I've been to Shabuya (Milpitas) multiple times now. The food (great quality and comes out FAST) and servers are very good. My problem occurred today. There is a front of the house "manager". I don't know her name because unlike the servers, she doesn't wear a name tag. Perhaps that is on purpose...and should change. I will just say she's an older woman who wears glasses. When one of the children in our party went up to measure their height, it was clear that they were below the line. Nobody had an issue besides this "manager". She demanded that she double check, using a menu to carefully measure. If Shabuya needs to check height so badly, maybe we can go elsewhere. There are other places to eat. She is incredibly rude and said WE were the problem. Wow! Again, she wasn't wearing a name tag, so I cannot even name her. The server takes drink and broth orders and lets you know you've got 90 minutes to enjoy your meal. You can order two apps and six meats at a time, either through the tablet at the table or directly with your server. Choose your broth, and they'll bring it out and pour it into your pot. Veggies, noodles, and sauces are all self‑serve, and there's a huge selection. There's a sign about an upcharge for seafood, but we weren't charged. The gyozas were our favorite appetizer, and the spicy chicken was solid too. The only downside was the cleanup process. The staff clearing tables were slamming plates into bins, creating a lot of noise -- especially when they were right next to us. Definitely something they should improve. read more

I came to have dinner for a friend's belated birthday celebration. You will only get seated when all of your party is here and you can only sit for 90 minutes. This is an all you can eat place. I got the Original House broth. My stove gas took awhile to boil the soup for some reason as rest of my party had their pot all ready boiled. This happened to me at one other time when I came here and not sure why. Other than waiting longer than expected for my broth soup to boil in order to put ingredients in to cook, everything else was fine. Service was nice. The new ipads will shut you off at an hour for AYCE even though it has a 90min limit. It claims 90 but will lock you out at 60. Our waitress was amazing and said we can still order through her for the remaining minutes but i can't help but wonder how many people just think time is up and lose out? You can order 2 apps and 6 meats every 6 minutes- the apps have a 50% chance of coming to you but the meats are fast. That said some waitress will just dump it on the table and walk away even touching my cup with the raw meat not even looking at me or getting me a new drink. Super rude and unhygenic. Loved our waitress although they work in groups and I would have hated to get the super rude one. Food is great. Love this place for big parties or just the kids but until the ipad glitch is fixed I feel funny telling people to go here when other places are slightly more expensive but you don't get locked out at an hour they give you 90m or even 2 hours. read more

I grew up coming to Shabuya (from when it first opened to now) and this place is still a staple for my family! Meat is cut fresh and the portion sizes for meat were perfect for us. We love Shabuya, but we usually go to the one in Concord as it's conveniently located in a plaza/mall, but that location gets really busy and there's always a wait. This was our second time at this location and it was on a weekend so I decided to add us to the waitlist, and when we got there, there was no wait. It was a pretty busy day. It's spacious with ample refills throughout the day. The lighting a dim with natural sunlight during the days The soup and options always hit here and it's always bustling with full tables and bellies apparently. My son does not each much as a 9 year old but is tall enough for full price so it's not worth it for him, but we take him anyway because we love it so much. The service was good and the staff there seem to be more friendly than the Concord location. If you have a huge appetite, this is such a great place and the food is so comforting. I also appreciate the sauce bar. Since it's an AYCE, most people are in and out and some stay a while to get their money's worth. Either way, I highly recommend this for hot pot and looking to be a glut for the day. This place is an all around hit for my family and I can't wait to come back. read more

The restaurant is a large one with tables around and the veggie bar at the centre of the place Everyone has a sort of heating element for the broth that keeps the broth hot/warm per our liking I don't eat meant so the staff adjusted the spicy miso broth and added water to the mix so I was covered with that. The veggie toppings had a wide variety - soft tofu, fried tofu, tofu fish ball, a big range of veggies like - carrots, onions, bok choy, cabbage etc . The food overall was ok - so even if you are vegan person just tagging along or by yourself you should be able to find something for yourself. What I missed was a crispy element - a couple of appetizers options would have been really great to feel included on the tab menu - catering to all the vegans and giving us a chance for the crispy element as well read more

