I tried the sweet potato zang zang special bubble tea. I thought it was really good. You have to mix the paste smeared on the outside of the cup into the milk but once it was mixed in, it was a nice flavour and not too sweet. The pearls were chewy and cooked well. There are lots of drinks on the menu and most of them can be made with non-dairy milk and with the sweetness and ice levels adjusted. I had no choice but to visit them during BU move-in weekend which was the only weekend I was in Vestal and it was, as I expected, very busy. I don't usually like to order online but I did this time to save some time and that was definitely a smart move because the line was very long. I was frustrated though because I saw what I was pretty sure was my drink get prepared and set on the counter and then sit there for like 5 minutes because there was no one attending to the online order drinks. When someone made a drink for a customer that had ordered in person they would hand that drink to the customer and then immediately run back to making the next order so I couldn't ask anyone because they were always busy. I mean, it's fair that they were working hard to keep up with orders but I just wanted someone to take 5 seconds to hand me my drink. read more

I came here and ordered mango black tea with boba (which was good) and spicy miso ramen with tofu, which might qualify as a violation of international humanitarian law. The broth was amazingly flavorless, the noodles came as a tiny little plop of a serving size, the texture of the tofu can best be described as "couch cushion", and the spice wasn't spicy. Would come again for tea; wouldn't risk paying for the food. The Taichi location I frequented down in Maryland was infinitely better before it closed, much to my chagrin. RIP. read more

I was picking up an order for a food delivery app (yeah, I moonlight delivering for a few extra bucks). I'm waiting for my order, and before I get it, this one employee approached me, and in a very hostile tone goes "excuse me, but, what the hell is up your shirt? Why are you wearing that?" I think I should tell you I was wearing a shirt with the Israeli flag. I'm part Jewish, and I support the only Jewish state, especially after the ongoing atrocities being committed against them. I told the employee this. He/she/whatever (this worker was wearing a bunch of trans related buttons and it was kinda hard to tell what it was trying to pass itself as) goes "you disgust me! I can't believe you'd be so pro genocide." Had measured expectations after reading some of the reviews here, but exceeded all of those expectations. Great environment, clean, welcoming. Ordered on the touchpad which was simple. Expected a long wait so started playing games with the kids, but the food was ready within a few minutes. Wife and I ordered poke bowls (spicy tuna), a taichi bubble tea, and shoyu ramen for the kids. The food was great (we were in Japan just last month), poke was fresh, spicy mayo and Thai chili sauce was tasty. The fried onions provided a great crunch and flavor. The ramen broth was tasty (pork belly was a little tougher than preferred). I'm a bit of a bubble tea snob, but was very satisfied with the taichi flavored milk tea with boba. Where do I begin. I try to be fair about my reviews as a Yelp Elite member but this one is tough. As far as the bubble tea goes, it's generally pretty standard quality (or at least, comparable for the area). The Zang Zang drinks look really fancy, but I will note that the puree/paste they put on the side of the cup isn't mixed into the milk in the cup at all (or at least, not enough that I could taste it). The Taro Zang Zang paste tasted amazing, I just had to really mix it into the milk, otherwise it just tasted like I was drinking straight soy milk. Other bubble teas just taste kind of standard, perhaps a bit too sweet. I'd say this place is fine for bubble tea/drinks. But you do have to wait 20-40 minutes in line. That alone makes the trip not really worth it, IMO, unless you order for pickup. Places like K&K down the road are lightning-fast in comparison. The ramen, however, is a disaster. First of all, the only broth option they have that isn't pork-based is a vegetarian tomato broth. Tomato?! I've been to top ramen places in big cities all over the country and not once has a vegetarian/vegan option ever been tomato broth. Tomato has an umami flavor to it, but it's just not a good flavor for ramen. Vegetarian ramen broths are usually seaweed-based or something. Never tomato. First red flag. Most places at least have a chicken broth option. Obviously, this is not a ramen place. But it's not even an "ok" ramen place. Now let's talk about how it actually tasted. Well, not great. The broth was edible, I guess. Really just tasted like canola oil and watered down tomato paste. And it included fresh cherry tomatos which, again... a very weird thing to see in a ramen dish. Not a good flavor/texture. It also included an egg marinated in soy sauce. Eggs are usually unmarinated in ramen, and this one did not mesh right with the tomato flavor, either. I got it with shrimp and tofu. The shrimp was alright. But the tofu... is it even tofu?! I've had unseasoned tofu before (eh), but this was something completely else. It tasted like I was eating a damp sponge. I'm not even exaggerating. What is this Wish tofu they're buying? Perhaps it's freeze-dried cubes they drop in the broth? Either way, it's absolutely awful. That alone killed my appetite. I'm usually not one to waste food; I'll generally finish something even if it's not that great. But this was just plain disgusting. Had no appetite the rest of the night. Do NOT get the tofu. I'm warning you. Seriously. Their sushi burritos are... ok. Nothing special, not very flavorful. But definitely a better option than the tomato ramen. I can't judge the other ramen flavors because they're not halal, but based on that experience I don't have high hopes for the others. I'll also note that the prices are pretty outrageous, even for vegetarian options. Honestly, the only instance I'd ever see myself coming here again is for a pickup order of bubble tea... maybe. But it's honestly not worth it. It takes 20-40 minutes in line plus another 20 minutes for food that is ok to awful. Two of us together paid over $40 for average bubble tea and straight-up disgusting food. Not recommended. read more

