I stayed with Jalapeños because they were still good and close, but over the last couple of years the quality has gone to hell while the prices went up. On the hunt for a new place out of necessity, we tried the Taco House by pure chance - and guess who owns it? The Merinos! ! This was like coming home again. Like putting on a comfy sweater! The food was top notch, flavorful, and plentiful at completely reasonable prices! It was everything I remembered and more! I ordered the BBQ beef tacos, my wife got the Bang Bang Shrimp tacos, and we split an order of the Mexican street corn dip with homemade chips. You can see them below (we were gonna post pics of the tacos too but we were in a happiness-induced feeding frenzy). Great friendly service, cool ambience and well worth the extra five minutes of drive time. If you love great authentic Mexican food, this my friends is IT. We can't wait to go back. They have a thick, very pretty, sturdy cover. They provide the prices for different meat options. I appreciate that many menu items can be or are gluten free. Ambience: 5 stars. I am a total sucker for supporting small, privately owned businesses! Bonus points for being immigrant/POC/Black-owned business! The restaurant was small but still with a good amount of wiggle room for dining in. Everything was clean and somewhat modern for what was described to me as "a hole in the wall" (in a good way), as I was expecting it to be a little dated and dingy. It wasn't. It was bright, cool, and airy. Service: 3-stars. service was mid. Our server didn't seem overly-excited to be there. He communicated well, but with very little friendliness or enthusiasm. I'd say, at best, his demeanor was neutral, and I can live with that, considering I've encountered a lot of times where people in the service industry act like they don't appreciate your business and are doing you a favor just by taking your order, smh. Food: 3.5 stars. Presentation was beautiful! Very well-done! Unfortunately, I found my tres moles enchiladas lacking that "pow" in taste that I love about mole. I also love my enchiladas drowned in mole sauce, especially eating with chicken breast, which can be a very mild/bland and dry meat. The chicken itself wasn't necessarily dry, but because it was chicken breast, and the feel of the dish was on the dry side. That being said, my fellow diners LOVED their dishes and said they'd come back again! Unfortunately, they don't provide reviews on Yelp, so I invite you to take my review as a grain of salt and try this restaurant out for yourself.

In the area we used to live in, carnitas was generally served as shredded pork. Here, it was chunks of meat and I was a little anxious that they would be tough. But oh, the meat was so tender! I barely touched it with my fork and it fell apart! I barely had to chew it. I was really only chewing the tortilla. It was flavorful without being too spicy, so the taste of the carnitas could shine through. Honestly, this place is a little unassuming hole in the wall type of place in a weird strip mall that also has a surgery center and a gym in it. On top of that, the pico had really big chunks of jalapeño, which made the flavor much stronger than expected. I think chopping the jalapeños smaller would help balance the flavor better. Overall, the burritos were still tasty, the portions were generous, and for the price it was a pretty solid meal--just a few small things could make it a lot better.

They give you either a red spicy sauce or a green version. I loved the carnitas one with the green sauce combo. At $2.75 each, don't expect Taco Bell's processed flavors. As a plus, you can grab you a bag of that Ariel laundry detergent that smells so so good, and lots of other Mexican imported goods.
