This place is absolutely amazing, from their mouthwatering food to their outstanding customer service. I've been a loyal customer for years, and every time, they manage to impress me. I also want to add that I have worked in multiple towns from Mastic to Syosset, I'm originally from queens and I still prefer them over any other place!!!! Their sesame chicken is my ultimate favorite--perfectly crispy, sweet, and savory--but honestly, everything on the menu is incredible. And don't even get me started on their egg rolls! They're so addictive, I don't even need sauce. The crispiness is out of this world--just one bite, and you'll see what I mean! The people at Tai Yu are some of the kindest, sweetest people you'll ever meet. Their customer service is unmatched, and they always make you feel like family. We tried literally all the we Chinese takeout in Shirley/Mastic area...All sub par! And not worthy of another try. Found this venue on Yelp and gave them a shot Def a good choice! Got appys; boneless ribs in hot garlic sauce 8/10. Wonton soup unremarkable 5/10. Hot& Sour soup ok 7/10. Roast pork lo mein pretty tasty not real Cantonese flavor 8/10. We tried this place to try something new. Everything we ordered was off. The generals chicken was bland with no spice. It kind of tastes like hard boiled eggs, the rice wasn't really seasoned, the sweet and sour chicken tasted old and dried out; the boneless ribs greasy and dried if you could picture that and the wonton soup was cloudy. Pretty much just threw it in the trash. The dining/ waiting room was extremely cold which could be why it was dead. I had high hopes reading some of the last reviews; now I'm just trying to figure out how to get paid to do these fake reviews. Save your money. read more

The night before Super Bowl is a family tradition. It's always Chinese food and hanging out with my brothers. We decided a new spot would be best (Well I did because I wanted to Yelp) so we went to "Tai Yu Chinese Restaurant." It wasn't much of a restaurant however. Parking is a breeze because it's in a shopping center. Once I found a spot we headed in. A quick look around I noticed the place was messy, very messy. A lot of stuff on the ground. The place is small and only offers three tables for seating. Next I noticed it was cold inside, extremely cold. The plan was to eat there but it was colder in the restaurant then it was outside (23 degrees outside). We decided against it and wanted to go to my place. The woman behind the counter was amazing and nice. There was a huge crowd and they were ordering away. This place is good with the neighborhood because customers knew the staff by name. Some people came in for the usual. Once our food was ready it was a 7 minute ride home. I was impressed with the crab ragoon's, but the sauce it came with was watered down, extremely watered down. Last was my chicken. That also was delicious, but the sesame sauces was also watered down, extremely watered down. The food you get for the price was worth it. I would go back. My family & i ordered takeout, there was meat in my son's vegetable spring rolls & that's not included in the menu. He's been vegan for about 6 years & this is the only time he's came across something like this. My husband found a piece of hair in his rice, we all lost our appetites after coming across that. Criticism, whether "good" or "bad" per se, is heeded; and I would have to say quite immediately. The customer service improved - seemingly over night. The gentleman who took my order honored their stated/established promotional offers, notified me of the accepted method of payments (Visa, in particular [as opposed to American Express]), etc. He even went as far as to inform me if they had Pepsi or Coke-based soda products without qualm when honoring the free two-liter soda with a order total exceeding $33 (I believe). This is usually my go to place here in Mastic. Boy, was I disappointed tonight. I placed a fairly large order 45 minutes to closing and the food was horrible! I order spare ribs, which were deep fried, not roasted. The four combination platters I selected were full of non flavorful rice, very little meats and vegetables. I won't even go into the appetizers...... HORRIBLE! Seems like everything was rushed and it showed. One word of advice, if your going to take a large order close to closing, please make sure it's cooked as if it was ordered during rush hour. Highly disappointed! So this local Mastic Beach area Chinese take-out place does not rank highly on my list of good places to get food. The menu selections here mirror any other local Chinese take-out. So nothing gained nothing lost in that regard. However, the quality of their preparations leaves a lot to be desired. Staple items for me are things like Sesame Chicken, General Tso's Chicken, and Orange Chicken. Most places you go these 3 items have very distinct flavors, but from Tai Yu they all seem to taste very similar. And by very similar I mean they all taste like a variation on Sweet and Sour sauce, another staple item, and one I'm not that fond of. Not only does everything taste like a variation of Sweet and Sour sauce, it isn't even a very good Sweet and Sour sauce. My best guess is they use Sweet and Sour sauce as a base master sauce and modify it for the various dishes I mentioned. Well that does not equate to a good food experience in my opinion. Also going against this take-out joint is their service, or lack there of. The people who work here are your typical Chinese food proprietors in that they don't speak a lot of English. Not only do they not speak much English, but they have no personality. It feels like all they are trying to do is rush you in and rush you out as quickly as possible. So there is nothing in regards to service worth writing home about. My only reason for a 2-star rating is simple... I didn't get sick from their food, and other Chinese take-out places have gotten me sick, so that would be my baseline for a 1-star rating. This beats that, but only slightly. Visit at your own risk. Went here a few times. Good food with large portions The food is always ready when I arrive at the restaurant. There are a few tables to sit and eat. I perfer to take it home. The staff is always polite and have not made an error on the orders. Call ahead and it will be ready at the time they tell you. The cost is about the same as most Chinese restaurants in the area. They should place more tables in the restaurant and clean it up allittle more people would sit and eat at the restaurant. Plenty of parking. read more

We've been getting food from here for years, food is always good. We really like the shrimp dishes- shrimp with lobster sauce and the Butterfly shrimp is great. Also love the egg rolls, tasty and greasy- can't get enough. The ribs on the bone taste great but sometimes have more bone than meat so that's why only four stars. My room mate orders from here all the time and the delivery guy gets mad if he is standing outside waiting for him to come down to bring him the money. He starts ringing the doorbell a MILLION times and pounding on the our glass door. I always offer for him to come inside but i don't think they understand english or hand gestures. After sampling every Chinese place in Mastic Shirley there is no better place than Tai Yu! Everything we've had has been spectacular. The pork in garlic sauce is to die for! And the price for our family of four was $5-$7 less than the typical price we were paying at the other places. read more

First time to this restaurant since I'm trying to try new places as I'm a new resident to the area. I used the Yelp app to find it and as I pulled up to grab a menu I was certainly feeling unenthusiastic about ordering due to overall appearance of the exterior but I let it go. I walked in to find that same feeling as I entered through the front door. I find myself measuring the quality of Chinese food through standard operation of getting what I get at every place to start, then if I'm satisfied with that meal I will continue to go there and try other dishes. I got the usual, pan fried pork dumplings and beef lo mein. But as I'm scanning the menu I notice an item never seen on a typical Chinese joint's listings...a pizza role. My mind was too fixated on what they would use as sauce to look at anything but that on the menu so I pull the trigger and order it. I get home with my meal and start with what I believe to be the tastiest of all Chinese food appetizers, the dumplings. As you'd expect, pan fried on one side and soft on the other. One bite and the grease oozes out of it in all of its Chinese glory. Success. Next was the item I was most excited for, the pizza roll. As with most Chinese food, presentation is not important. It's simply and egg roll with pizza fillings. Two bites down and it's gone and I'm left wishing I ordered two. Now to the LI mein. As I opened the container I noted how bland it looked and as I taste it I think about how dead on I was with the description. It really was bland, bland tasting, looking, it just didn't taste as good as I'd hoped. I'm going to brave it on this one and go back for another dish in the coming week. I left it at 3 stars for appearance of the restaurant but I must comment on the customer service given to me inside.
