I've passed Tacos Gavilan for YEARS off the 10 freeway and we've never stopped by. Yesterday, my daughter and I wanted Tacos so we figured this was a good option off the freeway. We ordered off the website, which we found to be EXTREMELY easy and efficient. The pickup time is shown and it doesn't vary much from what they give you - not like freakin' King Taco. That alone made me happy! I walked in to pick up our food and it was packed to perfection! Literally. The young man packing the order gave me all the salsa, onions + cilantro, and limón I needed. Condiments are packaged individually in their own package and I appreciate the convenience, because I don't have to worry about the little cups opening and spilling in the bag, The tacos are packaged neatly in sturdy plates not wrapped in foil and covered with a plastic cover. The tacos are average size with mild meat portions, it's not the best and it's not the worse. I personally love the small tortillas, but that is up to interpretation based on preference. The drinks are packaged in little travel to go pouches, not cups which I also love. It reminds me of Mexico and the times I was given a drink in a "bolsa" - iykyk. Lastly, I found out they have drive-thru which I've never known. I've always passed it by because I didn't want to get off, but this drive-thru lane is a game changer. I will definitely be coming back again when we are in the area. I will stop here any day over waiting 40-60 mins for tacos/burritos elsewhere. Gosh! I almost forgot. The grilled onions and beans de olla that they offer are the cherry on top. We loved them. We have no pictures because we ate in our car. I do have a picture of my drink though. read more

First time here and definitely won't be the last! We were heading home from Silver Lake and craving tacos when we spotted this place on the map and decided to stop by. We used the drive-through, which was quick and easy. I ordered the tacos al pastor with an horchata, and wow--these tacos were tasty! I really liked that they package all the toppings separately, so the tortillas and meat stay fresh and you can add the cilantro and onions yourself. Best fast food taco spot to get the most bang for your buck! They're running a taco tuesday deal where it's only $1.89 for a taco and that includes the lengua and cabeza meats. My favorites here are the cabeza and the carne asada. The cabeza was super tender and the asada was super flavorful with each bite. All their salsas, cilantro, onions, and lemons are pre-packaged so it was super easy to collect for my to-go order and the each salsa was delicious, packing just the right amount of heat. I remember this place being good, but for some reason it went down hill. I ordered 2 sopes, 1 ultimate burrito, a super nacho, and 1 Tongue taco. The sope where hard and it had no flavor. The burrito, all the meat was at the bottom so for the whole burrito you only ate rice. The nachos, it just looked sad with a strip of avocado. My new go-to for quesadillas!! I FINALLY gave this place a try after passing by this place at least once weekly for years now. The super chicken quesadilla is soooooo good!!! The chicken is so tender, not burnt, and the flavor is amazing!! Not too salty and the portion is very decent for $10! The service was also super fast! 2-3 mins tops around 3pm on a Sunday. There was only one car in front of me in the drive thru. The only thing is I wish they used paper plates I instead of plastic. They gave me a lot of napkins and sauces. My daughter and Yelp friend AdtianaO, I were in the area and we decided to stop by and check out Tacos Gavilan, for late tacos before heading back to HB. Tacos Gavilan is located off Azusa Ave, in the city of West Covina right off the E 10 Freeway. Aka SGV I ordered the the sope - the corn base was light and fried to perfection. It was topped with a layer of fried beans, chicken, cream and a layer of cojica cheese. I was surprised it didn't have lettuce tomato, onions on top like most other places. My daughter ordered the taco plate w/rice and beans. We even ordered 2 plain Carne Asada tacos for our dog Hercules - he liked his tacos too! The service was fast - they delivered our to-go order pretty fast. The building reminds me of an In-N-Out - the indoor dining area is relatively big with a large counter and is very clean as well. They do have an area for their - condiments their salsa, pickled carrots ect. We ordered through the drive- thru - it was well lit and easy to see their digital menu board -which has a lot of awesome options to choose from. I will say that not many places have Sopes on their menu any more, and that's the reason I gave them a try. Party flavors in my mouth and would definitely reorder. The service was friendly when placing our order and it was ready pretty fast at the next window. I would definitely try their other options if I ever come across another Tacos Gavilan! My girlfriend and I, who are a same-sex couple, recently stopped at El Gavilan in West Covina to eat inside, and unfortunately the experience was very uncomfortable and unprofessional. My girlfriend asked the employees to open the restroom so she could use the women's bathroom. The employee at the counter unlocked it for her. As soon as she walked in, the employee turned to the other workers behind the counter and said something to them, and they began laughing and looking over at me while I waited. They continued to stare and give me dirty looks while we waited for our food. For context, my girlfriend is a woman but has short hair and was wearing shorts and a T-shirt. It felt like the employees were making assumptions about her and openly talking about us. Another woman who was there saw my girlfriend go into the women's restroom and then asked the staff if she could use the men's restroom instead, apparently because she felt uncomfortable. The employees allowed her to go into the men's restroom while a man was already inside, which made the situation even more awkward. What bothered me most was the lack of professionalism and respect. If the staff were unsure or had questions, they could have politely asked or clarified the situation. Instead, they chose to laugh, stare, and talk about customers. Everyone deserves to be treated with respect and basic decency, regardless of how they look or who they are with. As a same-sex couple, the way we were treated felt extremely uncomfortable and inappropriate. read more

This is my first time at Tacos Gavilan and I was really impressed with how fast the service was along with how clean the inside/outside of the restaurant is too. There is plenty of seating inside and a handful of tables outside, but we choose to go thru the drive through to place our order. The digital drive thru menu was well lit and very clear, we ordered a super chicken burrito, a carne asada taco and a chicken taco plate with rice. I really liked how the condiments are prepackaged, so you can avoid a mess going anywhere/everywhere - genius! The super burrito was my favorite as it had deliciously seasoned chicken with cheese, beans, rice and avocado. The rice by itself wasn't my favorite, but In the burrito, it was delicious! I enjoyed the chicken taco meat but the corn tortillas were a little too greasy for my liking. This tacos shop serves very cheap and delicious food. I ordered my food online and picked up the food fairly easily so service was efficient. There are also side dishes like pickled pepper, onions, lemon after you received your food. What I found interesting was that these side dishes comes prepackaged, asking to ketchup packet. This place never misses. Good prices for tacos. The meat is pretty good and flavorful. Carne asada tacos and chicken tacos are the best. I also tried a super mulita with carne asada and it was fire. Only complaint is I wish they used less single use plastic when giving out sides and stuff; but I understand that's the corporate side of things fault and not this specific location so I'm not letting it affect the overall rating. Came on a weekday during lunch and the service was fast and there plenty of seating. I ordered four tacos in total (asada and pastor). Both were delicious! The pastor was a lot juicier compared to the asada ones. It was very filling because they definitely loaded the taco! I liked how they had a bar section where you can grab the toppings. The service at this location is always fast and friendly, even on those busy nights. I appreciate that all condiments (onions, salsa, lemons) are pre packaged and their to-go orders are served on plates / in containers vs wrapped in foil, with the exception of the burrito.
