We came to Tadeo's at 8:30 PM on Saturday night as a party of 2. We were the only ones there! But we had walked around downtown Bellingham and many of the food places were closed early (for a Saturday night). Our server was delightful. We were seated and had some chips and salsa within the first two minutes of arriving. She was attentive and took good care of us. We ordered their house guacamole with our chips and they came in this cute little bowl :) see the photo! It was cute to look at and delicious to eat. I ordered the Chicken Fajita Quesadilla. This was so good. The dishes it was served on were very VERY hot! It was sizzling and smelled heavenly. I loved the sauce that the chicken was prepared in. Their tortillas were fresh too. This used to be my go to for chile relleno. The last 3 times the relleno was crunchy, not cooked. Ew. So tonight I gave them another try. I ordered an enchilada. And a side of rice and beans. As sides it cost 11 dollars but I was charged 15 bux. Also I ordered a margarita from the happy hour menu I was given but charged full price. I am so done. This restaurant serves tasty food in a comfortable setting. They have a great selection of enchiladas and combo meals. The mole enchiladas are my new favorite; the rich creamy mole sauce is perfectly seasoned and delicious. I've also tried the carne asada platter and it was very tasty as well. They have iced horchata coffee, Jarritos, margaritas and other happy hour drinks. The exposed brick, open kitchen and booth seating maximized the admittedly limited square footage, so it doesn't feel crowded. They have a covered outdoor seating area as well. This was an experience that almost did not happen. When we entered the restaurant, the initial reaction is "this place is a dive." In truth, the restaurant if small and nondescript. You would never know it was a Mexican restaurant. It is not very attractive or inviting. The kid started crying that "this is not a good restaurant" (part of which was her being hungry and grumpy). We persevered and it turned out to be a great experience. There is an abbreviated menu on the wall but to get the full menu, which is quite extensive, you need to use the QR code on the table. To start, you get complimentary chips and salsa, and the salsa is excellent. Obviously homemade and has a nice kick. Very flavorful. The menu has literally everything Mexican and then some, but we focused on the seafood. I had the shrimp cocktail which was large with maybe 10 good sized shrimp along the rim. The shrimp had not fishy taste or smell. The cocktail sauce was full of avocado, jalapeño, onions, and tomatoes. It was delicious. I also had a sopa with chicken and beans and the masa was lightly fried and not at all greasy. It was delicate and light, one of the best sopes I ever had. The wife had fajita Hawaiian shrimp which basically is shrimp fajita with pieces of pineapple added. She liked it a lot. The kid had the kid's taco and is often fussy about her taco, but she devoured her crunch taco--the crispy tortilla was homemade. I had a rocks margarita which was pretty average so after that I had a shot of Don Julio anejo and suddenly the world was a better place. Our server, who I assume was the owner, was helpful and pleasant. At the end of the day, we were happy that we did not walk out upon first impression. The food is fresh, homemade, and very flavorful. Baffled... I called ahead to reserve a booth and she said sure thing. We get there, every booth is full. No reserved space. Screaming kid (out of their control obviously but made it unpleasant atmosphere). The layout in there was so cramped. I used to live up here and was craving their burrito it was decent this time. Took her forever to take our order. Also, was just her taking orders but cmon then figure out staffing? I work in food service and this upset me. Not even the worst part. They have different sizes of their margaritas, I asked how many shots were in the large, she said 2 and 1 in the "chica". I wanted the large but in a smaller cup because I wanted the double shot but less sugar... She charged us 10 dollars for the "extra shot"?!?! It's 12.99 for the double shot drink my friend got. I wanted that in a smaller cup... and paid 20 DOLLARS!! Ridiculous. Like so extremely disappointed and won't be coming back until they get it together. So sad. read more

