I was looking for a relaxing massage after an 8.5 hour exam. I got reflexology for 60mins. It was INTENSE! Very painful for me. I emphatically requested for him to not do such strong pressure. He did change the pressure after that. I'm a small built woman and really don't need that much pressure. However! I have to give this experience five stars because, I've spent thousands of dollars on acupuncture and Chinese herbs and a lot of other treatments for insomnia, and after this painful massage, I slept like a log. No waking up during the night. Who knew reflexology was so powerful?!?! The massage therapist, the owner, is clearly very skilled. Unfortunately, the intensity of the massage is too much for me. I got a back spasm the next day that was painful, and I've never had any back problems. I actually don't not have any physical limitations at all, which is probably why I only got a back spasm and nothing else. The techniques are too strong for my body, but they are effective for insomnia. It would be essential to review any physical limitations before the session (this is not asked) and make it very clear with the massage therapist that you may not need as much pressure as most of his clients, and to request some flexibility regarding this. You would have to clearly state to him that the pressure is too much, as your wincing in pain may not be sufficient. Back spasms are not fun. read more

I have been meaning to visit Taiwan Spa since they arrived in Short Pump. I finally scheduled a reflexology appt at the end of a particularly grueling week on my feet. Arrived limping on my miserable nurse feet. An hour later I left completely refreshed, relaxed and most impressive of all, with pain free feet! I had always wished for a more focused foot massage and I'm thrilled to know there's a place I can go for exactly that and even a little more. A brief massage of the neck, back and arms loosens you up and relaxes you, preparing you for the foot work. The room is dark and quiet which sets the tone for a relaxing experience. Every staff member I encountered was helpful and friendly. I can't remember when I had a more memorable massage. I have a new favorite massage destination. If someone you love works on their feet, send them to Taiwan Spa. They'll thank you for it! read more

Just had a couples massage here. Totally awesome. Some places you go seems like you just get a back rub. This place give you a full on massage. Be prepared though, they do not speak English and the pressure is firm (which I like). They do ask what pressure you want. It included a 15 min back massage while soaking my feet which was exactly what I need at 39 weeks pregnant. This place may not have all of the bells and whistles of higher-end spas, but you get a full hour (or whatever time you've paid for) of a very high quality massage. I came in to try them out with another friend, so I just got a foot massage. Come to find out that the 60 min reflexology foot massage was 20% off. They SO know what they are doing. They will go has hard or soft as you need. Give you Jasmine tea even. The last 10 mins. of the appointment she massaged and stretched the shoulders and back. I left there feeling so awesome, relaxed and numb in a good way. I slept almost 10 hours with out any interruptions. I have been telling everyone I run into that they need to go check this place out. One of my favorite things to do to relax while traveling is stop into a salon and get a foot massage, but I haven't come across many salons that offer that service in Richmond. The first thing I noticed is how generous the hours are- they extend past those of most salons in the area. They offer both 30 minute and 60 minute foot massages in addition to other services. BEST use of $30.00 I've spent in a long time. The massage begins in a dark, peaceful room with spa music playing, and feet are placed in a warm bath of water. The attendant asked me about my desired pressure, and proceeded with a thorough and relaxing massage complete with stretches and a hot rag. Will definitely come again. Thanks Taiwan Spa! read more

