If you want to find Tacos Sahuaro, just look for the colorful painted building on 32nd street in Phoenix. These guys have been making good Mexican food for over a decade. Tacos Sahuaro is counter-service and has a large menu on the wall as you walk in. As you are ordering, you can't help but notice the large aguas frescas containers on the counter. They have melon cantaloupe, pineapple, horchata and cucumber-chia as their flavors. Tacos Sahuaro is family-owned and they use recipes that have been passed down in their family. They have several meat options to choose from like carne asada, al pastor, chicken, and chicharrón. They also make their gorditas, sopes, and quesadillas by hand. When I came here, I ordered tacos and a mini quesadilla stuffed with carne asada. The carne asada is fantastic! I love that they chop their meat up so fine. I also like that they stuff their tacos with lots of onion and cilantro. So much flavor! One of these times I need to try their chicharrón tacos. First off I love the exterior of building which sets the tone for authenticity which continues inside. There are 7 or 8 different tacos to choose from as well as a few other dishes. However, I came for tacos which did not disappoint. I had 2 chicken tacos and one fish taco. All the meats were perfectly seasoned and grilled to perfection in warm, grilled tortillas. When I was in Rocky Point, Mexico, back in the early 2000's, I had my first *REAL* street taco experience. Sitting at a table with friends with a tray of accoutrements (radish, lime, cucumber, hot sauces, diced onion, cilantro and a bunch of other things) and having taco after taco delivered in trays to our table, I thought to myself, "I can't believe there isn't a place like this in Phoenix." Years ago I read somewhere (maybe Yelp?) this place had the best street tacos in Phoenix. Years since, I've been coming here when I'm in the mood for street tacos. I've tried them all and they really are the closest thing to that taco stand in Mexico. I almost always order several dozen, of all the varieties, neatly foil wrapped on trays, to take home and enjoy on the patio with family, friends and cervesas. They have a more extensive menu, but I couldn't rate anything else except for the HUNDREDS of tacos I've eaten over the years. Well friends, i'm happy to report that Tacos Sahuaro lived up to their hype! After reading so much about it lately, I told my husband that we HAD to go for dinner last night. And also because this hot (temperature), pregnant momma didn't want to cook. After you order and sit at a table, they bring you a bowl of cucumbers and limes, spicy carrots/onions/jalapeños, and hot sauces. Yes, please! Cucumbers and hot sauce are now a favorite snack of mine. We ordered tacos (of course) and I chose: pollo, carne asada, and al pastor. OH MY GOODNESS, the al pastor was my favorite. It was seasoned so well. But what I loved about their tacos is that they're so simple - tasty tortillas (i'm guessing homemade), meat, onions, and cilantro. Then, you can add hot sauce and other goodies to them if you'd like. The flavors are so well balanced that you don't even need all the toppings (and this is coming from a sauce freak). Love this little gem. The staff is very friendly as they greet you at the counter where the order is placed. They serve courtesy pickled carrots, fresh cucumbers, and pickled onions instead of chips and salsa which is a unique twist. Very refreshing and healthy. Their tacos are amazing. I think I found my new Taco Tuesday spot for the East Phoenix area. So I came here to try the carne asada tacos because I been on the hunt for a place that has bomb ones. After tasting the asada, I have to say this is one of the top spots for that option. It wasn't chewy and yet the meat was nicely cooked. The tortillas was also on point and made me feel like I was enjoying a true authentic flavor all in one bite. The watermelon Agua Fresca was also very tasty. I love that they have Mexican glass bottled sodas to order from. The red salsa is spicy so people beware. Green salsa was okay, nothing too special. When you walk in make sure you secure your seat, then go order your meal up front, and then one of the workers will bring your food to your table once it's ready. The parking situation is kind of limited so just keep that in mind if you plan coming. FYI- On Taco Tuesdays each taco is $2 but these tacos are loaded with your meat choice. (Great value) read more