Also super easy to join the waitlist, just do it through Yelp but make sure you're within distance! The location itself is pretty big with parking all around. The eating experience involves choosing your broth, meats (up to 8 per round!), and appetizers if you're interested. My boyfriend and I always get chicken and gyoza. The lunch deal for $20.99/person is so worth in this economy. Our waiter was super attentive, bringing us napkins and checking in on us frequently. You have a 90 minute limit, so what I usually do is scoop as much broth as I can into the bowl provided to you for eating. This makes the broth come to a boil faster. When your broth gets low you can just add the lukewarm broth back or ask your server to dilute it if it's too salty. Unlimited appetizers come with the special, but I don't think it's worth your stomach space. My group of 3 prioritized the meat and ended up almost finishing 16 plates of beef brisket and 2 plates of beef belly. This was after I picked a bunch of veggies and glass noodles from the sauce and veggie/seafood bar. The facilities, especially the sauce bar and seafood/veggie island, were cleaned frequently which is impressive. After the table next to us, two guys bussed and thoroughly wiped down the table with a wet towel pretty quickly. I think this location is pretty popular even despite all the new hot pot places always popping up in the Bay Area so do come at a good time to expect to not wait 1+ hrs to be seated. read more

The flavors and f the broth were very basic but you can spruce them up with different sauces. My daughter and I ordered the spicy miso but it had a Smokey after taste which I thought was weird. It tasted like they simmered their broth with the bottom of the pot being burnt. My son ordered tonkatsu and that tasted like something from an instant ramen packet. The selection of veggies were meh. Meats were ok. The beef toro was my fave but the pork belly was not fresh and on the brown side instead of pink. We loved the appetizer chicken karrage. You can only order two items per appetizer and 4 meat pick every 5 minutes. Portions are small.Our servers were nice, attentive and fast service. We came there for lunch, fairly busy, open space, loud and good music play list. I will say that the burners take some time to bring your broth to a boil, so avoid putting too many ingredients in the bowl at the same time. Also a heads up that there's a pretty hefty amount of MSG in the broths, something that I noticed once my meal was over and I was incredibly thirsty lol. (Tip: they allow you to mix their broths too, I had spicy miso and tonkotsu because apparently that's a popular combo). Lots of options for making your own dipping sauce as well. Staff are very friendly and efficient. The restaurant was relatively clean for an AYCE. It started with just two of us. We had such a great server, Daniel. He made sure to not only check on us but his whole section as well. We tried to order two orders of the Soy Glazed Chicken Karaage, but the runners only brought us one. When Daniel came back around for our second round of meat, we asked him for three orders since we had only received one the first time. I told him those chicken bites are seriously addictive and incredibly flavorful. As we were getting close to our one-hour mark, we asked if it would be possible to add a third person and extend our time a bit. Daniel said he'd have to check with the host since it wasn't super busy, but new parties were still coming in every 10 minutes or so. I told him not to worry too much if it wasn't possible. He came back and let us know he could extend our time by about another half hour on top of what we had left. We really appreciated him making that happen. Thank you so much, Daniel. After we got the bill, we chatted with him for a bit about customer service. My boyfriend used to work at a hot pot place and mentioned that some of the servers half his age didn't work nearly as hard and were more focused on "the gram" and social media, while genuine hospitality seemed almost nonexistent. Daniel shared that he's ## years old and said it's always about balancing business and fun--but having fun in a respectful and professional way. Huge shout out to Daniel for being so attentive and kind. Oh, the food--LOL. I normally get the Spicy Miso broth, but last time I tried a bit of my friend's Sukiyaki and really liked it, so I decided to go with that this time. The serving staff is excellent and honestly have never had a bad experience with any of them.. My beef is with the "manager" or older lady checking people in the front with glasses. she's super rude and we had several encounters with her.. the last time she tried to charge my son who is well below 50" inches full price.. and when we asked to change the price she argued with us and didn't want to. Then we come back again on a different occasion and she sees us and again automatically assumes he's over 50" so we told her to make sure and check before assuming like last time. Cool all you can eat shabu shabu experience. It's like more chill and personal version of hotpot where you get your own broth and bowl. The server was very friendly and helpful. I liked the self serve topping selection. Some options like octopus were dinner only, but they were so good. Very comfortable and nice place to fill up your stomach. But, I guess for the price you pay $20.99 (lunch) this place is pretty ok, but I wouldn't go crazy over it. Let's just say it wouldn't be my first choice to go to if I'm craving shabu shabu. I tried the spicy miso broth and tonkatsu which didn't have much flavor, if anything it's the dipping sauce you choose to dip your meats/veggies, etc in to give off some type of flavor. Also, even on the highest stove setting--it takes awhile to get a boil going if it can even reach a boil. I do like the buffet style set-up and items have always been stocked when I dined here. It's kept clean and there are solid typical hot pot items to choose from. As for the meats, my highlight was the beef toro and I didn't really care for anything else. They are cut a bit too thin for my liking though as the meat tends to fall apart easily. The sauce choices are limited with ponzu being the main one. The chicken karaage appetizer and gyoza are ok. Overall, like I mentioned above for the price you pay for lunch time it's an ok spot to try despite the flaws, but I wouldn't go out of my way to be put on a waitlist or wait an hour to be seated to eat here. read more
