I have never dined in here, so I can only judge the food and take out service. Both were decent. This is not my favorite Indian restaurant in Buffalo, but living in the Allentown area, it is probably my favorite so far that is convenient for takeout. (My favorite spot is in the 'burbs) [FOOD - 3.5] I'm judging it on what it is. If you come here with the expectation that the dishes will be equivalent to the authenticity you'd get in India, you'll be disappointed, but for what it is I do enjoy it. I eat quite a bit of Indian food and while it's not SUPER authentic here, I do think they do a good job of incorporating a lot of traditional flavors while not making the dishes too 'Americanized' compared to a lot of the Indian options in the area. My boyfriend and I both enjoy a decent amount of spice and felt that their scale was a little lacking for an Indian restaurant (we ordered hot and I expected hotter). Overall though, I was satisfied with my meal. Good spot to go to or order from If you are in the area or live nearby and craving some Indian food. [SERVICE - 3] It took quite a while to get our food. When we called in and placed our order we were told a time frame. We got there at the tail end of that time frame given and still had to wait about 10 minutes. Their flavors are spot on, without being overpowering or too watered down to suit American taste buds. During our annual trip to Niagara (sigh!), we decided to play it safe and based on Yelp reviews took a detour and landed here. Upon a long wait, despite available tables we were seated in. After 20 minutes without water or menus, my wife got restless and requested a glass of water. Another 10 minutes and no one bothered taking our order. Finally, I stopped someone dashing by our table and said we're ready to order, based on takeout menu I grabbed at their counter! Food: The Taj Grill sizzler was a major disappointment. The chicken was undercooked and shrimp were too salty. The Aloo tikki though was fabulous. The salted lassis were amazing too. For the main course we ordered Butter Chicken, Veg Biryaani, Panner Tikka and butter naans. Nothing special! Quite average. I caught a glimpse of sardarji in kitchen and got mighty excited, all for nothing. Will I return next year? Doubtful. read more

Food: OK but nothing special Service: perfunctory COVID-19 protocols: non-existent; the guy at the entrance wore his mask as a chin strap and the only other employee I saw didn't have a mask. This is my second favorite Indian food place in buffalo. I love the spicy bean curry and the beef curry the most!! The butter chicken is too sweet for me. But I love the Chai tea! The whole restaurant is very clean and quite. I've been here twice and I'll definitely bring more of my friends to visit again! This is probably the best Indian place in North Buffalo. The flavors are incredibly fresh, the food comes out piping hot, and they have a reasonable buffet. I like really crazy things like Lassi with Vodka inside it -- these guys will do it. Always accommodating and consistent. My favorite dish to order is vegetarian, and if you're strict about it, the cheese used has no animal enzymes - its Bhartha Paneer, a pureed sort of eggplant dish with a type of goat cheese. It's very filling and all of the spices keep you warm. Also, you can make their "Taj Sampler" meatless. Probably the best food on Delaware. Give it a shot. read more

Great service, our waiter was very knowledgeable of their menu and even provided recommendations. We ordered the chicken makhani, chicken Kashmiri, chicken coconut dish(don't remember the name), and chicken rogan josh. All were delicious. I also ordered half a carafe of wine, and my bf ordered the Indian Taj Mahal beer, which was the perfect addition to our food. I definitely recommend getting the garlic naan! I had dinner here one weeknight and it was excellent. The restaurant itself was bright and very spacious. We got a mango lassi and a red wine (Malbec I think) and both were great. We ordered: Paneer pakora Chicken tikka masala Goat curry Naan Gulab jamun Everything was so flavorful and delicious. I think we ordered a Mild or Medium spice and it wasn't overwhelming at all. I was also worried about the potions but it ended up being the perfect size and we even had leftovers for later. I wish I could remember who our waiter was because he was excellent. Worst place ever. Employees kept on staring us since we enter to the cuisine which was kind of akward to us. They charged us extra 12 bucks and when we asked for what they charged us extra they told us its for gratitude which was not even mentioned in the bill. They tried to loot money with customers. Great experience and I only had takeout. I walked in and started looking at the menu. I usually try to take a wild guess of what I might like since I've only had Indian food a couple times in my life. As soon as the waiter was done helping his customer he asked if I was doing takeout and if I had any questions. I simply told him that I wanted a chicken dish that was spicy. A regular customer waiting on her take out chimed in and told me her favorite, and the waiter playfully said don't listen to her she gets the same thing every time. Then he proceeded to help me by asking me what flavors I like or dislike to find what he would recommend for me. I got the Chicken Makhani if my memory serves me correct. Then the waiter asked if I wanted a glass of water while I waited for my take out. So overall I would give both the customer service and the food five stars. Hope this is helpful. read more

