The juiciest Al pastor ever! We stopped by when we went to the grand opening of universal plaza today and dang now we want to go every weekend. We got a couple pastor and asada tacos, pollo torta, and pollo quesadilla. They were all so good. A inhaled the torta and I had to steal it from him. The pastor and asada were so juicy and flavorful. They brought out three salsas to go with and they were all so fresh and flavorful. I love how they all came with healthy doses of radishes, lemon, and onion cilantro, and freshly grilled onion! Service was quick and the boy that served us was super attentive to details. We can't wait to go back and get mulitas. We noticed them on the menu afterwards. It's behind the car wash with the coffee cart Bulls and Brews.

I was craving nachos and almost passed by this spot until I caught the lights from the corner of my eye. It's the hidden food truck pod off of Main Street in Tigard. There are only two trucks and a really nice outdoor seating area. It was a cold Friday night and there was no one around. I was greeted in a friendly way by the family working there. I ordered my nachos that were made quickly. The dish was tasty it would have been better if there was more pork. The jalapeños were so fresh and flavorful. Portion was good . I hope that people frequent this pod. Tigard needs to find ways of making it more visible - perhaps marketing the spot with music after the jewelry business closes. Parking is also a little tricky but side streets are available.

Okay so, I have to confess, we originally wanted to go to a different taco truck near here but the hours were wrong and it was unfortunately closed when we got there. But it was a blessing in disguise! We were SO blown away by Tacos Tenexpa. I was hesitant because I love to research a place before we eat there, but we were super hungry so we said let's try it! The taco price scared us at first, because it seemed a little pricey being $3, and we just didn't know if it was worth that price. But again we were hungry, so we ordered 4 al pastor tacos, and 4 asada. We decided to eat there because they had lots of available outdoor seating. They took maybe 2 minutes tops to make our order, they were super quick! When we walked up to get our order the owner was there and he told us to go sit over at a different table that had heating over it. (Maybe he had seen us shivering while waiting for our food, we're still adjusting to the cold in the PNW! Lol) Anyways, I thought it was really nice that he made sure we would at least be somewhat warm while eating there! Okay, so let's get to these tacos. These were no joke, the BEST tacos we've had in Oregon. They were packed with meat, and had so much flavor! They were also super juicy. I made sure to include close up pictures of the tacos so you can see. A lot of places tend to have dry carne asada so we were very pleased! The salsas were also really good. My husband and I loaded our tacos up with both of them! They weren't too spicy, they add a nice kick which we like. We have been to a decent amount of Mexican restaurants, and food trucks here in Oregon. Most have been pretty disappointing. The food tends to be bland, dry, or just OK. And it really surprised me because they usually had really good reviews! It left us missing our usual taco place down in Vegas, and questioning if we'll ever find a good taco spot here in Oregon. Well i'm happy to say that Taco Tenexpa proved us wrong! They do tacos RIGHT. They are so worth that $3 per taco price. My husband and I were so happy after eating there. It left us wanting more even though we were STUFFED! I wish we lived closer but we'll definitely come back when we're craving tacos again. I HIGHLY recommend Tacos Tenexpa, you won't be disappointed! Their address seems to be incorrect on Yelp, hopefully they correct it soon but it's 12425 SW Main St. - they are right behind the Tigard Chiropractic Clinic! :)

