Tacos Hecho a Mano with Al Pastor
    Tiffany L.

Tacos Genesis is hands down my favorite taco truck in San Jose after I discovered and tried it for the first time! Now I get this place almost every time I'm craving some late night tacos. My go-to order is the super tacos (handmade tortillas, beans, and cheese) with al pastor. Their el pastor meat is the BEST al pastor I've ever tried!!! It's crispy, juicy, and just amazing. The way they grill their tortilla and meat with the handmade tortilla makes it so much better. They also have a lot of sauce option. The green sauce (the brighter green looking one) is my favoriteeeee. You can definitely taste how fresh it is and it goes well with the tacos. I've tried a lot of things on their menu and they're honestly all so good. I highly recommend trying the al pastor, tripas, suadero, and al pastor meats with handmade tortilla. They are a small business so I love going here whenever I'm craving a late night craving to support them because the workers are incredibly welcoming and sweet. There is usually no line to wait here, but if there is, they are super fast with taking and making your orders. The business also has some tables and chairs set up outside and inside as well (for bigger groups). I love Tacos Genesis and I hope they get the recognition and support they deserve!!

I ordered tripa tacos and birria tacos. Tripa was very crispy and flavorful, it tasted like bacon which i love. They have seatings in the restaurant and one table outside. It's nice that they open late until 3am. I will come back for more tripas

One thing that stands out here is that they had really fresh-tasting salsas. It made their tacos taste lighter and not as greasy as other tacos, which is a plus. However, it was missing the addictive factor for me, so not sure if I'd be back. The price of the tacos are comparable to that of other places in the area. I think I paid $22 for 6 tacos, but they also gave us a free bean taco to snack on while waiting, however we're not huge fans of beans, so we didn't touch it. I thought it was interesting that they took over the old Bo Da Restaurant space, but they set up a truck in front of the restaurant. Not sure if that's just a night-thing, since we did stop by around 9pm. Inside the eating area, they were blasting music and also had an additional self serve salsa bar. The people were friendly and food was decent, but not sure if I see myself coming back, since there's some better spots around the area.

Check out this taco spot located on the east side of San Jose on story rd! They serve some delicious tacos and birria style items! I got the Carne asada and birria tacos! Both were delicious and flavorful! Simple service! Fast and quick!

Seem like they open their taco truck along Story Road and Capitol Expressway. (I saw them at 2868 Story Rd) I really love how good the food is here. They are really known for their crispy tripe meat. You have the option to choose between a flour tortilla or a corn tortilla. The last time I was here, I got a free mulita. This time I got free ice cream. Great food, great service, great space!

I came here for the first time during a late Saturday night and I was pleasantly surprised with how much I enjoyed the food here. The place wasn't too busy so we didn't wait that long. They had a sauce bar in which you can just serve yourself. My favorite sauce was the bright verde sauce. A couple of their red sauces definitely had that heat. Wished they had orange sauce though. I tried the Al Pastor, Carne Asada and Tripa Crispy Tacos as well as the quesadilla. I recommend getting the tacos with cheese. They put the cheese under the meat so it makes the taco shell more durable and less messy to eat. The limes they provided were juicy and they provide radishes as well. For the quesadilla, they provide both with grilled onions as well. It was my first time trying the tripa and I didn't really enjoy it since it was too chewy for me. The rest of the meats tasted great though. The cashier was very friendly. They accept Zelle and cash here. I will definitely be going to this place again since the food is great and it isn't as crowded as other taco spots.

Decided to give this place a try and ordered the carne asada Super Taco. Had no idea they also offered hand made tortillas if you prefer that instead of the store bought ones. They have the doors open at Boda to eat your food inside along with a salsa station. The taco was mouth watering to say the least. Definitely coming back to try other items on the menu.

Cheese tripa tacos, extra crispy tripa and crispy tortilla

I've been obsessed over their tripa tacos here. Seriously obsessed. I've been here at least twice a week lately. Make sure to ask for extra crispy. They double wrap the tortilla for each taco but it's not heavy and I don't get sick of it, even after 5 tacos. They open late at 7pm during the weekdays (M-F); so come at 7:15pm if you don't want to wait. I'll be back regularly :) We ordered 18 tripa tacos once and he gifted us two extra crispy cheese tripa tacos; and it changed everything. Put cheese on your tacos; it's amazing.