Worst Mexican food I have ever had. I got the trio enchiladas plate. The rice was cold and the red sauce tasted straight from a can. The other two sauces lacked any flavor. The chicken tasted boiled with just water. Bean dip we got was bland. I ate a bite of each item and that was it. My husband didn't like his food either . He said the shrimp tasted so fishy and super rubbery. The asada on his plate had zero seasoning and extremely chewy. This kids picked off their plates 2/4 kids complained about their food and said they did not like it. Our kids eat everything and the 8 and 9 year old complained. The menu it states kids get a free drink on Sundays and we were charged for both kids drinks. Service was ok. No offer of any resolution of the whole plates of food not ate we told the waitress we did not like it. Maybe it's the flavor of the restaurant never have we come across a Mexican restaurant we did not like. $112 wasted . We ordered door dash when we got back to the hotel. It seems that the days of inexpensive lunches are mostly done. This place is a zero-frills, zero-ambience (and zero-heat on a cold day!!!) hole-in-the-wall that serves excellent Mexican food. Three of us ordered the fish taco specials with two sides of guacamole and it came to $65 with tip. But you definitely get what you pay for. This is as good as any Mexican food any of us have had in the US - hearty and healthy with perfect tacos and killer sides. 4 stars is about right - docking 1 star for the afore-mentioned gripes seems fair, but I'd return in a heartbeat. read more

Amazing food and customer service! Small hole in the wall type place but they have indoor and covered patio seating with about 8 tables. The asada is the best asada I've had in washington state the last 3 years I've lived here! I came here on a business trip and will be back on vacation to bring my family here for legit authentic Mexican food. Their table salsa is good but not spicy , wish they had a spicier option but their taco sauce is tasty and spicy. Their corn tortillas are homemade and thicker than your typical tortilla but so delicious! I'm from socal and this is as close as it gets to true LA tacos. Went back today for lunch before we head back out of town and got the quesabirria beef tacos and they had good flavor but the tortillas were soggy on the bottom and they didn't put much cheese in them but the birria was flavorful. Their queso dip is out of this world, homemade and full of pepper jack cheese. After hiking in the Chuckanuts nearby, we headed to Bellingham for a bite to eat. Since it was also Cinco de Mayo, we went in search of Mexican food and came across Tadeo's! The food was great! The only downside was that, we sat outside since we had two pups, but because their tables outside are not fenced, no alcohol is allowed. So now celebration margs for us that Saturday. What stands out to me about Tadeo's is that the service is superb. For my birthday I showed up with about 12 people and they moved tables around just to accommodate my party. The place is not huge, so 12 people was huge for it, but they made it work and also had fun with it. The huge margaritas are awesome and really fun to share. All of the food is amazing. Best Mexican place in town, really delicious and great service. The carnitas is easily the best meat on the menu - crispy on the outside and perfectly seasoned. Ask for extra salsa - they've got green and red bottles sitting back there that you want and need. Perfect date night, get there and get satisfied (if you know what I mean). I have been to this restaurant a couple times and haven't been totally wowed. It was simply ok. But as they advertise on their own sign, they have the "best"" tamales in Bellingham. So I took a half dozen home with me. I was excited, I haven't had good tamales in several years. This morning I bit into a bite of tamale and was greeted with a nice chicken bone. I used to live right down the street from this place and went all the time. For some reason I moved away and have not been back in years. I just moved down the street again and decided to give it a try again. I always struggle with deciding what to get at mexican food restaurants. I always want 1 of everything. I decided on a lunch combo with a chicken tostada and a cheese enchilada. The only thing on this plate that I have zero complaints about is the beans. I usually don't even get beans! The rice was ok. I poured the salsa in them to give them more flavor. I should have eaten the tostada first. It got soggy super quick. Im not sure there is a way to fix that. I am sure it is like that everywhere. The shredded chicken wasn't bad there was just entirely too much on that little tortilla. Now the cheese enchilada. The cheese in the center was not melted. It was like a soft block of cheese with a warm tortilla around it. Ugh. I was so disappointed. I love a super gooey enchilada. I also ordered their fried jalapenos and they were very flavorful. They were HUGE so I only ate one and took the rest to go. I also had just a regular house margarita. It wasn't bad. I don't know if it was anything to shout from the rooftops, but it was enjoyable on a sunny afternoon. The service was really great. The server was attentive and very kind. So, I like Mexican food. And I like burritos. And Tadeo's is best for no-fills burritos (if you want frills, go to Casa Que Pasa). There's not much you can do to screw up a burrito (or maybe I'm wrong), but you also don't come here to order enchiladas