Taj Grill has one of the most impressive lunch and dinner buffets in the entire Buffalo area. It is dynamic, chock full of choices and wonderful to go to on a day when you cannot decide on just one thing to devour. The food is ALWAYS fresh. Always. The staff is helpful, courteous and never neglectful. There is a great selection of vegetarian dishes and I believe at least two main dishes that are straight vegan. If you ask, they will let you know every ingredient (which I witnessed first hand on one occasion). Pavan is, hands down, my favorite person at Taj. If you get Pavan as a server you will remember him - his personality is hard to forget. The owner, who I have only met once, is incredibly nice. He even taught me how to eat a certain dish the way it was intended, with coconut chutney on top. Everyone else is equally as amazing. If you do decide not to have the buffet, but to dine in, you will be paying around $10-13 a dish. The quality, however, is worth it. I suggest the sag paneer with eggplant; not on the menu, but I assure you they will make it! read more

So so delicious. I finally went to try the lunch buffet and it was everything I dreamed of and more. I didn't start eating Indian food until I was in my 20s so I still am learning more about the different types of food Taj Grill has to offer. I was really excited to try the lunch buffet because I wanted to step out of my ordering comfort zone. Turns out that everything is delicious but I still love butter chicken the best! One delightful surprise was the strawberry coconut mousse that was available for dessert. It had an incredible flavor and I could taste a hint of pistachio as well. The price of the buffet for lunch was only about $10 so it is well worth it to try it out! Even if you're not into Indian food or afraid to try it, I can bet you'll find something you love! Tasty! I kept going mmmm...mmm...mmmmmmm. :) I think I'm in love with Indian food. All the spices. All the different types of curries and meat/vegetarian options. The drinks. My oh my! I think what's so great about Taj Grill is their selection. There is so much to choose from they have something for everyone. If you've never had Indian food before, I think this is a good place to start. The Medium spicy is not spicy at all, so it's perfect if you can't stand spice. They also have hot, and extra hot, and if you're not sure, you can always get spice on the side. I strongly recommend trying one of the Indian drinks. They have a yogurt-esque drink called Lassi, which comes in different flavors like Strawberry, Fig, and even Pineapple! If yogurt drinks aren't your thing, their chai tea is really good too. :) It's not served with sugar, but that's perfect because you can gauge how much sugar you want to add. So good!!! For the appetizer, my partner and I ordered Samosas, which are always a favorite with us. The mint chutney was suuuuuper green. It looked kryptonic. I wasn't a fan, but I don't really care for mint. The Tamarind chutney though, oh my gosh, it was amazing. It tasted like jelly, but even better than jelly. I seriously wanted to take it home and put it on a peanut butter sandwich, haha, it was so tasty. Our waitress said it has apple in it too, which maybe that's why it reminded me of jelly. But seriously, I was addicted, and I started to eat the chutney with a spoon by itself, haha! For the entree I ordered the Fish Xacutti ("sha-ku-tee") and my partner ordered the Baingan Bhartha (eggplant). I never had Xacutti before, but oh my gosh I loved it. I'm also a big fan of Baingan Bhartha, and Taj's wasn't bad. We ordered medium, so like I said earlier, it was kind of lacking in the spice department, so maybe I'll try hot next time. It was hard to decide which I liked more, but the Fish Xacutti probably won me over. I kept going mmm......mmmmm..mmmmmmmm while I was eating. I kind of got self-conscious about it, and was wondering if I was being obnoxious to the other customers, but seriously! I couldn't help it! We also had the garlic naan, and it was alright. I think it could have been more garlicky. I liked that it had cilantro in it though. That was a nice touch. All in all the food was really good. Some of it was mediocre, some of it was delicious. :) However, the service was extraordinary. I'm a stickler when it comes to good service, but let me tell you, Taj's service was stellar! I seriously felt like a sultan. How they came in ever 2 minutes to fill my water glass, I felt so loved. They were so busy, but they always found time to help out our table. Taking dirty dishes away and putting sparkling clean dishes in their place. It was amazing. Haha, I didn't have to do dishes so I didn't care! :D The servers were super funny and friendly too. I think there wasn't a single moment our server didn't have a smile on her face. She was soooo nice and good-spirited. The other waiters were super nice too. 5 stars on service. All in all, I'm definitely coming back in the future. I think the food isn't as good as India Gate, but I like the setting more. It feels so much more open and roomier, and the service is so good. There seems to be more choice selection also. I definitely recommend Taj, so try it out. I kind of want to take my partner's mom here. She's never had Indian food before, so this will be a good test. :) As a side note...about 75% of the customers here were either Indian or some sort of Muslim descent. I think that's a good gauge of how good of an Indian restaurant it is. :) They also do banquets apparently. There was a family of 20+ people in the side room. I really loved the food at Taj Grill! I decided to try it out because it got the Don Q. seal of approval and there was a Groupon. It definitely didn't disappoint.. The Naan was amazing and one of the highlights of the meal. We had regular, garlic, and chili varieties and it was incredibly flavorful and fresh. The main entrees were also great. I got the chicken makhani, which was really rich and delicious. My stomach was feeling off so I didn't want it very spicy. The waiter suggested that I order it with medium spice so I went with his recommendation. The dish was very flavorful but not spicy at all. Everyone else was happy with their dishes too. My husband got the goat curry, and our friends got lamb and fish dishes. The food was well seasoned and there were some items on the menu we hadn't seen at other Indian restaurants so we got the chance to try some new things. My friends' only critique was that the dishes they ordered X-tra hot were not spicy enough. The waiter was hilarious and very helpful. I am definitely going back and I will update my review after trying it out a few times. My suggestion to other diners is to be very specific about your spice preference. read more

