My daughter and her friends spotted this place on google maps-we love Indian cuisine. This is a photo of how the Butter Curry Chicken was served which is cool, it came with a side of rice. My only feed back is for such a small portion, maybe 7-9 piece of chicken, and no other sides at the tone of $19.90, the quality for this price is not there. Our server was very kind and friendly. We ordered a few appetizers, two meals and some Masala Fries for the kids. The appetizers were all very good and we ordered more roti. The meals were considerably small but did come with a ton of rice. I wasn't a fan of the coconut vindaloo. While the flavor was good, I could tell that the vegetables were the bagged dozen veggies. The masala fries never came for the kids but they enjoyed the rice and roti. When we mentioned it to our server he put had the kitchen make it and didn't charge us; good thing because they were not good. Frozen as well and very lightly dusted with masala spice. Overall, dinner was good but it could have been better. I would love to stop by for the lunch buffet to try some other options. I was debating on the Dal Saag, which in retrospect, I probably would have enjoyed a lot more. I love Indian food for all the vegan options but some of the dishes are saturated with oil and offer little protein for nutritional value. I recently went here with my beloved and my family. They offer up veg and non-veg cuisine from India. I spent over three years in India over eight Winters and nine trips. I was delighted to see that the menu featured different cuisine from various parts of India including Gujarat, Punjab, Delhi, Rajasthan, West Bengal, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Goa, Bangladesh, and Maharashtra. The staff here is diverse and from various parts of India along with neighboring parts of SE Asia near India. Me and my beloved ordered family style since we are both vegan. There are clearly marked vegan items on the menu. We went with coconut rice, roasted papadum, aloo gobi masala, & chana masala. Everything was quite alright. Nice friendly service. Nice Indian restaurant at the mall! We've been to the lunch buffet three times over the last few months. It has a very nice selection of about 8 main dishes, with at least four chicken options of various sauces as well as the ever present tandori chicken! I apologize for not being able to pronounce nor spell the selections other than the butter chicken, tandoori and kheer rice putting dessert which is included in the buffet, but I enjoyed every one of them! The bread on the buffet was a fried dough as opposed to naan, but it too was ludicrously soft and wonderful. We also had masala chai tea, with its wonderful aromas of cardamon and other spices. Attached is a notice on each table identifying the multitude of diversity of their staff and the dozen styles of cooking available for the customers. For this plain white bread customer, it was a nice mini education on the truly diverse flavors out there. Just as almost every state in the southeastern US may have its own definition of the word barbecue sauce, it absolutely makes sense for a southeast Asian subcontinent to have flavors in every region. (I hope that statement does not offend anybody. I mean it as a compliment to the restaurant in offering the dozens of styles available to them beyond the menu and a little self-deprecating humor pointing out my ignorance). read more

It's unfortunate I was the only one in there eating and people choose to go to moes next door is crazy to me!! I ordered the veg vindaloo and garlic naan. The garlic naan was absolutely amazing. Now coming on to the vindaloo curry which is typically a very spicy curry was actually very sweet and tomato tasting. It almost felt like someone used tomatoe puree and forgot to add spices. I have had vindaloo at other places and the curry is a flavor bomb once you taste it. This was just tomatoe paste and vegetables. Didn't get much flavor. The restaurant itself is beautiful and has great service. I also want to say I do wish they had their dosa menu open for dinner as well. I will still go again and try another dish and see if it hits the spot. Will definitely go back to try their dosa someday too. read more

Went on a Saturday and decided on the buffet. Had good amount of vegan and meat options. Needed to remind server after cooks and waiter checked buffet to replace ice under rice pudding as it was just sitting in water so he replaced the dessert but left water. Family friendly with bench seating against both walks and 4 tables in middle. Staff serve iced water and clear your table. Not that busy after 2pm. read more

I went to the lunch buffet on a Tuesday at 1:30pm because it seemed like a good deal at $12.99/pp. I was excited to try more than my standard chicken tikki masala order, and I enjoyed it. Unfortunately most of the rice and the big chicken pieces were almost cold. Perhaps Tuesday is not a big day and they don't want to be wasteful, but it wasn't a top notch experience. I also didn't like the sauce on the chicken tikki, as it was overly sweet. Perhaps ordering full price menu items you'd get a better experience but for the lunch buffet it's just okay, and the price is fairly low that I might try again. read more