or anything else. It would be like ordering chicken at the steak house. The burrito I had was perfectly fine. Nothing special, nothing bad. The meat was pretty juicy and there is basically an unlimited supply of chips and...wait for it...SALSA from the salsa bar. They have tamales and horchata (and beer) too, but I wouldn't venture too far from the comforts of a burrito. I might be a creature of habit, but if it ain't broke.... Is it the best place in town? I've come through here a couple times now - on the way to BC and on the way back from Mt Baker. Both times, the service has been friendly, chips and salsa are delicious (you have to be careful not to fill up on them and ruin your appetite) and food comes out pretty fast and fresh. The photos are a little deceiving because the portions look small, but they are actually huge - the plates are serving platter sized! Not knowing this, I ordered three tacos and an enchilada because I was so hungry after a hike, and within 1.5 tacos, I was more than full. I kept eating though as the seasoning on the meat was so good! Would definitely stop here again and bonus: they are one of the few places open pretty late at night too, though their listed hours may be a little different than what is on yelp. read more

To start this off let me explain why my opinion should matter even remotely. I have worked at Doc's Marina Grill, Alchemy, and several other 5-Star restaurants in Port Townsend. I started as a mere a dishwasher and worked my way up to being a cook. I know good food. Not all food is heavily seasoned or extremely expensive to make. Often times, the ingredients themselves are just well prepared and delicious. They can MAKE OR BREAK the meal. Tonight, I bought Tadeo's Macho Burrito. The burrito was soggy and mushy from the amount of oil on/it it. For something called a "Macho" burrito, I was extremely underwhelmed by how small it was. I don't need a Casa Que Pasa burrito, but this was sad. Truly disappointing for a burrito called a "Macho" burrito. It was so BLAND! Absolutely NO seasoning, sauce, care put into it. I don't care if someone says there is sauce or seasoning on their food, if I taste/feel nothing but the copious amount of oil on the food, I will not be happy. Period. The tortilla was just like soaking wet paper, just falling apart. It was like someone stuffed an oiled up sponge down my throat. It was gross. I don't know what other word to use. I've mentioned the portion but one KEY thing to add is that I couldn't help but notice something... The burrito that was listed with 10+ ingredients was 75%+ Green Peppers (The most bitter of bell peppers) and Onions. These are some of the cheapest vegetables/ingredients on this Earth. Battling for that position would be potatoes and white rice. I understand portioning, I used to portion ingredients and food. That's one hell of a profit margin they are going for though, filling it mostly with disgusting cheap ingredients. To list 10+ ingredients and have me taste 0 is not good. I only remember now, their website said this burrito had chicken too on it. I hardly tasted but felt the Carne Asada, but COMPLETELY forgot there was even chicken on it. I COULD NOT TASTE OR SEE ANY. It was gross enough, it upset my stomach. My body has never consumed that much oil at once, not even at McDonald's. I ate half the burrito and had to throw away the other half. I don't expect a refund or sympathy, I chose to eat here, but I have learned from that mistake, my friends. I WANT to love the food I pay for. You can go read my opinion on Casa Que Pasa and Busara Thai. I have a euphoric rush of chemicals rush to my brain when I eat GOOD food. It is an incredible feeling. To love the food I am eating. This wasn't it though. Some of my best friends have been latino gentlemen with AMAZING culinary skills. They have made me EXQUISITE and authentic Carne, Tacos, Taquitos, Burritos, Meat, Etc. Mouthwatering, spicy yet flavorful. TRULY STUNNING. This wasn't even remotely humanly close to that. Even in a cocina de la casa and with very few ingredients, they knew how to cook up amazing authentic food for me. I consider finding Ambrosial food to be a blessing. It leaves an unforgettable memory imprinted in my brain. To summarize, do not eat here. My standards are not that high. I don't need amazing Michelin-Star food. I just need something that I love and can feel the love being put into the making of my food. This was the most disgusting Mexican food/In General food I have EVER had the misfortune of placing upon my experienced pallet. It didn't even have to be 100% authentic. It didn't need to be HEART-STOPPINGLY incredible. The amount of oil in this burrito and the lack of any flavor/seasoning may just cause my heart to stop tonight in my sleep at 23. If you have tastebuds, do not eat here. Save yourself some money and some BAD heartburn/nausea. I've said all I can at this point. Thanks. read more