First off, this Indian buffet offers a variety of dishes from northern (chicken malai, butter chicken, tandoori) and southern India (dosas, idly). Two of my favorite dishes in general are palak paneer and a spicy eggplant type curry. TG had a dish that was basically palak paneer WITH the addition of eggplant! Needless to say, I was pleasantly surprised. I've been to a handful of Indian buffets and sometimes the food can sit for a while - not the case at TG. One item I use to gauge turnover at these joints is the pakora. Every buffet I've been to (Boston, DFW, Buffalo) has cold pakora with the exception of TG and Delhi Chaat. It's the small things that make the big difference. The price for the weekend lunch buffet was around $9 and comes with naan. In addition, hot chai tea is offered on the buffet. And lastly, the butter chicken is amazing. I would honestly drink the sauce if it had no detrimental effects on the body. Highly recommended! read more

I had to update my review after coming back for the buffet everyone raves about. Ambiance: As far as ambiance, this is a very nice space. See my previous review for my thoughts on the natural light, decor, etc. Cleanliness was excellent and there wasn't a single thing out on the buffet that looked old, despite it being 2pm when we came in (buffet closes at 2:30). Service: Just okay on this trip. Our waters were empty a little longer than I'm used to (Indian buffets in my experience have ridiculously good customer service) and our waitress could be described as, well, sullen comes to mind. She was just sort of there, going through the motions. The gentleman who hosts, and I believe is (one of) the owner(s) is of course always a pleasure to deal with and came by our table several times. Spice level: As is typical with Indian buffets in Buffalo, most of the food was on the mild-medium to the mild side, but not to the level of blandness of my old favorite India Gate. After 9+ years of I.G. I tried Star of India, which tends to have a bit more heat and complexity than most buffets tailored to non-Indian customers, and I haven't been back to I.G. since (though I laud their customer service and cleanliness & recommend them as a "starter" if people have never had Indian or are anti-spice). Dishes: I was very pleased with the wide variety of options, particularly the amount of appetizers and vegetarian options. The items ranged from decent (butter chicken that was too sweet for my taste, but still tasty) to very good (beef madrasi in an excellently spiced creamy sauce; beef was flavorful but a bit too tough). The lentil balls in the korfa detracted from the dish, even though they are supposed to be the star - this sauce had by far the most complex flavors of any of the dishes I sampled, with a perfect amount of medium heat, but the lentil balls were bland and mushy. The stewed eggplant dish was excellent and probably my all around favorite as I couldn't say anything negative about its flavor profile, texture or heat level. Overall: Taj has not supplanted my reigning champion. Half of their items were on par with my favorite Indian buffet, Star of India (a few better, a few not as good) but the naan and chai are hands down twice as good at Star. The chai at Taj was meh, with little flavor other than steamed milk and the naan was the chewy, bland, fluffy variety similar to what they sell at a large grocery store like Wegmans. Good naan to soak up all those delicious sauces with is just a must for an Indian buffet to really excel in my book. Taj will definitely be added to the rotation for a change of pace and to sample dishes not served at the other, smaller buffet and I give them kudos for keeping such a nice space. read more

