Wonderful experience having my wedding dress tailored here! My experience consisted of 2 appointments- 1 initial fitting (deposit) and the 2nd to confirm everything looks ok (other portion of cost). Exceeded my expectations- I did a scarf, under bustle and a little take in the waist. To steam your dress is $50. A little on the pricier side for me, however, quick and careful so worth every penny! They even took a video of how to clip the under bustle for my bridesmaids- so thoughtful! Appreciate the ladies at Sylvia!

My daughter picked a beautiful dress and your shop helped to make it perfect. Thank you so much.

The reason I'm giving Sylvia's tailor shop 2/5 stars is because of a very unfortunate mistake that was made that caused a lot of stress and upset during the week of my wedding. I relocated to IL this past summer so I did my due diligence in finding this shop. I called around to different bridal boutiques that carried my designer's gowns and asked who they recommended- and they said Sylvia's. I didn't want to take any chances on my wedding gown's alterations, so I decided driving 45 minutes each way would be worth it to go to this shop. I went to Sylvia's to get my Martina Liana ballgown (style 1413) altered. I went in 4 times in 3 months. The team was very nice, professional and prompt with every appointment. They really took their time and answered any questions that I had, which I appreciate. When I went to pick up my gown 1 week before my wedding, something felt off. I am 5'3" and my gown was made for someone at 5'7", so I needed quite a bit hemmed off the bottom. When I tried on my gown, it felt unfinished/too light and like something was missing and like something was chopped off, but I couldn't put my finger on it. The owner assured me nothing was cut off and everything was okay. I went home to try it on and boom.. I could tell right away that the majority of my gorgeous floral applique's were cut right off. I lost sleep over this. I called the shop and they told me my applique's should be in the garment bag- they were not. The rest of my fabric was there, but my stunning floral appliques were nowhere to be found. I drove over to the shop, in tears, 5 days before my wedding and the owner told me that they lost my fabric and that they could put different appliques on. I said, absolutely not. I was so, so sad. I paid $4,000 for this gown and my fabric was taken. I told them I want MY appliques on MY gown and that they needed to find it. After digging in the scrap bins for about an hour (which had TONS of white, floral appliques by the way), they finally found mine. I would like to mention that during this time, the associate told me that I shouldn't be so emotional because she is from the Ukraine and has seen wars. While I empathize with her, I found this really disrespectful. I paid almost $1000 for my alterations and that is like comparing apples to oranges and making me feel bad for being upset that my WEDDING gown was botched. Other than that, she was kind but I really didn't appreciate that comment at all, nor did I find it professional. It turned out that a new seamstress was fixing my gown and made this mistake. I understand these things happen, but I think that the owner/team needs to quality check their work and/or make sure that these newer seamstresses know the proper way to alter gowns like this. I will give the team credit for fixing my gown in two days. The other alterations that were made around the waist were perfect, and the hemming was flawless after it was fixed. You could not tell that anything was wrong with my gown. They also wrote me a note and gave me $50 cash... to be honest, I would have expected a free cleaning & preservation, given that I paid almost $1000 for my alterations but I did appreciate the note and some cash. I'm not leaving this review to trash talk this shop, but I believe that other brides need to know about my experience so that they can make their own decisions and make sure that this does not happen to them, especially on their wedding week. I've attached photos where you can see the unfinished bottom, what the appliques should have looked like, and the fixed gown.

I had my wedding dress show up multiple sizes too small and this shop managed to get it altered to fit me perfectly in a crunched amount of time. I got so many compliments and they made it so my day went the way it was supposed to without another stress over fit!

Some people may have been lucky and had good experiences here, but I did not, beware: if Enoch makes a mistake, his stance is that the customer is always wrong. I brought in expensive technical motorcycle gear with explicit, printed instructions and reference photos, that we went over together. He completely ignored them and our discussion. He first sewed patches on the wrong pant leg, and secondly sewed straight through my jacket's internal mesh, permanently sealing the main interior pocket shut and ruining its functionality. When I reached out in good faith to resolve the damaged gear, he refused to stand by his work. Instead, he falsely claimed I knew the patches would be on the wrong leg and the pocket would be sewn shut. Enoch then told me to stop messaging him as "I'm just looking for conflict?!?" He then ignored my final offer to let him fix it. This was not cheap and I paid up front, I didn't negotiate the price, as I was expecting the price to match the quality. This was unacceptable tailoring, even the stitching was a hack job. Based on these reasons and the atrocious customer service I decided to reach out to credit card company and open a dispute, which I've never done before. Do not trust this shop with tailoring your garments. If they ruin it, you will first be insulted and then on your own to find someone to fix Enoch's tailoring malpractice.

