I'm from the RGV, and these are the tacos that remind me of home! Yes, it's a food truck, but there is covered patio seating for plenty. Cash only or Zelle. Sometimes it can get crowded, so make sure to know what you want when you walk up to the cashier and listen closely for them to call your number. Salsas and paper towels were scattered around the dining room. Many families and couples enjoy this place, and will occasionally feed the neighborhood cat who walks around. Love that you can recycle your glass bottle of Mexican Coke by placing it in the return bin. Try the tacos for sure and definitely the potato!

The trompo tacos were very good, some of the best al pastor I had, Asada was good too green salsa was the spicer one of the two bring cash they only accept that or Zelle no card

Top 3 Trompo in the H easily and they're open late even on normal week days (11:30pm). Service is pretty good for a taco truck, they have a seating area that's heated and one of the ladies brought my food to my car for me in the midst of our mini winter. Trompo 5/5 Bistec 3.8/5

Never am I in this area but I've heard that there is good food spots around. This joint right here was GREAT. Pulled in around noon, no one was there besides myself. Surprisingly, I expected it to be busy. Sat instantly, enough seating area. Started with their complementary chips and salsas. I ordered their 5 tacos with cheese and avocado. The meats were bistec and trompo with a side of horchata. The 5 tacos come with papas and grilled onions. The trompo had a smokey flavor to it which I enjoyed a lot. They're not STINGY with how much meat they stuff the tacos. Unfortunately I didn't get to try the bistec for the same reason. Easily full with 4. I wanted to try their frijoles charros but they had just ran out. Our waitress was super sweet and friendly. Not complaints whatsoever. Definitely will return when I am in the area.

I had by far the best street tacos I've tried in Houston so far at Tacos La Sultana in east Houston. They are a food truck with a small indoor seating area the parking is pretty cramped but you can also just park on the street. This place was busyyyyy, so much people were coming and going for their orders. They only take cash and Venmo ($1 up charge for Venmo). I decided to get 4 tacos de trompo ($2.25 each). It comes LOADED with meat. They give like double the amount that the average taco spot gives you for each taco. I also got some squatted onions, lime, and cilantro and onions to top off my tacos. They gave me a green sauce packet as well. The tacos were piping hot. The meat was so tender and fatty. The onions provide great contrast in texture and the green sauce wasn't that spicy but delicious. I later found an empty table and was able to use their bottled green and red sauce. These sauces were sooo much more spicier than the one they gave me in the green packet. Every taco was so good and it really filled me up since they were loaded. I will definitely be back

Best freaking mini tacos in Houston! They are authentic and delicious. The hamburgers and frijoles a la charra are really good too.

From now on, these are my favorite tacos in the Houston area. Yes, they are on the sketchy side of town, but who cares? The pastor is on point. It tastes what a pastor should taste--not all that neon orange crappy meat from other places that dare to call it pastor, not here folks, just like if I were in Mexico City. It's worth the drive into the dark side of town, lol. Highly recommend it. The asada is not the main attraction; you can pay with cash or Zelle.

I am originally from the same town as these tacos so I jumped to the opportunity to eat some real tacos and they didn't disappoint. Meat is delicious, portions are HUGE and the sodas are ice cold.

Broooo the pastor here is insane. Spot is legit. Such a hidden gem. I'm so happy I decided to come here. The trompo taco is the way to go. For $2.25 each it's such a steal. It's small but loaded with meat. The green spicy sauce was crazy spicy in the best way. I'm a very spicy eater so this is not for the weak. Decent amount of outdoor seating. Cash or Zelle only.

We specifically came for the trompo tacos and although it was cooked nicely (crispy edges without it being too dry), it was flavorless. I could not taste a hint of salt or any kind of seasoning at all. The saving grace was the spicy salsa verde and lime! Husband said the same thing about the Trompo and mentioned the bistec was better. For the record, I really really wanted to like this place. Note: cash or zelle only