Went here with my cousin on a Sunday afternoon after she's been raving about this place for weeks! I was so excited to grub after a relaxing massage. Yes I'm fueling my body with happiness after putting myself through a grueling (yet relaxing) thai massage...it's a reward. But on to the review about the taco joint.... We ordered 18 (yes that's right) tripe tacos, extra crispy. We probably cleaned them out of their tripe stock and had to run out to source a new cow :). Anyhow the tripe tacos did not disappoint and it was crispy like we requested. We ordered it with everything and took it to home to shyly pig out. The area is in a tented corner of an auto lot that's directly across from Pep boys. They have two long tables for seating and have a self serve salsa bar. I love the simple vibes here and would definitely return and order another 18 tacos. (:

I ordered from the truck, then went into the store to collect my drink, and then came back out to sit in the dining area, where I also collected any sauces I wanted. Definitely need to work for your meal and get your steps in. The condiments and sauces are in a cart with plastic cups with lids provided. There weren't that many options of sauces when I ate here but it was fine. The birrias and lengua tacos were so good. All the tacos came with two small tortillas to hold in the heaping amount of meat. The horchata here is had more cream than I'm used to. Like more milk was added or something, not enough spices or flavors added in IMO. Ordering was easy, I felt rushed, but it was the waiting to hear my number that was difficult. Listening for the number in the dining area while the music was blasting was difficult, so it's better to wait by the truck. Parking is limited but there are always cars coming and going so if you can wait a little, a spot will open up.

However wifey got really sick. It's Mother's Day today and she's stuck in bed. I ate 1/4 of her burrito but I'm fine. So not sure how to rate this. Taste is pretty good. We asked for no beans so it's a bit plain but I still enjoyed it. - Gringas is like a quesadilla with pastor. It's alright but not worth $10+. I'd rather get 3 tacos! - Carne asada meat has a nice Smokey flavor. However it's jerky like toughness and a bit dry. - Someone in another review was raving about this place having the best Al pastor. So all of that hype made it a bit of a downer since I find it mid. Service (3 stars) + Typical food truck style ordering but it's more of a trailer. They have a little salsa bar with about 4-5 sauce options. Ambiance (2 stars) - Too many loud cars passing while we're eating. I can barely have a conversation with the wifey not that we have a ton to talk about lol. - No restrooms nearby. Daughter had to use an emergency toilet that we bring. - Terrible parking where people park behind you and you can't get out quickly. Yes, it takes them awhile to realize they're in your way.

They serve it with pineapple, which is the way it's meant to be done and a detail that tells you they actually care about getting it right. These are easily some of the best tacos in San Jose, and I don't say that lightly given how much competition there is in the South Bay. But the drinks alone might be worth the trip. Their Horchata and Agua Fresca are genuinely among the best I've had anywhere in the Bay Area and that's a real statement in a region with no shortage of excellent options. The salsa bar is a nice bonus: a self-serve setup where you scoop what you want into containers, and they send you off with baggies of fresh cilantro and onion so you can finish the tacos exactly how you like them. Our waitress accidentally thought we had only ordered six tacos instead of twelve, so we initially received six tacos, one side of rice and beans, and were still waiting on our drinks. When she came by and noticed one of us wasn't eating, she asked if we were waiting on anything. We explained that we were still supposed to receive six more tacos, another side of rice and beans, and our drinks. I finally decided to give it a try after hearing about the restaurant from food reviewer Dave fiore text. As someone who absolutely loves tacos and is always on the hunt for great local taco spots, I was excited to see how this place compared to some of my favorites. I ordered four different tacos, and overall, they were pretty good. They weren't bad by any means, but they also didn't quite blow me away. The meat was cooked well, the tortillas were fresh, and the tacos had good flavor. The salsa was decent too, although I personally prefer something with a little more kick. Everyone has different tastes, so this is just my opinion. One thing I really appreciated was how clean and organized the restaurant was. You can tell they take pride in keeping the dining area nice and welcoming. The staff was friendly, and my food came out quickly. It's always a good sign when a restaurant pays attention to both cleanliness and customer service. I've eaten at a lot of taco places throughout the Bay Area, so I naturally compare every new place to some of my favorites. While El Halal Mexican Restaurant didn't make the top of my list, I still had a good experience and I'm glad I finally gave it a shot. Not every restaurant has to be your favorite to be worth visiting. I also like supporting family-owned businesses because I know how much hard work goes into running a local restaurant. They deserve credit for creating a clean, welcoming place and serving quality food. Will I come back? Maybe. If I do, I'd probably try something different on the menu instead of the tacos. Sometimes a restaurant's best dish isn't the first thing you order, and I'd be interested in seeing what else they have to offer. Overall, I'd give El Halal Mexican Restaurant a solid 4 out of 5 stars. It was a good experience, I'm happy I finally got to try it, and if you're in the Willow Glen area, it's worth stopping by and deciding for yourself.