Usually you can choose whether you want naan or rice, you can't do that here, if you want naan it's $3.50 extra so for a bowl of rice, lentils, and naan its almost $20.00 I mean.. as good as everything else was I have a hard time with that. I really can't stop raving about Taj: Modern Indian Cuisine at The Avenues in Viera. They are so hospitable and so passionate about serving good Indian food to their community. Their positive nature is contagious, and the food speaks for itself! VEGETABLE SAMOSA: crispy potato and chickpea samosa with mint and tamarind chutneys. My goodness, crunch on the bite and soft and pillowing filling on the inside! TANDOORI CHICKEN WINGS: marinated in yogurt, spices and cooked in a clay oven. I was instant fan of dry rub and spices! LOADED MASALA FRIES: masala seasoned fries smothered in a butter curry sauce, topped with onions, green peppers, tomatoes, cilantro and creamy raita. Loaded fries like you've never had them before, the masala seasoning and creamy raita brings this to a whole new level. ONION PAKODA: India's twist on the blooming onion! Not a drop of excess oil from frying and paired so good with the included mint and tamarind chutneys. TIKKA TACOS: that's right, Indian style street tacos! Absolutely loved these! Such a fun take on street tacos, and the TIKKA chicken paired perfectly with the typical minced red onion and cilantro of street tacos. So I have been wanting to try the food here since it opened recently. Today is election day so I thought I would get some take out for lunch. I called and spoke to the friendly lady and made an order which included chicken tikka masala (medium spice) and garlic naan. She told me that my order would be ready in 20 minutes. I picked up my order and brought it directly home. The chicken tikka masala itself was perfectly medium spicy, creamy, and had a generous amount of chicken. The sauce itself could have used a little more tomato and less cream. The chicken also could have been stewed in the sauce longer to make it a bit more tender. Otherwise it was very tasty. The basmati was of a fine quality and cooked very well. The naan was tasty but a bit disappointing. It was on the thicker side and didn't have any of the char usually associated with Naan cooked in the tandoor. I enjoyed my meal and I would like to give them another try soon. read more

Today, I am visiting Taj: Modern Indian Cuisine in Melbourne (Viera), FL. While I do love a good curry, they seem to be few and far between in this neck of the country. Jim is my waiter today and he is not Indian (not an issue, more of a surprise). He has been here for some time and his knowledge of the menu shines through. Jim is professional, congenial and spot-on. Everything in Viera is average. It's all chains and assembly line food, nothing original or edgy. This is a microcosm of the bigger problem of dining out in this country. You have people raving about First Watch, meanwhile, there are 50 breakfast/brunch spots better. Taj: Modern Indian Cuisine falls into this category. It is terrible. I put in an order for the Chettinad Lamb, Mango Lassi and some Paneer Tikka. I feel like the majority of Americans look at Indian as one type of food. It is not. Indian cuisine is as diverse as French, Italian, or American. It all depends on the region and what is at hand. Chettinad curry comes from the Southernmost state of India, Tamil Nadu. The Chettinad region is known for its spicy cuisine. The curry was spicy but not very well balanced as the spice almost overpowered the dish. What it didn't do was mask the flavor of the lamb. This is not a good thing as the lamb tasted like it was about a day past its prime. The accompanying beverage, Mango Lassi, is a yogurt drink made with mangoes. Hailing from the Northern Punjab region of the Indian sub-continent, this take on the classic summer quencher reminded me of Snapple, which is something I do not look for in a supposed freshly made libation. This brings me to the last dish for review (thankfully), the Paneer Tikka. Paneer is a grill-able cheese whose origins are debatable with India, Portugal and Afghanistan claiming credit. Tikka goes back to 1700 BC and is credited to the Sumerians. You can have Tikka with meat or with vegetarian options such as Paneer. Regardless, the protein is marinated in yogurt laden with spices and then skewered for cooking in a tandoor (clay oven). I found the cheese to be dry and the side of Naan to be horrendous. The only saving grace, the only reason this is not a Swill Alert was the sauce; it was complex, flavorful and the only palatable item to skitter across my taste buds today. Whoever the purveyor is of this joint must be importing leftovers from prisons in BFE India, as all of the ingredients are about the same quality and institutional grade. Went last night for the first time with my son. We loved the decor and ambience. Our waiter (forgot to get his name), was so nice and very attentive. The food was amazing! I judge an Indian restaurant by their Mutter Paneer and there's was the best since moving to Florida. Sorry...forgot to take pictures. There were amazing spices and a very creamy sauce. The garlic naan was fluffy, tender and so flavorful with the ghee and big chunks of garlic. My son had a chicken dish. Sorry forgot the name, but it was one of the spicy dishes. We both loved the smoky flavor, he loved the loads of chicken and the spice didn't disappoint. He was sweating! My only comment is that some man came up and started asking random questions. I ordered a Father's Day meal from Taj Modern Indian Cuisine in Vieira consisting of masala dosas (stuffed South Indian style crepes), samosas, and sambar (vegetable stew). The food is delicious and well prepared, and the dosas are huge! I missed eating dosas from Indian restaurants in Brevard County, and I thought that today would be an appropriate day to have them with my father. I extend my warm compliments to the chef who certainly is not an amateur when it comes to preparing these specialized dishes that do not always come out the way one wishes. Best Indian place I've found in the Brevard county area. The vindaloo is superb and quite hot, with tender lamb. My wife swears by the balti eggplant and their garlic naan is very good. It's so great to find a place that knows how to use salt and fat properly, and the service was attentive. Wish they had goat! Very confident they'd do it well! The mango lassi was a thick yogurt based drink that was good, just not to my taste as the yogurt was a little overwhelming for me. I got the lamb tiki masala, and something was just off. Missing depth of flavor, little or no spice, it's seemed like the lamb might have been precooked in advance. The basmati rice needed some salt.
