Nothing about this place is mediocre! Chips and salsa are about as delicious as you can find this side of the border. Nachos are baked to such a crisp the cheese is so soft it will melt in your mouth. Burritos are fantastic. Hands down THE BEST Mexican food I've had in all of the Unites States. Period. I ordered the Barbacoa , Beef:, ( a brisket like beef, delicious , shredded ) Fantastic. The flour tortillas were the best I've had probably in 45 years...The Pico de Gallo was expertly minced, fine, and garnished with lemon slices. ..which was simply fantastic again. The Salsa and chips were excellent. The Guacamole was excellent. The rice and beans we're superb. I've been to unknown hundreds of Mexican Restaurants from Oaxaca , Guadalajara, Puerto Vallarta, Tijuana, Monterey, San Jose De Los Cabos, Ensenada, San Blas, Baja California, Mexico City , Acapulco, California... and all up and down California...Dallas ....let me tell you ...Taco's Garcia on Ross St. Amarillo TX takes ALL of them . Nobody comes close. These guys smoke all the other Mexican Restaurants with their hands tied behind their backs . They care about the quality of what the food tastes like to a degree I've never seen . I challenge you to get the Barbacoa Beef, and not be blown away ... Ignore all haters who didn't like something from this place. They are probably palate challenged. If your'e lucky enough to be in Amarillo ...go here and you will be thrilled. Stopped here while staying over in Amarillo for a night. We read great reviews and were hopeful the place lived up to the hype. We were very pleasantly surprised to pull up to this beautiful, fully-packed Mexican restaurant. It's definitely not a "taco shack" like we were expecting! I have gluten AND casein allergies and I was very happy they were able to easily accommodate my needs with such wonderful fare!! The corn tortillas are to die for!! BUT...a word of caution: I asked the server about the margaritas because they looked awesome. She asked the bartender and was told the margaritas are "gluten free" but I came back to the hotel feeling like a beached whale!! I was a bit miserable for a bit. So, drink with caution!! Usually I don't drink drinks made with mixes for that very reason. I make my own margaritas with fresh limes and agave nectar...much better! Tacos Garcia has been cranking out the best Tex-Mex in Amarillo ever since I can remember. The margaritas are good, the cheladas are good, the tamales, tacos and enchiladas are excellent. I'm not necessarily that impressed with their rellenos, but everything else is amazing. The wait staff is friendly, too. Just finished having dinner here and I have to say, being from SoCal Mexican restaurants come by the dozen and though this is "Tex-Mex" I don't understand the difference between Mexican food and Tex-mex (might just be a Texas thing idk?) Anyway, this is by far the best Mexican food we've had here in Amarillo. The prices are extremely nice for the amount of food and bottomless chips and salsa, can't beat it. The only complaint would be the flauta plate only comes with two. I'd say it should be at least 3-4. read more

Absolutely ground shaking True to form Tex-Mex. every time I drive through Amarillo I try to make it there, but it doesn't always work that way. I make it here about once a year, and the food and service is impeccable. If you ever find yourself a tad hungry while driving along I 40, do yourself a favor and stop here. read more

After reading the reviews, we decided to try this restaurant. Less. Than. Impressed. The tortilla chips tasted old. If a Mexican restaurant can't even get the chips right, it's a bad sign. The salsas were, however, delicious. I tried all of them, including the really hot green one and they were wonderfully different. I had high hopes for our food which was just okay because, again, what we ordered was made with the same tortillas that they made the chips out of. The guacamole on my plate was good as were the beans and rice. The flautas? Not so much. My husband said his enchildas were good. We are moving to Amarillo but I don't think we'll eat here again. read more

OMG.... We came in for dinner on Saturday night and had a 20 minute wait. We live in Austin where Mexican restaurants are a dime a dozen so we never wait BUT we decided to get a drink and wait.... SOO glad we did. The Margarita, I didn't like at first, ended up being strong!. The queso with beef... WOW so creamy and amazing. All three salsas were great. The waitress was super friendly and sweet. The Chili Relleno was super good and brisket tacos were something we wouldn't have tried on our own but so glad we did. They have a coconut margarita that is amazing. I will this palce was closer to home, it would be our favorite place. I almost want to drive the 9 hours back just to eat here. read more

This is our go to place for Mexican food. Have never had any complaints. Large restaurant with lots of seating. Lots of menu options. Chips served with 3 salsas to try and if you get queso, the addition of brisket is great. My favorite thing to order is the tortilla soup, minor assembly required. The shrimp cocktail and ceviche are refreshing. Portions are ample and service is good. read more

Friend that's a local recommended this place. I need to start by stating this: I've grown up eating Tex-Mex. I eat it multiple times a week. This is by far one of the best Mexican food restaurants I've ever eaten at. I got the deluxe special and it was wonderful. I'm not a taco fan (I know - weird) so the taco on this plate was a little stale but the rest of the food was delicious. Tacos Garcia is good, reasonably price Tex-Mex. If you are looking for authentic Mexican, unbelievably good food, or super cheap prices this is not the place for you. But if you want consistently good Tex-Mex, reasonable prices and good service give Tacos Garcia a try. This isn't the place I would take someone to show them how great Amarillo food is (it is), but its a reliable backup plan for the family. Overall, Tacos Garcia is probably the best place in town to take a large, picky group of eaters. Watch out for the Sunday lunch crowd. That place gets PACKED. We were heading through Amarillo on our way to Albuquerque and starved for a good meal. Saw the reviews and decided to give it a shot. It was after 9 when we pulled in. I think we were one of the last customers they served and they were still very patient. I disagree with one of the reviewers about the chile relleno plate. It absolutely hit the spot. Without the egg dipping stuff and having to be deep fried, I think it was actually healthier... Yummmmy. I topped the quacamole and bean tostada with the lettuce and tomatoes and the fresh salsa and double yummy! I would love to go back because there were other dishes I'd loved to have tried....their tamales, the tortilla soup, menudo......Now I can say I've eaten real Tex-Mex food in Texas!