If I never experienced the Taichi location in Buffalo, I would've given a 4 star review. However, knowing how the Tonawanda location is, I had to bring this down to 3 stars. I've included a pic for comparison between the two locations. The Buffalo pic didn't have requests for extra portions, but the Vestal pic did. Service: It was quite slow despite the number of staff seen in the front and back. I waited about 20 minutes for both my poke and drink. There were people who ordered after me who got their food and drink before me which was a little confusing, but fine. When I filled the form for the poke, I asked for extra seaweed salad and extra avocado, but it doesn't look like I received extra unless 3 slices of avocado and seaweed salad I received is regular+more (shown in pic). I asked for cucumbers and received 2.5 slices of cucumbers (one was extremely thin and half. I personally don't like the tamago (egg) because from past experiences, it's a bit cold and watery on the inside, but I received it in my poke. So overall, service wasn't extremely satisfactory. Interior: Cute! Not much to say. It's clean and there are a lot of seats. Food: It's ok. Compared to the Buffalo location, not great. Presentation wasn't great which surprised me since I've been going to the Buffalo location since they opened there and presentation has always been done well. The portions are mediocre at best for the price you're paying in Vestal. Many pieces of salmon I ate had bones in them and they were pretty big. For me, the taste is just ok. Nothing crazy. Drinks: I ordered a Jasmine Milk Tea with Tapioca, my usual order. Maybe the day I went, the tapioca wasn't well made, but in my drink, tapioca wasn't sweet at all. Most of it was clumped together as well. This location needs to add syrup like bubble tea shops do, to the tapioca to keep them separated. The milk tea itself was ok, a bit watered down. I wasn't extremely satisfied with the service, food or drink, but the interior design is nice. Overall, it's pretty average, hence, 3 stars. read more

I was excited to check this place out, since I was craving poke when I saw it... Just know that if you order the poke bowl with spicy tuna at least, the poke seems mashed -- instead of having little cubes of tuna where you can really see the fish meat. Not really my thing. Also the portion of spicy tuna seemed small -- and they said they gave me a little extra because they were out of brown rice and could only give me white. The small portion of mashedpoke actually worked out for me, but if the poke had my beloved cubes, I would have been sad. It tasted ok though and the spicy mayo dressing was nice, The staff were nice too. Oh, their poke bowl greens options included spinach, lettuce, kale, and red cabbage i think. I'm officially hooked on this place. You get the same great tasting food and drinks each and every time. The staff doesn't smile a lot but they deliver a delicious product. I stick with the sushi burrito and a large bubble tea and leave with a smile on my face every time. As for price - I took my daughters there the other day and we all ate our fill for $50. It's a pretty big place and there are times when it's pretty packed. Because they make your food fresh, it may take a little while, but it's well worth it. read more

