They do one thing here and that is make the best grilled steak taco. What a great place to get tacos. I was with a friend so he knew this place and he did the ordering. Its pretty much an outdoor restaurant although there is cover under the kitchen area and the counter. Some of the tables also have table umbrellas as well. There was a decent line when we went which was a late lunch so I would plan on waiting in line. The food was outstanding. We got two carne asada tacos each and they were delicious.
