Well I hear about the boardwalk in Cypress had to come and check out the place. This place happen to be at the boardwalk and my girl was craving for sushi, The place is beautifully located by the lake. The outdoor setting was awesome, when the weather gets cooler would be really cool place to sit and enjoy the mood. OK on to the food, the bento box was generously portion. The seaweed salad was on point. Note you can't really screw that up. The tempura is your typical Americanized none Japanese style. The stir fry vegetables was very salty. And the steak was cut really large chucks and very hard to eat just fork or chop sticks. I had to use caveman style (my hand) to eat the meat. The service was on point by the way, our waitress is really awesome and great smiles. Coming from Mr.Picky that was something. I wen my there just once and I would definitely go there again. I will recommend this place to everyone because it was really really good Food: the food is amazing, everything is fresh and tasty. I definitely recommend the fried mushrooms. I ordered sushi which were as good as expected. Service: for some reason the service wasn't as good as I expected. I would understand that if it was busy, but the service was so dry with us and barely check on us. We also get our food pretty quickly, after 15-20 mins of calling in. Deducting a star because the chicken fried rice isn't always good. Looking at the food and quality, I would say the food of the hibachi grill was worth the price. However, it was preceded with a near hour and a half wait for the grilling to begin and truly mediocre service. Being visibly understaffed and overbooked, it would have been completely understandable for the host at the front to refrain from seating us and telling us that there's a wait for a table. I would have at least been waiting by choice. Our orders were taken at the beginning by a waitress that was visibly rushing around and then began the wait. What was surely the cherry on top was seeing the party across from us who was sat after us receive their hibachi meals well before us while we sat, waited, and watched them. I want to start off by saying I was extremely excited to try Taisho for the hibachi for my birthday dinner. So this review is solely based on hibachi! My husband and I arrived a little after 5PM on Saturday and the place was pretty empty so we were seated immediately. We were the first ones at the hibachi table though so we had to wait for other quests to arrive. Shortly after we arrived a server came over and took our order (off to a good start I am thinking). Luckily the table filled up pretty quickly so we didn't have to wait too long. Once the hibachi chef came to the table to start cooking is really where things took a turn for me. He RUSHED through cooking our meals so quickly that it was faster than if I sat at a table and waited for my food. He had no personality and didn't even put on a show. (side note: people come for the show...not to watch someone be boring and cook a meal in front of you). The meat was served raw (chicken and steak) so he didn't even take the time to cook the food correctly. I ordered the hibachi chicken and my husband ordered the steak. He ordered his steak medium rare, but he served it rare and some pieces hadn't even been seared so it was served raw. My chicken had some pieces that were not fully cooked so I decided not to finish my meal. Steak and chicken were BLAND and boring. The yum yum sauce is by far the worst yum yum sauce I have ever had as well. Salty and runny! To end it all as soon as the hibachi chef left the table the server dropped off the check and I just felt really rushed. I was so upset at this point that I just paid and left. I never leave reviews because I can usually brush bad service off. However, the service at this place was beyond me tonight. We come in and noticed the long wait so we decided to head to the bar. We were greeted by a new employee named Suzanne which is bartending alone on her first night (Friday at that). She took our order and 30 minutes later I had to ask her to check on our sushi. 45 minutes passed & our Hibachi Chicken entree was still not out. She said the kitchen lost the ticket so we waited another 15 minutes. At this point I called over management which asked me to wait 5 extra minutes for my food. After an 1hr & 20 minutes our main entree still hadn't arrived and at this point I paid for what I consumed and notified the manager & she had completely forgot about my order again!! My husband felt sick from the beef sashimi (the beef sashimi is doused in some type of red pepper/spicy seasoning which is not stated on the menu), I told the waitress nicely and she just said "oh sorry"... My spicy tuna roll was just seasoned with a ton of red spice on top instead of being properly made with spicy mayo or some type of Sriracha. The baby changing station in the restroom is BEHIND THE BATHROOM DOOR... so you will be hit with the door if anyone walks in to use the restroom. Bad experience overall and won't be back. While the sushi here is no better or worse than other options in Cypress, you simply cannot beat the location! Being able to eat sushi while gazing at the lake, either on the patio or select spots inside the restaurant in the humid summer months, is priceless if ambiance is your thing. Minor quibbles. Wish they didn't dye their ginger and left it natural, as so many pro health sushi establishments have been doing for a while. And having guests at the sushi bar with their back to the lake was a bit of a floor plan miss. Our experience yesterday evening was extremely poor for the amount of money spent. They were severely under staffed last night and we couldn't find much staff for quite awhile when we got there and could tell few people were doing everything. They were working hard sure, but nothing was ever said of this once. No sorry for the wait, we are understaffed, etc. it was like it was just ignored and everyone in this restaurant I could see complaining at the tables. We waited I think 30 minutes for the simple alcohol drinks we ordered. I also went to the restroom while waiting and it was very gross and water was all over the floor under the men's urinals. What is worse is that on top of all that the food was also poor quality. We didn't get a salad (no table did) and that was never explained, the food wasn't seasoned well and everything was super bland, the rice had no veggies (rice and egg) and very unflavorful, we seemed to not get a good quantity of meat, it was not cooked the way we ordered, etc. After all food was cooked we also didn't have the dipping sauces that comes with hibachi and I had to ask and eventually someone came out and provided that to everyone, but by then we had eaten most of the food. I just left there feeling like what a giant waste of $420 for our table. It is inexcusable for the price to have so many aspects of the service/food to have gone so poorly. We have ordered delivery from Taisho a few times now, and have really been impressed thus far! My husband really likes the gyoza and the Philadelphia Roll, and we both are big fans of the Rose Yellowtail (even though every time we have gotten it the sauce spills out all over the bag). I also really like the yellowtail roll, which is very simple but is one of the freshest flavors I have tried from there. Went on a calm Tuesday night with the bf and had a great time! I don't normally review places but we both felt the experience warranted 5 stars. The service was great and very prompt. The cocktails were perfect (old fashioned and sake) and we were stuffed with appetizers before the hibachi even started. Prices are $15$ up but we walked away with 1-2 meals worth of leftovers.