I came to the shop on 3 different occasions to handle all alterations, bustle, and final pick up. They accept multiple forms of payment and only service one bride at a time for an intimate experience. Their alterations services came at a premium but their craftsmanship, hospitality, and final steaming services were unmatched. My dress fit me exactly how I had hoped for. The length was perfect, I felt very secure and covered, and my waist was well defined. Aynur was great about thoroughly explaining the three recommended bustle types she recommended. I chose the Bubble Bustle which meant my train was tied up under the dress. She thoroughly explained that my train would attract dirt lines but I loved the way it looked throughout the night! I would definitely recommend Aynur to anyone needing special occasion alterations near Arlington Heights!

You could not even tell the items were repaired - they looked brand new! More recently, Matt needed a suit adjusted - the suit jacket was tight in the shoulder area and across the back so he asked for it to be let out. To our surprise, Adelina shared and demonstrated that the shoulders hung too low and the suit jacked actually needed to be taken in to correct the problem. We were both skeptical because taking in the suit to make it feel looser seemed counter-intuitive to us. Sure enough, upon our return the suit jacket fit perfectly and was very comfortable-the desired goal was met! She knew exactly what needed to be done! She also took in the sleeves on the jacket, raised the jacket hem and took in the pant legs - all of which gave him a much improved fit and look - he's a GQ kind of man now! My nephew who is on the quiet side even expressed how talented and impressed he was with her expertise, knowledge and craftsmanship! She is passionate about her work and it shows! I highly recommend Adelina for all your tailoring needs! Char C. PS. My nephew lives in St. Louis and she accommodated us by opening her shop for us over the Christmas holiday and then opening her shop early one Saturday for the final fitting! She goes above and beyond to meet her clients needs!

DO NOT COME HERE IF YOU JUST WANT AN ALTERATION!…read more As soon as I tried on my prom dress, she instantly went ahead and mentioned a few changes that could be made to my dress. Although I only wanted the bottom of my dress to be altered, I still agreed with the changes that could be made to the dress. However I did not agree after when she mentioned the total would be $500 dollars. I had to tell her no on the other changes since I only wanted the bottom to be fixed. She had no problem getting rid of the pins and to only focus on the bottom. But then that's when the service shifted. A few weeks later, I came back to pick up my prom dress and I tried it on. As soon as I put the dress on, she immediately said "I told you" as she points to the top of my dress, suggesting that it should be fixed from the top. I felt completely comfortable with my dress, but as she was making those kinds of comments, it felt like she wanted me to hate my dress. I still said no to the adjustments even though she kept wanting to convince me to. She charged me 130 in the beginning but ended up charging 150 on small changes WHEN I DIDNT ASK FOR IT.

I do think she is a skilled tailor but simply does not have the time, energy, or attentiveness to brides for something as special as their wedding wear. I cannot in good faith recommend her to other brides for wedding alterations but think she is better off working in garments that are lower stakes. My biggest complaints are: - She gives you attitude if you push back or have feedback on work she's already done. She is very unwilling to course correct or adjust. - Is not the most respectful of your time. During my bridal appointment, she would allow multiple clients to come in and out during it and other customers would also offer commentary on my dress which I found extremely inappropriate. - Often had to be reminded to do a complete job. Some times the dress wasn't ready or hemmed yet and still had pins which resulted in at least 2 more appointments than necessary. - Lacking attention to detail. I had to clean up a lot of loose ends, fraying, threads, trim excess fabric, remove pencil marks when my final dress was done. I expected better for the price point I paid. - Finally and most egregiously, I asked Nina to sew on appliqué fabric I provided to my veil, both which were custom. She initially sewed the appliqués to the wrong side and said she would correct it by removing and resewing. When I received the final veil, it was beautiful but I noticed that rather than correcting her mistakes, Nina cut the entire veil from the hair comb and resewed it on. I found this to be extremely dishonest and upsetting. She also cut up the fabric I provided and butchered a lot of beautiful details I was hoping to preserve. I found it incredibly misleading of Nina to cut corners and literally cut a perfectly created custom veil rather than owning up and taking the time to correct her mistakes. My dress ended up being fine and wearable ultimately, but it would've been more worth it for me to pay a bit more to have a better experience overall. I do not recommend this business for other brides specifically.
