Quick bite to eat after doing some real estate previews, imagine who walks in but the lady who showed us some homes in Indio with her husband and daughter, good confirmation of our choice. We had several tacos, pastor, carne asada and chicken, all legit street tacos each served true street taco style on 2 small very fresh corn tortillas with onion and cilantro. Add some salsa and yum, good stuff. I think the pastor was the best. Added a side of beans and rice and we were set. All very good and tasty. Definitely will be back if we're hungry and in Indio. How have I never tried this place? I'm honestly surprised that more people don't talk about it. I was craving Mexican food and saw this place on Yelp. The tacos called out to me! We drove out to the location and realized it's right next to the carniceria I always go to! I never even realized or looked! We parked out front and saw bars on the doors that made it look not only uninviting, but also closed. The sign said open, and even though it looked scary, my heart was already set on tacos. I opened the door only to realize it wasn't scary at all! Music was playing, the place was clean with a few tables to sit, and the lady behind the register was very friendly and didn't make fun of my inability to pronounce Spanish words! I tried the carne asada tacos, carnitas tacos, guacamole, and horchata. Everything was delicious, minus the horchata. The horchata was really sweet, it kind of tasted more like a frosting drink. My overall thoughts on the prices; Del Taco and Taco Bell sell tacos for about the same prices, some even more expensive. Here, I feel you pay for quality and atmosphere. As it stands, there are one too many simple flaws to recommend going out of your way. Both the horchata and jamaica frescas were watery and only tasted sweet, al pastor and carne asada lacked seasoning or a grilled flavor, with the asada looking steamed more than seared. The City of Los Angeles has been dishing me up some of the best tacos I've ever had over the past four months since I moved back; and while I never thought that a taco shop in the desert would be able to compete, Tacos Gonzalez has done exactly that both times I've been there thanks largely in part to stellar service and some of the best chorizo I've ever had in my life. Star 1: How were the service and atmosphere? Tacos Gonzalez is a fantastic mom and pop operation. While you place your order at the counter, you pay after you're finished, and there's good reason for that - you're going to want to order more tacos. Additionally of note is the great location just off the highway. Star Granted. Star 2: How were the portions relative to the cost? Tacos at Tacos Gonzalez are on the expensive side at $1.89 a pop, but when you consider the overhead and table service that's not a bad price point. Burritos and other goods are priced fairly as well. Star Granted. Stars 3 and 4: How was the food? All of the meats at Tacos Gonzalez are good, and my staple order of a pastor taco satisfied my craving. Having said that, the house ground chorizo was highly recommended, and it absolutely blew me away to the point where I ordered two more chorizo tacos. I was in La Quinta and hungry for some street taco Mexican food so I did a yelp search and came across Gonzalez Tacos. It has an average of 4.5 stars and as I was going thru all the 5 star reviews I knew I had to come to this place. When I arrived it was busy so I felt good thinking it must be a really good taco place and go hand in hand with all those great reviews. Customer base was Asian and American, didnt see any Hispanics. I was immediately greeted by a wonderful man who provided a table and quick and great customer service. I ordered chips and salsa, carne asada burrito, a asada quesadilla, asada tacos and al pastor tacos. The salsa's were just okay at this point when a true Mexican knows if the food is going to he good you always go by how the salsa is and in this case the salsa didnt impress therefore, I was a little concerned about how the food was going to taste. Food came out and although it was good it wasnt 4 or 5 star worthy! So here I am left a little disappointed because all those 5 star reviews really left a lot to say and didnt meet my expectations. Food is decent but I dont think I would go out of my way to come here. I will visit when in the area only if I feel like having a quick Mexican fix but in the meantime I will continue to search for another fast Mexican food joint that is really authentic and full of flavor! read more

Love this little taco place! It's across the street from the Shield Date Farm, and you'd likely drive right by if not for all the great reviews. We love the tacos - have even brought out of town friends here to enjoy a great lunch. My favorite is the al pastor, but there are many to choose from. When we ordered for dine-in, the woman advised us to wait to pay in case we wanted more. She was right!