Inside it is a one room eatery with counter service. My first visit was to try the Birria Burrito for $16 with the meal delivered about 10 minutes later. It consisted of their Birria meat cooked for 4 hours mixed with chorizo, cheese, rice, beans and sour cream all wrapped in a large flour tortilla seasoned with their special red colored seasoning. With the meal came a cup of consomne'. Guy Fieri would say, Welcome to Flavortown! It was delicious. The Birria beef was so tender and the flavored flour tortilla with that proprietary red seasoning they use was perfect. It was a very filling meal and well worth the price. So much so, I thought about it the next day. Another visit was to try one of their specialities, the Quesabirria for $14. This meal consisted of 3 grilled and crispy corn tortillas seasoned again with their special red colored magic dust. The tortillas had the delicious Birria meat and cheese inside and I again loved them. The tortillas are only slightly crispy and the meat, cheese and tortillas memorable. This meal also came with a cup of consommé for dipping. Another nice thing about eating here is the customer service. The lady at the counter was very friendly and helpful. The guy bussing the tables acted more like the owner than an employee with his helpfulness and the actual manager came out to check on us. Impressive for a counter service restaurant. Tacos Dona Lena deserves its reputation as one of the best restaurants of its kind. Incredible food and employees all at very reasonable prices. When I think of tacos and burritos, this place is what comes to mind!

Allow me to be Review No. 1,100 following my visit to this wonderful culinary gem yesterday…read more By default, Spring Branch is Houston's Koreatown, but it's not unusual to find establishments with Spanish-language branding on them throughout the neighborhood. And Tacos Doña Lena, on which I'll heap tons of praise on, is among them. A group of friends and I had supper here before a live show down the street at Eighteen Ten Ojeman. Upon seeing the storefront when we pulled into the parking lot, my first thought was, "Okay, this is legit Mexican, not Tex-Mex." The interior is quite small with some tables and an ample late Saturday afternoon crowd. What caught my eye is how the environment is what you might expect to find at a family-run taqueria off the beaten path. Rock en Español blaring from the sound system. Colorful papel picado draped from the ceiling. A framed Mexican flag and several references to the central Mexican municipality of Guanajuato. The intoxicating smell of spice-laced grilled beef wafting through the air. Simply put, we're not in Kansas anymore, Toto. I glanced at the menu. There are numerous, delicious-sounding items that happen to be wallet-friendly, a bit cheaper than if you were to go to Gringos or Jimmy Changas. According to a mutual, the tacos here are the main draw, but what really caught my attention and appetite was the ramen birria. Mujeres y caballeros (ladies and gentlemen), let me proclaim that Tacos Doña Lena turns a noodle dish with origins in Japan and is a known staple in college dorm rooms into a must-try on this part of America's fourth-largest city. Two amazing food cultures unite for a fiery meeting of the minds. Anchored by a rich, tasty consomé that's spicy but not enough to where you need to drink multiple glasses of water, there's a prime mix of ramen noodle, beef birria, cheese, fried egg, rabanos, garbazo, and corn accompanied by cilantro, onions, and a pair of fried tostadas. I was so impressed with how the contents of the ramen blended together. Since it was ramen after all despite the south of the border touchup, I still ate it the traditional way: pick up the noodles and sip the soup. There was so much that I had no choice but to put it in a takeout container. Sure, Spring Branch may be home to some great traditional Korean restaurants, but don't sleep on Tacos Doña Lena.

Since it was my first time here, I ended up ordering 1 chorizo and 1 asada taco, churros, limon aguas, and my friend got the asada taco as well and a hortchata! Since it was super busy (especially on saturday night) it was about a 30 minute wait foe our food but it was well worth it! They hand out free chicharrones and they were super crunchy and a nice snack while we waited for our food. The limon aguas was super refreshing especially in the summer heat and the horchata was really good! We sat at the counter top that overlooks the kitchen. I love that the open kitchen concept so you can see them making your food right in front of you! Everything smelled so good so I was excited for my food. I love that they give radishes, cucumbers, and plenty of limes on the side. I definitely love all of the toppings and the more the better! I tried all of the salsas and the salsa de chile de arbol was by far my favorite! super spicy but had so much flavor. The chorizo was good but a little dry for my liking. I did just want to try it so I can try more than one flavor but I think I would get it again as a breakfast taco with egg instead. The asada was my favorite of the two so much flavor and plenty of meat! I was content with these 2 tacos but I could have definitely eaten more if we didn't order churros as well! The churros came with classic condensed milk and dulce de leche which is just carmelized condensed milk. The churros were crunchy and warm on the outside and had a chewy texture like mochi on the inside! Super yummy and not too sweet! I liked both sauces and would definitely get this again. Overall, I had a great experience and I will be craving the tacos until the next time I can come back! I can't wait to try a lot of their other menu items as well. Definitely recommend!