I have had massages in many different places over the years. I had seen Taiwan Spa on my way to Short Pump mall many times, but never stopped there--until yesterday. In one word--amazing!!! I had the 30 minute foot massage and 30 minute full body massage. WOW!! After suffering from headache, neck and shoulder pain for the past two weeks, it was completely resolved after 60 minutes. I enjoy my massage . Went in for a couple massage to celebrate our anniversary. This was my first time here out of the norm massage places . At first she started with a dry massage wasn't sure where it was going but then later added oil I would prob want to skip the whole few minutes of dry massage though ..One of the better places we've been to .we both enjoy our massages. I hAte deep tissue and this was Like I'd mix of Swedish and deep but wasn't uncomfortable. She gave just the right amount of pressure that it didn't hurt , Wish I would of got the ladies name she was wonderful and I would like to get her on my next go round . Everyone was polite the place is very clean and they have other otptions like if you dont want a full body you can just pop in and get a foot massage which I like that idea because I been getting pedicures just for the massage and it be mediocre at best . Such a little hidden gem! I was recommended by a friend and I'm so glad I listened! It was so nice meeting the owner and the massage was wonderful. I will say, it's not some fancy scmancy, frou-frou kind of place. It's basic in decor & almost ghetto looking but honestly the massage is top notch and they're very friendly every time I've been. I don't care too much about ambiance sometimes and if that's something you feel strongly about, I probably wouldn't suggest this place. I have had probably over 100 massages in the past decade or so a d this was absolutely the BEST by a good margin. This woman worked magic. She walked on my back and used her feet to give firm pressure and also used hot rocks. It was amazing. After living in Hong Kong for a year where these are super popular and incredibly relaxing, we were hopeful this would be the same experience and it didn't disappoint. This is my new find for relaxation! The key here is the actual activity, not the appearance. It's not fancy but the therapists do a great job. Tho walking in, it reminds me forcibly of being in a Taiwan home exactly with the furniture and all. Going back into the space, you start with a warm water soak, then they extensively massage and work your feet and legs, and I mean WORK. It's unlike any other massage at other spas. I left feeling invigorated as well as relaxed. Be warned that its not the usual Swedish massage kind of experience. My guy seemed to really be feeling for areas of problem. And tho it was foot reflexology, I told him about my neck/back as well and he was able to help with that as well. Haven't tried the body work yet but will definitely be back regularly! read more

The place is very clean and soothing, price is more than reasonable, and the messages are superb! My first visit was taking my family for 4 foot massages and 4 full body massages and feedback were all excellent. I've been gone back several for times and have tried different therapists, the experience of each visit was consistently good. Disappointing. I went for a couples massage and my part was a prenatal massage. My husband had a great experience. My masseuse barely touched my back and when she did, she didn't use any lotion. She focused on my calves and feet and even that was more like a rub than a massage. I've gotten many massages before but nothing like this. This place is the best at massages hands down. My husband and I went 2 days in a row. I originally made a appointment for a couples massage for our Anniversary. I wasnt confident doing the booking process, the man (jack) that answers the phone never asked my name or phone number when booking the appointment. I kept reconfirming my request before hanging up. We showed up 15 minutes early and once checked in we were told that they were running behind and it could be an additional 15 minute wait. No big deal since our day wasnt scheduled so tight. Once walked to the back we were escorted to separate rooms, we said WE WANTED A COUPLES MASSAGE, they stated "rooms not together, only side by side" available. My husband isn't the guy that is comfortable doing massages in the first place and to separate us wasnt ideal but we did it and it was amazing. They don't really talk to you or give you any direction. The lady guided us into the room and shut the door. We didn't know if we should have robes, strip down and lay down or what so we had to ask. They don't ask you if you want light pressure or intense so be mindful that you you have to tell them if its uncomfortable but like I said before: THE BEST MASSAGE EVER! The next day my husband wanted to go back and get the 30 min foot massages. He called and made a appointment. This time we showed up right at our appointment time. The man greeted us at the door and said I've called you twice and left a message, a regular customer came in as a walk in and we needed you to delay your arrival. Well the number we called from was our house phone and we were on the way there. Once again another wait but this time it was 30 minutes. We went back and got once again THE BEST FOOT MASSAGES but during the massage I kept thinking this is beyond 30 minutes but i didn't know if the 30 minutes starts when they begin the massages or while they are massaging your back while your feet are soaking OR if they were extending the time due to the wait. Well when we went to pay they charged us for the 1hr massages instead of 30. My husband just paid it because we know you will only leave frustrated. For this reason I'm unsure I'll be back. We spent nearly $250 in 2 days there. We had a wait TWICE for appointments. Miscommunication of our request cost us to pay double on the 2nd visit. They took a regular customer as a walk-in and bumped our appointment back. And nothing extra to show remorse for the mishap was done. This place was awesome! I usually go to Massage Envy, but they couldn't get me in this weekend and I really wanted a good massage after a stressful week. I was able to get a same day appointment here, the price was good, and the massage was even better than Massage Envy! All of my tension completely disappeared. It was a completely different experience here. They hop up on the table and really get all of the knots out. They use plenty of massage oil, hot stones, stretch you out, and then wipe the oil off with a hot towel. They also actually massage you for a full hour and not 50 minuets. It was a great experience.