When we walked in for a Sunday dinner, we were greeted with the smell of roasting chicken and charcoal, a promising sign from the very start. It was pretty busy inside, but after ordering at the counter, the food only took about 15 minutes to arrive. Whole Chicken Meal ($27.74) - The meal comes with two 12 oz sides, an 8oz salsa, and either corn or flour tortillas. For the sides we went with the classic Mexican Rice and the Refried Beans. Both are pretty standard stuff from a Mexican restaurant. The rice is tender with still distinct grains, has an reddish color from tomatoes, and adds a scant amount of veggies mixed through. The beans are mostly smooth throughout, fatty and creamy. We went with the corn tortillas, of which they provide a whole stack of twelve, warmed until steaming, making them hot, soft, and pliable, perfect to eat with the chicken and sides. The chicken is legitimately amazing. Basically the entire restaurant smells like chicken fat being charred over mesquite. It's a mesmerizing smell that made me salivate upon walking in. The chicken is whole roasted with the dark meat and wings being cooked until succulent and juicy. The interior of the breasts are a bit dry, but there's not much that can be done with this cooking method! Otherwise, the char is excellent, creating an almost crust-like nature to the skin and the spice mix imbues a yellow glow to the entire tray. They give so much food that we only finished perhaps a quarter of it. We ended up bringing the rest home on our drive up the next day and ate it for another couple of meals. (5/5) I especially love their salsa bar off to the side of the main counter. There's so much variety, there's surely something to please anyone. They have a mild tomato, a mild but smoky, a spicy and fruity, a green tangy tomatillo, a creamy avocado, a crunchy fresh pico de gallo, a smoky and spicy, and a tangy and spicy salsa - basically all combinations someone could ask for. Even the spiciest additions are still very tolerable to my tastes. We were impressed enough to visit again the next day for lunch: Supreme Burrito al Pastor ($14.37) - This is hefty burrito, almost Mission-sized, being around 4 inch in diameter with the weight to match. It's first filled with plenty of Mexican rice, same as with the meal. For some reason, this time, the rice is hard and tough, like they had reached down to scrape the bottom of the rice cooker. It would likely be the most coveted portion of rice in a tagine or clay pot, but in a burrito, the toughness doesn't work well. On top of the rice are the refried beans, spooned over intermittently. It adds creaminess and fat to the otherwise dry exterior layers. Then the layer of meat begins - cubed pork, marinated in a savory and sweet sauce, then mixed up with chopped pineapples. It's more adobada than al pastor, and is on the sweeter end of things with the pineapple. The spice mixture isn't the most notable; they definitely focus on the chicken at El Jefe vs. the pork. Veggies, including lettuce and a pico de gallo mix cover the meat, followed by thinly shredded cheese and sour cream, which is thick and rich, perhaps more resembling crema than cream, and some guacamole, tangy and fatty. It's not the most even application - for example, the guac only covers one end of the burrito while the sour cream covers the other end. (4/5) I have to say, the chicken served at EL Jefe Grill is perfection. I would revisit just for that. Bathrooms - Two unisex rooms Note: El Jefe charges a 2.9% credit card fee. This is displayed at the register, but they have their POS set up incorrectly. Firstly, they lump the cost into the menu item instead of separating it out into a fee. Secondly, they actually charge a random fee rather than 2.9%. For example, the whole chicken meal is 3.1% and the supreme burrito is 2.7%. Very bizarre. I reported it to their management so hopefully it gets fixed soon.

The portion sizes are great and we definitely took home leftovers. The staff was so friendly and accommodating. You really felt welcome! I'm interested to go back and try the family chicken dinner package. It looks like such a great value.

I was originally going to go to taco bell (what a mistake that would have been). I saw this as I was driving by and thought I should give it a try. The beef tacos came out wonderfully like little steak bites in corn shells. Just the right amount of spice and veggies. I will definitely stop back when I'm in the Tigard area as this was just to tasty to pass up again. They do have indoor dining too I just didn't stop inside. So, I cannot comment on the ambiance of the dining room. Don't pass this one up.

Their breakfast burritos are tasty, simple, and while sometimes inconsistent, are still a nice warm meal first thing on a Saturday. However, in the last few months, every time I enter, there's a Sonos speaker that is playing music ON BLAST. It's been in a few different locations; over the condiment bar, or behind the register near the kitchen, and at such a volume that I could barely hear the employee at the register, and I had to raise my voice to be heard by them. Additionally, the employee that normally works the register does the bare minimum you would expect for someone taking your order at a register. This is both a good thing and a bad thing. I get my order out in in a timely manner, but I get the sense that, while this is a family-run restaurant, they're not necessarily including their patrons as part of that family. I think their main challenge is their drive thru. They seem to have one person working the register, drive thru, and handling incoming phone orders the majority of the times I've come in. I'll never skip out on this place, but I avoid dining in anymore. You don't come for the vibes or service, really just a quick and tasty meal.
