To start we had picadillo (beef) and pastor (pork) Empanadas, guacamole with smoked corn and the quesabirria tacos. Everything was really good. So many delicious items to choose from! Hubby had the street corn and chicken chipotle enchiladas. He devoured it all! We have had the birria pizza before and it's so filling and flavorful. Menu is a bit pricey but the food can be shared. Tonight my fiancé and I wanted Mexican and decided to try out Tacoyote since we were in the area. They had outside seating and were very friendly and welcoming us to the place. The service was amazing and our server was very quick to offer suggestions and his opinion on the menu. The digital menu was cool but I thought it would be what I ordered from, rather than the full service we got. It got a little confusing but overall it was great. The guacamole was fresh and seasoned perfectly as well as the tacos and burrito we ordered. I think my biggest complaint is the pricing of their menu. The food is great and I want to support small businesses but to charge almost $25 for three tacos and no sides is a little steep. The burrito was delicious but it was almost $20 and didn't have a lot inside of it. I'd like to come back to try other things but the steep pricing really deters me from trying to come back. I want to say upfront this isn't personal and I'm not trying to hurt anyone's feelings. I know how much work goes into opening a place. But people also work hard for their money and going out to eat should feel worth it. I really wanted to love Tacoyote but the overall experience felt off. The space is very closed in with solid dark black doors, no visibility outside, and no music when I went. It honestly felt a little uncomfortable, not warm or welcoming. I felt like I was in a bunker the whole time, it's super claustrophobic. The ordering setup is confusing. You're expected to scan a menu, but service inside was spotty likely due to being bunkered in completely so I had to ask for one. There's also a fast food style ordering board, but the prices feel more like a sit down restaurant. It doesn't really know what it wants to be. The food was okay, but not memorable. I paid $17 for three tacos with rice and beans and nothing felt fresh or unique, no cool sauces from scratch using fresh chilis and veggies, just plain. The presentation tries to be elevated, but the quality doesn't match the price. I don't mind spending money on great food, but this just didn't feel like a good value. We ordered the queso mushroom and fries which was a delight and could not stop eating. My husband ordered a Tripleta 3 meat sandwhich which was good. I ordered a mole enchilada which the taste was different but a good different. Service excellent and staff overall nice. What we didn't like and felt like this was extremely pricey was the 3 leches piece of cake was $11.95 for 1 piece of cake is not only pricey but cmon it's a piece of cake. This is only thing I did not agree with and would not have purchased. Any other typical Spanish restaurant or take out your paying $6 for a slice of tres leches or flan. So for this I would say not worth the price . But speaking outside of pricey desert l, food was overall good. We got takeout from Tacoyote over the weekend and really enjoyed everything! We called in our order and it was ready in 20 minutes! We ordered the Birria pizza, chicken quesadilla, cheese empanadas, and two burritos. We all really liked the pizza, the flavor was really great and the sauce to dip it in really made it! Went to Tacoyote for lunch and was really impressed. The place has a great vibe and the food felt very authentic. We started with the guacamole, which was fresh, flavorful, and had just the right amount of kick. For tacos, we tried the al pastor, Baja shrimp, and shredded chicken. All of them were solid, but the Baja shrimp was easily my favorite. The shrimp was cooked perfectly and the flavors in that taco worked really well together. After hearing that Tacoyote recently opened in Moorestown, NJ, and discovering it shares ownership with Coyote Crossing in Conshohocken, PA, I was immediately intrigued. I wanted to love it, BUT you walk in and it feels like something you'd see in LA - like Instagram posts photo ops and cool decor but no music, no warmth from the staff. It was very tight in there and we were a party of 10 So we took up like half the restaurant. From the second I sat down I felt rushed. Food came out too quickly. Didn't even offer an actual menu but only a QR code and service was dodgy bc we legit were in a bunker. Food was decent, guac good, still very pricey for what it was. The wait staff constantly came over to ask if I was done which I wasn't because I like to do xo and graze and take my time. The ambiance was great, cool new vibes with great decor. The tacos were decent, they didn't come with anything on the side and be prepared to pay $18+ for 2 tacos. Not sure they are worth $9 each as they are street taco size. Additionally, the kids meal for chicken tacos comes with chicken on a dry corn tortilla for $13. For a kid, they should have sour cream or some cheese on top. We added cheese on the side and it cost $5+ for a small cup of shredded cheese. Vibes were good, food isn't that good. Food is below average with very high costs. Horchata and the queso was very grainy. The guacamole didn't taste freshly made, very potent onion flavor. Tortillas on the tacos didn't feel fresh, it tasted stale. The tortillas were ripping when I went to pick up from the taco stand, which is interesting since they already felt thicker than a usual taco tortilla. The Birria beef burrito was mediocre. The beef was poorly seasoned, it needed some new life. The mint cheese in my empanada, was also very interesting. Service was very good though, very attentive. We are so happy Tacoyote has opened and have already been twice. Everything we have tried has been terrific and the service is very welcoming and friendly. The steak in particular is extremely high quality and can taste that it is cooked on wood flame. We have been waiting for something like this to open and it has even exceeded our hopes. I was super excited to try this place after months of waiting and it did not disappoint! The decor was amazing, dark walls but with bright colors and beautiful paintings of traditional Mexican culture. The food and service were great, especially for opening weekend! The guacamole was very fresh, the pizzas were so good (like Mexican flatbreads) and the al pastor tacos were super succulent. I have been watching this place in the making for over a year since I live and work in Moorestown for 30 years. I was really looking forward to it finally opening. Well, what a tremendous disappointment. Not sure about all the comments and hype about the great decor because it is SO DARK you cannot tell what's in your food. Maybe during the day it's better but it is literally a nightclub atmosphere as far as lighting goes, even the bathroom is totally decorated black. To me that is not a great restaurant vibe. Club yes, restaurant no. Onto the food.... Mediocre is being kind. I ordered two soft tacos. They have different protein options so I wanted one shrimp and one beef. NOPE!!!!! You can't do that they have to be the both the same. Seriously???? So one of the people I was with said lets split, so we did. It was $ 17.95 for two soft tacos - that's it, my side dish was a slice of lime. Come on.......throw a scoop of rice and beans in with that for that kind of money for gosh sakes. My dish was really nothing special, basic mexican fare with nothing that stood out. There were 9 of us...no one had anything great to say about their meal. No one. Speaking again of how dark it is, there are no menus, you scan and see the menu on your phone (tacky, this is not covid) OR you look at fast food style TV screens up on the wall (even more tacky). If they did have physical menus you wouldn't be able to read them without a spotlight. This is such a shame. I had such high hopes since the owners have a long time and very successful restaurant in the King of Prussia area. Oh well, I won't be recommending or returning unless there are some changes.
