Went here on the advice of others. Well worth the visit and went back the next day for their tamale special. The trio of salsas were great, pleasant service and the food was quite nice. One thing one finds is dry and or tasteless Mexican style rice. The rice served here was neither! The food is excellent and the service is superior. The menu offers a wide variety of selections prepared in a traditional family recipe style. The green chili chicken tamales are made in the kitchen, and when they are available in banana leafs they are a real treat. If you like chili rellenos don't expect them to be battered and fried. Hands down the best place to eat authentic Mexican food in Amarillo. Like the lengua tacos, barbacoa tacos, rib-eye tacos or even asada tacos. Another great plate they have here are the asada fries as appetizer or as meal. Also the Mojo de Ajo is a very great tasty plate that would go great with any michelada. It's hard to believe there are so many people without taste buds in Amarillo. And this hole is usually packed. Where to start... the food is absolutely bland. The prices are high for the taste, which again is less than average. The salsas they give you pre-meals taste like they came out of the tomato sauce can. This place is for goofy guys who carry man-purses and have women's drinks in hand (yeah I've seen him here, he's a regular). I love good Tex-Mex (I could eat 3 meals a day of the manna) , so I personally recommend going down the street to La Fiesta across from Sams where I've never had a bad meal. 7:30 pm on Thursday. I parked in the shade, and when I left at 8:30pm, thermometer still said 100 F, down from the 107 it was an hour and a half ago. An hour later, it's still 97, but finally dropping. Parking lot is packed, but inside I get seated immediately. Glad to get out of the heat - but it's a dry heat...eh? Okay, the food. Wow, where to start... I sometimes forget how quality is about the details. Some small details will make the difference between really good experience and just an average experience. 'Scuze me if I misspell a couple of words, the margaritas were reeeeeeely good too. They have an extensive margarita menu which I hate (love). I feel an obligation to sample them all. I stopped after 2, but gave in and went back for a 3rd. I'm still thinking about one more...? 'Ritas are really good in summer. Atmosphere is cool, casual and comfortable. Patrons vary from the quietly well-to-do, to the blue collar fellow - apparently all drawn by the same thing... really good mexican food and prompt, friendly service. Chips are crispy & taste fresh, none of the stale, damp, hard chips you get in some places. 3 salsas with the chips - 1 green and, 2 reds, one red is a little sweeter than the other, both good. I don't really care for the green, but to each his own. Okay, I ordered Jorge's Special. 1 beef taco, 1 beef enchilada, 1 pork tamale, with an appetizer of a crispy quesadilla and guacamole. I thought this is a nice variety of Mexican basics to sample. the appetizer is a fried corn tortilla topped with very good queso, and a fried corn tortilla cup filled with pure-D-avocado guacamole. Very nice if you like avocado, and I do. Meal arrived and I started with the beef taco. Crispy beef taco - This is where the details are so important. First, none of these prefab taco shells like Taco Hell. Fresh, just fried, corn taco shell. NICE. The biggest detail is that they thought to drain the ground beef so that the grease doesn't melt the bottom out of the taco shell. A-frickin-mazing. I could pick it up & eat it like a regular crispy taco. Then, I realized that this is a really tasty taco. Ground beef, tomatoes, light lettuce, cheez... just like it oughta be, but tastier and all fresh. Seasonings done just right. Beef Enchilada - Some places have some meat wrapped in a corn? tortilla, then entombed in a layer of chili con queso, grated cheese, concrete, etc. This one was a delicious ground beef in a fresh corn tortilla, and garnished with the perfect amount of chili & cheese. I could taste the blend of flavors throughout and was very, very pleased. Ordered another 'Rita. Tamale - Again, details. It was a modest pork tamal, wrapped in the corn husk with no toppings whatsoever. Wait, no chili, no queso? Very simple, but speaks volumes. You don't need the toppings on this tamal. I realized this on the first bite, and confirmed it on the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th bite. Again...small details make a huge difference. I wasn't overwhelmed by the rice & beans, but I'll forgive this, considering the quality of the aforementioned. When I make it back to Amarillo, I'll be back to Jorge's. You should look them up too. Their website says they have one in Dallas too. I'll let you know if it's as good. I may need another computer because I think I wore out miy backspace button correcting margarita typos. We went here while driving through town and it was okay. The queso is just velveeta, or what it tastes like honestly. The food was bland and not very spicy or tasteful. My friend said he liked it but didn't love it. The tortillas are good but the rest just wasn't very flavorful. read more

Had dinner here last night with a Houston couple. We paid the bill with our credit card and added a tip. When we got home my wife noticed a surcharge for over $9.00 had been added to the bill. Called to talk to the manager about the added item. They hung up on us. I don't much care for things being added to our ticket without prior notification. Labor surcharge possibly?? Do not know, but I will find out. If they will not talk to us they can discuss it with Citibank. Good food but left a crappy taste in my mouth. I was in Town for a Meeting and Most of the Reviews here on Yelp as well as on FourSquare were Positive, so we decided to give Jorge a try for an early dinner before heading out of Town. The food was excellent and our waiter was very helpful. I ordered a combination plate. The food came out fast and it was very tasty. They provided 3 choices of homemade salsa which were also excellent. I would definately go back again when I make it back to Amarillo. read more

I moved to the Austin area recently and have been extremely disappointed in the Mexican food. I thought getting closer to Mexico would make it better. Well, went through Amarillo recently and found this place through Yelp. First off, AMAZING margaritas! I got the big one and had to give up my keys because I was getting a little giddy. The enchiladas and tacos were great. But the best part was the service. My two buddies ordered something that came with a big cheese nacho. When he served them, he dropped one off in front of me and said, "Can't leave you out, man." Then, after the meal, he dropped of some donut looking things for free. Believe me, he got some good tips. We've been patrons of TG's since they were in the old hole-in-the wall building a few blocks down. Food that is consistently excellent, super-friendly staff, and great drinks! During the week, avoid the typical lunch hour by going an hour earlier or an hour later. For dinner, either get there before 6pm, prepare to wait, or order take-out. Tacos Garcia has come a long way since we used to graze on grilled tacos and swill beer at their old Amarillo Blvd locale. The menu (and their English) have expanded since those early days, but the grilled tacos still rock, and the barbacoa burrito is one of the lone holdouts from the old a-la-carte menu, still delicious. read more

Aunthentic Tex-mex!!! family owned restaurant that has been in amarillo for over 20 years. sat down and right away someone was at my table with chips and a dish of salsas. asked what they were and the person said that it was the traditional salsa, green salsa and a new red salsa that was unstewed. they were all good, but i thought the green salsa was amazing. ordered a michelada, some regulars told me that the restaurant was known for this drink. they served it in a ice cold schooner. was good, server told me that they served it with fresh squeezed lime juice. ordered a small queso appetizer, but it looked like it could feed 2-3 people. very creamy and smooth, great taste. ordered the lengua plate, which you hardly see in many mexican restaurants. the meat was very tender and the onions and tomatoes that they cook with the lengua gives it a great flavor. the tortillas tasted homemade. i dont know if they make their own, but it tasted like it did. tried the jorge margarita on the rocks. Wow what a great taste. server told me it was from the owners personal recipe. all in all the food, drinks and the service was great. oh i forgot to mention that i took a tres leches cake home with me. server sold me on this even though i was full and told me that it is homemade. ate it later that night with a glass of milk and it was AMAZING!!! definitely will be back. read more