We asked for light on the tapioca pearls.The cost was $17.37 and both tasted sweet and good. There are artificial plants everywhere, wood tables, and clean environment, nice. We looked for some plate we could snack and share but found none. You order at a cafeteria style line, get a number, and wait for them to call your number. They can improve by having more whole milk options and some plates to share. The first few times we went the bubble tea was decent. Their menu is extensive for sure. I ate there for the first time and I was not impressed. Firstly the food takes an excessive amount of time to come out and it wasn't even that busy. I also got all vegetarian food and the tofu was cold so not sure what took so long. The soup wasn't very hot either. Hot broth is a must! Second it was INSANELY expensive. Two bubble teas and two soups... $50. I just about keeled over when I saw the total. Thirdly my bubble tea at my last visit was not made right and didn't taste like it normally does which is disappointing when you're craving a good boba. I am from Buffalo where there is another Tai Chi and they are amazing so maybe I have higher standards but for the vestal one, they add very little cream cheese to the sushi burritos, even if you ask for extra, they only use a little to help seal the burrito, it's so sad Also their sauce containers are so tiny. HOWEVER, today (sunday april 30, at around 7 pm) a lady was working the bowl station and was so rude and skimpy on everything. My protein was salmon and she gave me maybe like four cubes? she was literally pinching and dropping the smallest amounts of my toppings. I ordered pickled radish to which she literally gave me one slice but when i approached the lady who was handing out the order to see if it was possible for me to please get some more she said sure and in that sauce cup was double the amount that was in my bowl. If it wasn't as good looking of a place i'd rate it lower. Let's start from the beginning. The long lines and wait times do not make it a very appealing restaurant for getting a quick meal, which most of the menu consists of. If you're lookinf to get just bubble tea you're gonna be waiting long anyway. This is actually my second time here because the line was taking too long the first time. This time around we spent 20 minutes in line and then 25 minutes waiting for the food. We ordered bubble teas which were great but a little on the sweet side. For food we got Ramen and a sushi burrito. The ramen choices are poor, if i could rate the ramen alone it would be 1/5 stars. There are no non-pork ramen broth options, you cannot pick the noodles either. Theres no chicken option and the beef costs a whopping $3 extra. The ramen itself came out 2/5 taste wise, edible but not entirely enjoyable. The sushi burrito kinda was flavourless. Nothing stood out and the extra stretchy seaweed wrap made it too chewy to get a good bite. The staff is amazing, friendly and informative. But undortunately this does not make up for the poor experience. I can see students putting up with this but i'm not coming back here. I noticed this place open recently so I decided to give it a try. The taro bubble tea was okay. I felt like i tasted more "milk" than taro flavor. I ordered Ramen with shrimp and it took almost 20 mins to get my order. The noddles came out luke warm and after 5 mins it was completely cold. We ordered the spicy tonkatsu and spicy miso ramen, an ocean lover sushi burrito and fruit tea. Both spicy ramens packed the right amount of heat. The portions were just right for an individual serving. The sushi burrito was so good! It was packed with ingredients and flavorful sauces. I don't know where to start. Worst experience ever. First off I don't look Chinese but I learned it in college and all I could hear was the employees trash talking about how customers looked and one employee even made fun of a customer for smelling like weed. Despite this happening in front of me I still decided to order my food. I ordered a taro milk tea with tapioca balls and it made me sick to my stomach to the point that my girlfriend pointed out that I looked pale. We also ordered the tankutso noodle bowl which was bland and greasy and luke warm. My girlfriend ordered the poke bowl which you can pick unlimited toppings but the person making it was so stingy and skimpy on the portions even after my girlfriend asked for more all I could hear was bickering in Chinese. I think it was the owner of the store and she was super rude to us. It doesn't stop there. I felt so sick that I ended up going to the emergency room and had an x-ray done and shockingly found tapioca balls stuck in my intestines that clogged me up and now I'm looking to either get my stomach pumped. I don't know what they put in their drinks but whatever it is shouldn't be consumed by any person what so ever. read more