This is my go to place for Indian food in Buffalo Went on a Fri Night at 8pm and there was absolutely no wait. Been here a couple times before and always had a great experience with service, getting a table and the food. The exterior is a little unassuming it's in a strip mall right next to fleet feet and in the same parking lot as Tim Hortons and OTB. But the interior is pretty nice(simple), cloth napkins, clean, and a good size. Here are some of my Favorites ( the menu is pretty large with a large vegetarian selection): Vegetable Samosa, Jeera Alu( the most flavorful potato ever), Garlic Naan, also they have a homemade hot sauce that was pretty delicious too and hot. My favorite Indian buffet! I've only been here for the buffet because the price just cannot be beat. There's a lunch buffet every day for less than $10 and dinner buffet on Tuesdays for around $15. I love everything about this place. The waiters are always so friendly and the naan always comes out fresh and hot with the right balance of crispiness and chewiness. My favorite dish is the buttered chicken- - it's definitely one of those dishes you just keep eating until you absolutely despise yourself. Also a lot of the dishes aren't spicy (which I like) but it doesn't compromise the flavor at all which is very rare to find at Americanized Indian restaurants. BAD. I was extremely excited for Taj Grill. I live in California and am having my wedding in Buffalo. We decided to food taste there and hire them for our wedding. First, he overcharged us for food tasting. Second, his food is a fusion and not traditional Indian food. Many of his options lack the authentic touch of Indian food. Third, I thought it would be diverse for our wedding so I decided to hire him even though everyone was against it. I wanted to give Sabi, the owner, a chance. NEVER EVER go with him. Once we told him we would like to hire him he never got back to us. We were finalizing our food menu and I called him many times, called the restaurant (he never happened to be there time, ironic), and texted him multiple times. No response!!! UNPROFESSIONAL and RUDE-- are the two words that come to mind along with Many others. I have many friends and family that are getting married and I was going to recommend him but FORGET IT. I'm upset and disappointed that someone could be so unprofessional and lack the care or respect for a loyal customer. So, if you want non-traditional Indian food, go ahead and head over there, but if you're planning a wedding or any other event and want to hire him or looking for authentic Indian food then DON'T. read more

Not great, but not bad either. A (huge) group of us dined here last night for an "International Supper Club" of sorts. The waiter was not frazzled by the number in our party... or by having to give us separate checks. He remained friendly and helpful throughout the evening.... and water was refilled frequently without anyone having to ask (yeah... that stuff matters). The menu is quite complete with dozens of appetizers and special Indian breads..... and page after page of entrees. Sure there were the usuals, but also some interesting additions including dishes made with lobster, lamb, and goat. Both Northern and Southern Indian dishes are featured. And the restaurant is very, very clean. My son and I shared an order of vegetable samosas which were DELICIOUS. The pea and potato filling was perfectly spiced and the pastry was perfectly crisp without being too greasy. The accompanying chutneys (one sweet with hints of cinnamon and the other spicy) were freshly made and wonderful. For our entrees we shared an order of Chicken Tikka Masala (boneless chicken cooked in house special masala with sliced onions, bell peppers, ginger, and tomatoes) and Gobi Alu (cauliflower and potatoes cooked in fresh herbs and spices). The former was ordered "medium" spicy and the later "hot", but I think the chef mixed up the spice levels because the chicken was spicier than the cauliflower dish, but honestly both were a bit on the mild side. The veggies in both dishes had a nice, fresh crunch, but we found the sauces to be lacking in depth. Both had more of a canned tomato paste flavor, rather than that of a long simmered tomato base. And the Tikka Masala was seriously missing the hint of cream that gives the entire dish it's signature velvety deliciousness. Unlimited basmati rice accompanied the entrees, but we were slightly disappointed by the addition of frozen peas and carrots to the plate. A clove or two...or even some grated lemon zest would be appreciated... but leave out the "Green Giant". My best suggestion would be to possibly shorten the menu (if necessary) to make sure everything tastes fresh and authentic. read more

As a general rule of thumb I stay as far away from buffets as I can - they're not really my thing. So when my friend suggested we check out the lunch buffet at Taj Grill I was quite reluctant. I also had my mind set in enjoying the beautiful day by having lunch outside on a patio somewhere- that was two strikes my closed mind had going in. However, I decided to suck it up and try anyway. I'm glad that I did because the lunch was phenomenal. The glass front makes the restaurant nice and bright inside. The tables are spaced far enough apart that you don't feel cramped. The restaurant was clean and I had no reservations about the buffet. All dishes were clearly labeled so there was no guesswork in what you were eating. The food itself was delicious. I'm glad I had the opportunity to try a variety of different dishes to help narrow in what I like, but to be honest there wasn't anything I tried that I didn't like. Also deserving special note: the wait staff was friendly and attentive. The prices were fair and comparable (at least the lunch buffet, never actually looked at a menu). This is one my favorite Indian restaurants around the Buffalo area and eat here probably once or twice a week for their lunch special. The service and staff are very friendly and always nice to make little small talk with. It's hard for me to compare quality as I come from NYC where Indian food is abundant and probably some of the best I've ever tasted. But this place has been one of the better places out of the ones I've tried in Buffalo. The decor is very modern and tidy, which can be either a good or bad thing depending on your preference. Not that I mind the traditional atmosphere, but I thought this was pleasant difference. The food itself is pretty good. I usually get the extra spicy chicken vindaloo or tikka, but I have to say, I'm more of a fan of the vindaloo. The portions are very generous and will keep you full for a considerable amount of time.
